Outline of Activities (First term of the 2015 school year)

E-3

The Study and Exchange Program in Japan is aimed at short-term international students (exchange students for one year, Japanese studies students, and Teacher training students) at Shizuoka University. Registration is voluntary, and participants will receive 2 credits for one year.Let us have a look at some of last year's activities. 1) As an introduction to the Study and Exchange Program in Japan, we held a Japanese language placement test, as well as orientations for exchange students, for taking classes in Japanese, and for living in Japan. 2) Specially Appointed Professor Darius C. Greenidge, from the Office for the Promotion of Global Education Programs, gave two lectures on Japanese Culture in both English and Japanese, with their topics being "Japanese Movies and Music" and "The World of the Tale of the Heike". 3) International students introduced their own countries' cultures during pre-study abroad orientation and study abroad information sessions at Shizuoka University's International Study Abroad Fair and other events. 4) As a part of the international relations workshop, students visited elementary schools and introduced their own country's culture while interacting with local children by taking part in Zen meditation, old Japanese games, and making mochi. This workshop includes other fun activities, and it is extremely popular among the international students. 5) After finishing all of their classes but before they return home, all of the international students thought about the significance and value of studying abroad in Japan, and put together a one-page (A4) report to complete the Study and Exchange Program in Japan. 6) Then, they all got together and presented their experiences and what they learned in Japan at the Study Abroad Congress. Through this one-year program, students are able to make the most of an important period in their lives. We hope that everyone will be sure to take part.

The Asia Bridge Program (ABP) is a cross-departmental program where Japanese students and international students can study together. Starting in October 2015, undergraduate students in all faculties will be able to take the ABP minor. Conditions for declaring the minor are that students have matriculated after April 2015, and that they have English ability equivalent to a TOEIC score of 550 points at the time of declaring. In this program, students will prepare themselves for being active internationally while studying ABP subjects in English alongside international students. Nearly all of the 15 credits needed for this minor are included in the regular credits needed for graduation. We are currently accepting declarations for this minor. For details, please contact the Office for the Promotion of Global Education Programs ([email protected]).
