Installing CaliberRDM and Integrating withCaliberRM Overview

The following sections provide information you need to successfully install CaliberRM for use with CaliberRDM.For specific guidance about installing, updating, or configuring CaliberRM, refer to the CaliberRM Help, orcontact your sales engineering professional for assistance.

Requirements for the CaliberRM IntegrationCaliberRM 2008 and CaliberRDM Installation

It is recommended that CaliberRDM and CaliberRM 2008 are installed on the same machine for optimalperformance and stability.

If you have not applied the CaliberRM 2008 SP1 Patch 12 or later (Patch 16 recommended), you must do soto ensure that CaliberRDM works properly with CaliberRM. The patch is available on the Customer SupportWeb site. You must have a support account to access this site. Contact customer support for more informationabout getting the patch.

Preparing CaliberRM for CaliberRDM

If you are installing a new instance of CaliberRM and CaliberRDM for CaliberRM, there are some actions youshould take in CaliberRM to ensure that you have a successful implementation of CaliberRDM with CaliberRM.

Ensure you install CaliberRM completely with the correct patches before installing CaliberRDM. A completeinstallation includes CaliberRM Client, CaliberRM Server, and MPX services.

Because of certain restrictions in how projects and requirements are managed in CaliberRM, you need to planuser and group associations in advance before you install CaliberRDM for use with CaliberRM.

• Set up user accounts in CaliberRM that will need access to CaliberRDM. Later, these user accounts willbe mirrored in CaliberRDM.

• Add the user accounts to the Administrator group, as well as to any other groups that you plan to have workwith projects in CaliberRDM.

For example, if you have a BusinessAnalysts group in CaliberRM whose group members will also work inCaliberRDM, ensure that all user accounts that you add are members of both the BusinessAnalyst groupand the Administrators group in CaliberRM.

Review the CaliberRM Help for instructions to set up user accounts and add user accounts to groups, as wellas for permissions for baselining and sharing requirements.

User Privileges

The following conditions apply to user privileges that are required when CaliberRDM is installed to use jointlywith CaliberRM.

12 | Installing CaliberRDM and Integrating with CaliberRM Overview

• To create a new project in CaliberRDM, the CaliberRDM user must be a member of the CaliberRMAdministrator's group.

• For CaliberRDM for CaliberRM users, a new feature in CaliberRM provides automatic Administratorpermissions to a user who creates a project in CaliberRDM that is also used in CaliberRM. This updatesimplifies the project management issue, where the user needed Administrator permission before beingallowed to make changes to a project.

• To work in an existing CaliberRDM project, the user must be a member of a CaliberRM group that is assignedto the existing CaliberRM project. The user can view the same projects in CaliberRDM and CaliberRM.

• The CaliberRDM user who is a member of a CaliberRM group assigned to a CaliberRM project has fullaccess (create, read, update, and delete) to all CaliberRDM assets except requirements. Requirementsecurity is determined by the CaliberRM security profile that is assigned to the user.

CaliberRM-related Services

When you install CaliberRM, you must select the StarTeam MPX message broker and StarTeam multicastservice options. The MPX message broker and StarTeam multicast provide important services for theCaliberRDM - CaliberRM integration. MPX provides a method to publish events such as creating or deletinga requirement.

Important: Requirements and other project assets will not update properly between the two products ifthe MPX message broker and StarTeam multicast services are not installed on the CaliberRM server.

For instructions about how to install these services, refer to the CaliberRM Installation Guide which is availablefrom the Technical Publications Web site.

Installing CaliberRDM and Integrating with CaliberRMInstall CaliberRM completely before attempting to install CaliberRDM.You must have the CaliberRM server,CaliberRM client, and the MPX services installed before attempting to install CaliberRDM, or the connectionbetween CaliberRDM and CaliberRM will not take place. You will need to specify your CaliberRM serveraddress, port number, and user name and password, and your user name must be included in the CaliberRMadministrators group to complete this task.

It is strongly recommended that you close all other applications before beginning the installation. Additionally,if you are installing CaliberRDM on a computer that has an existing Micro Focus product that uses SentinelRMS License Manager, you must uninstall this version of the License Manager, and then restart the CaliberRDMinstallation. During the CaliberRDM installation, a new version of the Micro Focus License Manager is installed.
