The illustrator: Marcelo Pérez was born in 1962 in Rosario (Argentina) and he has lived in Madrid (Spain) since 1987. He has worked with agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi, Publicist, Grey, Tiempo BBDO and TAPSA. He has illustrated numerous school books and he has also participated in the story board of the film The Orphange directed by Juan Antonio Bayona.

The illustrator: Ester Garcia was born in 1984 in Caceres. From childhood her interest in drawing led her study Art at the University of Salamanca. It was there that she decided she wanted to become an illustrator. She likes historical illustrations. Since 2008 she’s been working as an illustrator in Madrid.

The author/ illustrator: Nuria was born in Seville in 1972. She moved to Madrid to study, like many other young people with “a suitcase full of dreams”, a BA in Media studies at the Universidad Complutense. Among other awards, she has received the V Iberoamericano SM de Literatura Infantil y Juvenil in 2009. In 2012 she has been awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Award.

The illustrator: Gabriel Hernandez was born in Melilla in 1973, and graduated in Fine Arts at the University of Granada. He has participated in numerous exhibitions, and in 2001 won the Contest Injuve of Enlightenment prize. With Anaya Publisher he illustrated, together with other illustrators, the book “Tales of Andersen” and the book “The Land of John”.

The author/Illustrator: He was born in Barcelona 1936, Spanish comic book artist and writer. He is the creator of several comic book series, the most famous of which is Mortadelo y Filemón. He worked in a bank while publishing his first drawings before dedicating himself fully to his craft in 1957. A year later, Mortadelo y Filemón appeared for the first time in the publication Pulgarcito. Subsequently, Ibáñez created several other characters. Since 1988, he has drawn six new Mortadelo y Filemón albums each year, many of which incorporate issues of the day. In 1994, he received the Grand Prize of the Salón del Cómic de Barcelona and in 2001 he was awarded with Gold Medal for Contributions to the Fine Arts”. He received the “Premios Notario del Humor” 2008 from the University of Alicante. Mort & Phil (Spanish: Mortadelo y Filemón) is one of the most popular Spanish comics series, published in more than a dozen countries. It appeared for the first time in 1958 in the children’s comic-book Pulgarcito drawn by Francisco Ibáñez. The series features Mort (Spanish: Mortadelo), the tall, bald master of disguise named after mortadella, and his bossy partner, the shorter, pudgier Phil (Spanish: Filemón) Pi. Initially, they were private detectives operating as Mortadelo y Filemón, Agencia de Información, but now both serve as secret agents in the Técnicos de Investigación Aeroterráquea (TIA is the Spanish word for “aunt”, a spoof on CIA, with T.I.A. translating into “Aeroterraquatic (air, land, sea) Investigation Technicians”.

The author:Marta Rivera de la Cruz (Lugo,1970) studied journalism in Madrid and decided that she wanted to become a writer. Her first recognition as an author was in 1996 when she was a finalist in a prestigious short-novel prize. In 1998 she won the Ateneo de Sevilla prize for youth literature with her book “That twenty years is nothing.” Perhaps her best known work is “In time of wonders”, with which she won the runner-up Planeta Prize in 2006. In 2008 she received the 5th Anaya Award for Children’s Literature with her work “The first evening after Christmas.”

The illustrator:Cecilia Varela was born in Buenos Aires in 1973. From her earliest childhood she wanted to become an illustrator. In 2007 she won her first award in Mexico and since then she has been collaborating with different publishers in Spain and in Mexico.

The author:Laura Gallego García (born in Quart de Poblet, in 1977. She is a Spanish author of children’s literature. At 21, her first novel won the Barco de Vapor Prize, and she would go on to win the award a second time for La Leyenda del Rey Errante, which was translated into English as The Legend of the Wandering King. Her pen name is “Laura Gallego”.

The illustrator: José Luis Navarro studied Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid. Since 1988 he has worked as an illustrator for children’s books, the press, etc. Currently he is involved in organising events to promote literature and reading.

Maite lives in Barcelona, Spain.

She has participated in many reading programmes in Argentina, and has worked as a member of training teams for teachers at all levels in creative reading and writing. She has helped children, teenagers and young adults in social-risk situations learn about the writing process within official programmes, private institutions, in as well as outside school. She has also been a teacher at secondary and tertiary school and worked many years training teachers. She is a well-known writer of adult poetry. The author: He was born in Valencia in 1948. He graduated in Biological Sciences and teaches this subject at the University of Valencia. In 1989 he published the novel “Sombras paralelas” (Parallel Shadows), which was later turned into a film by Gerardo Gormezano. Four years later he won the Azorín Novel Award

With “Óscar y el león de Correos” (Oscar and the Mail Lion) he won the Spanish National Children’s and Young People’s Literature Award in 1999. He has translated works by Joseph Conrad, Conan Doyle and Georges Simenon, among others. His works have been translated into numerous languages, and 22 of his titles can be found in the Library of Congress in Washington.

The illustrator: Irene Fra was born December 28, 1971 in Mataró, near Barcelona.After studying two years at the Universidad del País Vasco, she obtained her BA in 1995 from the Pontevedra School of Fine Arts, specializing in painting. She lived for a while in the US while teaching Spanish.. She worked first for publishing houses in Galicia and later she started accepting commissions from other publishers (Edelvives, S.M, Edebé, Oxford University Press España, Grupo Anaya and the Millennium book collection. Worthy of note is her participation in the 2005 collective exhibition “Ilustrísimos” at the Bologna International Book Fair, featuring Spanish book illustrators.
