INTEGRATION PAPER ON ACADEMIC WRITING

“TRANSFORMATION 101”By: Noel S. Roxas

Introduction

This paper aims to present to the Church Council and to the Board of trustees of UCCP- Amadeo the basic principles, goals, characteristics, definition and the biblical parables of “TRANFORMATION” The paper is divided into three parts. The first part deals with the Biblical parables as part of the opening devotion and the second part discusses about the definition, principles, goals and characteristics of transformation and the third part includes the Challenges and

Reflection. This is a one day sharing and discussion regarding the said topic.

I was motivated to write this paper because of my desire to present to the Church Council and to the Board of Trustees that Transformation could be the best tool for the people, church, and even to the community in recognizing that God is the source of change and development and also to encourage them to become the agent and catalyst of change for the Church and Community where the Church belongs.

FIRST PART: DEVOTION TIMETHE BIBLICAL PARABLES OF TRANSFORMATION

The Transforming Power of the Prodigal’s Confession Luke 15:21The Confession of the prodigal son brought to him a total transformation to his life and because of that, He experienced four great things to his life.1. He received forgiveness ( Made everything right and organized)2. He experienced total restoration ( Not a servant, But a son, much

beloved and an heir)3. New opportunity came to his life ( To be somebody and live for

the best)4. Great rejoicing was happen to his life and even to the life of his

father and to the community.Transformation begins with our choice/ s. this is not coming from other people / individual. This is not inherited from our ancestors. We are the one need to decide whether we are willing to change, develop, and transform. Just like the Prodigal son’s did. He decided for himself, no one dictated him to confessed and admitted that he did wrong to his father and even to God in heaven. Let us now see

our selves, if we really want changes in our lives, allowed God to intervene and work carefully in our life and ministry. I believed God is always there to forgive us, His mighty hands always opened in reaching our weaknesses and restore the harmonious relationship within us. SECOND PART: PRESENTATION AND INPUT

DEFINITION, PRINCIPLES, GOALS AND CHARACTERISTICS OF TRANSFORMATION.

DEFINTIONS:Transformation is the change from a condition of human existence contrary to God’s purposes to one in which people are able to enjoy fullness of life in harmony with God” (IFECOUR, 1996)Transformation is a deeply rooted change in people’s economic, social, political, spiritual and behavioral conditions resulting in their enjoyment of wholeness of life under God’s ordinances. ( Opportunity international 2000)Transformation is a change process by which individuals, families, and communities increasingly experience abundant life with God in all spheres of human life. (Zaldy Barotil, 2006)

PRINCIPLES OF TRANSFORMATION:A. Affirming the Role of God: This means that God is the

primary Author, sustainer of transformational development. God wants it and is enabling it.

B. Affirming the Role of Human Beings: This means that change takes place because human beings commit themselves to the process of change and invest what ever gifts and resources they have to the process. People must include processes of repentance and forgiveness. He also must make a choice to seek transformation and invest it.

C. Affirming the Role of the Church: The church can be the servant of its community, by harnessing the potentials of his people. Second the church can and must be a source of value formation within the community. We are not living in the four walls of our church, we should be the channel of blessing and change that community people need it most. When the church is its best, it is a sign of the values of the kingdom of God and is contributing holistic disciples to the community for its well-being. The church is more important as a source of people than as a source of instruction or prophetic word. ( Newbigin said it well).

GOALS OF TRANSFORMATION1. Changed People: Recovering true identity and discovering

true vocation (Transformation of the heart) This is the phrase used by Bryant Myers (1999) In dealing with the different disempowering systems of the poor. Transforming people begins with helping people discover that “ Their human dignity and identity is related to God.

2. Just and Peaceful Relationships: Relationship with God Relationship with one self Relationship with community Relationship with family3. Abundance: God abundantly provided for the needs of

humanity (John 10:10) Economic and material prosperity. 4. Empowerment: Includes the capacity to increase ones

capabilities and attain livelihood security. Also, increasing alternatives and meaningful participation in decisions affecting ones life.

CHARACTERISTICS OF TRANSFORMATION1. Life sustenance, or the meeting of human basic needs- Food, Shelter, Clothing2. Equity, meaning equal distribution of materials ,goods and

opportunities3. Justice within all social relationships, including democratic

participation4. Dignity and self-worth in the sense of feeling fully human

and knowing that we are made in God’s image.

THIRD PART: CHALLENGES/ REFLECTIONThe true human transformation involves choices, this is a life long journey and strategy and it’s never ends. Meaning, this is about finding life and enjoying life as God has given to us. He said, the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:10) NIV. The abundant life that God designed to His people is on hand. We, as His servants are the one representing the goodness of our Creator, Let us now spread the good news of transformation, so that the whole creations may know and noticed that God still care for them. Let us challenge our congregation about building visionary leadership and allowing God’s call to pull them forward into the future.
