Nestled on the flank of Hualālai volcano, in ancient times it was considered a premier place to live due to the excellent weather and calm waters. Hawaiian kings made their homes here, and in more recent times, the tiny fishing village developed into a small seaport and tourism hub famous for coastal and marine tourism (e.g., humpback whales, manta rays, spinner dolphins, coral reefs), coffee cultivation, sunsets, and beaches. With very little rain and over 300 days of sunshine a year, Kailua-Kona is also home to the Hawaiian International Billfish Tournament and the Ironman Triathlon World Championship. We invite researchers, educators, government and industry practitioners, students, and representatives of other organizations to submit research papers and/or posters for the Anniversary CMT 2015 under the general theme of "Learning from the Past, Looking to the Future. " CONGRESS TOPICS Papers or posters may be presented on a range of topics focusing on coastal and marine tourism including, but not limited to, the following: Coastal Resorts Coastal Trails and Beaches Cruise Industry Education and Interpretation Governance/Policies/Stewardship Hawaiian and Pacific Islanders History and Heritage Impacts on Fisheries and Coral Reefs Marine Ecotourism Marine Protected Areas Marine Water Sports Marine Wildlife Planning and Development Scuba Diving/Snorkeling Seafood Tourism Small Islands Social and Environmental Impacts Surfing Sustainability and Certification Yachting/Boating and Marinas For detailed paper and poster requirements, please visit the CMT 2015 website. PROGRAM AND TECHNICAL VISITS In addition to regular sessions, a special session will be held on the topic of Climate Change and Hazard Resilience in Coastal Tourism. Participants may also suggest additional special session topics to the CMT 2015 scientific committee. The program will allow ample time for professional networking, and participants may choose from a variety of exciting technical visits and sightseeing tours, including, but not limited to: • touring Kealakekua Bay by boat to see the site where Captain Cook landed in Hawai ʻ i; • participating in the world-famous Manta ray night dive; • watching humpback whales return to Hawaiian waters to breed and give birth to new calves; • visiting the sacred Hawaiian site of Pu ʻ uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park; • hiking in Hawai ʻ i Volcanoes National Park; • touring coffee plantations to sample Kona coffee on-site.
