DATES TO REMEMBER
Dear TLS Campus community,
Christmas - A Time of Giving or Receiving? One of the things we try to teach our children is how to be “givers” not “takers.” Christmas is a great time to think about giving. We may have tried to do this in practical ways by baking Christmas cookies for others, gathering up old toys and clothes for Goodwill or making donations to Lutheran Community Care or Kind Hearted Kitchen for food for needy families in our community. This is definitely a season of giving, but is Christmas less about giving and more about receiving? On the surface it seems like receiving is easy and giving is hard, but not when it comes to our relationship with God. We naturally want
to give something to God to impress Him and make Him happy with us. It’s as if there’s an innate desire in us to get God on our side by doing something for Him. If we give our time, our money, and our gifts to Him,
then He will smile on us. And so, at Christmas time you see people volunteering at soup kitchens and dropping money in the Salvation Army buckets feeling good about themselves because they sense that God is happy with them. Don’t get me wrong. These are good
things, but is this what God really wants from us this Christmas? Ever since the beginning of civilisation, people have fallen into the lie that religion is man reaching up to God instead of God reaching down to man. Just like the people of Israel, we think that God needs our gifts and offerings, but God isn’t impressed with what we give Him. He doesn’t depend on these things, because true religion is not giving to God. It is responding to God with thanksgiving for the grace He has given to us. It is receiving from God, not giving to God. This Christmas we want to teach our children to be givers. But we also want to teach them to be receivers. We want them to receive the grace of God given to them in the gospel. We want them to receive this King who was willing to come down to them so that they would not have to reach up to Him. We want them to receive Jesus more than anything. We want this for them, because of the promise in John 1:12-13: “But to all who received Him (Jesus), to all who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.”

No LLL banking in Week 9
When we receive from God we learn what it means to give to God and others. In short, we give by receiving. We give out of a thankful heart for the grace we’ve received, and that brings glory to God and good to others. Wishing you many blessings as you
prepare for the fast approaching Christmas season, Tania Schutz, Year 4/5 Teacher.
All LLL passbooks will be returned a er banking in week 8,
which will be the last banking for 2018. Banking will resume in

Pastoral Care
KIND HEARTED KITCHEN The next ‘Kind Hearted Kitchen Cook‐up’ is on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December.
We need your help and support, please!
Kind Hearted Kitchen is a not‐for‐profit community based organisa on that relies completely on
community members dona ng ingredients, financial dona ons and volunteering to cook.
If you can help with any of these things it would be greatly appreciated!
INGREDIENTS: Dona ons of fresh produce, pasta, cans etc can be delivered to the school/ELC. There are
dona on boxes at the front office foyer, ELC foyer and by the gate. Fresh produce should be delivered on Friday 7th please.
FINANCIAL: Financial dona ons are super helpful. The preferred op on is Nuriootpa Foodland vouchers. Financial dona ons
should be given to the front office or passed to Ma hew Halman.
VOLUNTEERING: Why not join in the comradery of the cook‐up. If you can help (even for a couple of hours) on either day, please
contact Ruby on 0421 750 200, [email protected] or via the Facebook page. You don’t have to be a great cook to help –
there is always peeling, chopping etc to be done.
CLASS CARERS Intentional Community, Intentional Care Now that class lists are out, we are looking for volunteers for the cri cal role of ELC and Class Carers. This role is an important one
where volunteers take responsibili es to inten onally build ELC and class environments of posi ve community and care. This
involves welcoming and connec ng the parents/caregivers, crea ng a posi ve environment and assis ng the school/ELC in
responding to mes of need in the class families.
In order to be able to do this role, you will need to have a current, cleared Police Check (free for volunteers) and have undertaken
“Valuing Safe Communi es” training. There will also be occasional mee ngs (max 1 per term) and you would need to be okay
about us providing your contact details to the class community.
If you are interested, please contact Ma hew Halman, Wellbeing Coordinator ASAP via email ([email protected]), mobile
0413 453766 or in person (Monday, Tuesday or Friday).
