Investment Review
The IHS international energy business was founded over 50 years ago making it the oldest and largest business of its kind in the world. Our commitment to international energy has never been stronger and in 2010 we increased our budget in this area by 35%. By investing in and improving our people, technology and processes we can deliver the highest quality, most reliable and useful information to you.
Ultimately, our goal is to help you make the most accurate and informed business decisions you can possibly make.
The pillars of our investment are:• Strengthened technical capabilities• Increased regional presence• Increased data acquisition • Implementation of quality goals and metrics
Strengthened technical capabilitiesA substantial portion of the investment in international energy is aimed at high-grading our technical capabilities with the objective of improving the depth and breadth of our global coverage of E&P activities.
Over the last 18 months we have added 34 new colleagues and we plan to add as many or more colleagues in the next 18 months. These resources will enable us to strengthen our regional teams, for example:
Far East Region transformation:• More than doubled the size of the team, making it the
largest in the history of IHS, IEDS or Petroconsultants• Appointed a new regional director• Increased local knowledge in China, Indonesia
and Malaysia• Strengthened technical capabilities with new tools
and resources
Furthermore we can now improve the quality of our currentproduct suite and offer new products such as:• Regional Unconventional Resources Studies • License Round Monitor• Farm-in/Farm-out opportunities• Regional E&P strategy maps• Prospects Module
Increased data acquisitionAcquiring and applying our quality processes to the data you need every day is the most important thing we do at IHS. With this in mind we have increased our International data acquisition budget by 25% which has allowed us to source a significant amount of high value information from government agencies and through our network of more than 70 in-country representatives. Recent acquisitions include:• Iraq well dataset• Russian datasets• Indonesian datasets

Quality Projects
Our customer surveys revealed that information quality is the single most important asset IHS delivers and we’ve listened. In addition to our Quality Goals launched in September 2009, we have also continued to make substantial improvements to our information through numerous Quality Projects conducted throughout the year. Some of these key projects completed this quarter are included below by module:

Fields• Field Costs and Field Development Remarks –
Consistency and Completeness:Integration of field costs data and development remarks from more than 1,000 Global Projects from the IHS Herolds database resulted in the addition/update of approximately 300 field cost attributes and numerous field development remarks
• Madagascar Spatial Review – Correctness:Following the acquisition of a new map, a detailed spatial review of all the contracts in Madagascar was carried out resulting in the update of 70 blocks
• Ireland and Trinidad and Tobago – Currency:To ensure the most up to date information is available, 1,064 blocks were entered within 5 days of public announcement of the 2011 Atlantic Margin Licensing Round in Ireland and 9 blocks were entered within 2 days of the announcement of the Trinidad and Tobago 2010 Deepwater Bid Round

Midstream• Gas Pipelines – Completeness:
More than 2,000 km of gas pipelines have been entered in eastern Ukraine, resulting in a marked improvement of our coverage of the gas distribution network
• Storage Facilities – Completeness: We have improved our coverage of Storage facilities with the addition of approximately 200 including refined products storage facilities in Bangladesh and liquefied petroleum gas in Japan

• Netherlands Production History – Completeness:Starting in 2009, the entire production history for offshore Netherlands area has been revised in order to de-aggregate all combined production volumes and re-allocate the production to individual fields. Analogue fields historical production performance and decline curve analysis have been used to interpolate annual production profile trend. A total of 21 groups of fields (90 fields in total) have had their production history de-aggregated. As a result, 1,560 new production volumes have been entered in the database. The offshore area is 100% complete, with all producing fields having their entire production history. The graphic below shows the total number of production volumes added as part of the project
