At Edlyn we have defined a framework for all future developments of brands within

our productportfolio. This framework, called our Design Philosophy, is a concise

group of attributes, that all products designed by the company must demonstrate.

If done successfully, it will align the products we develop

with our core values, our branding and our purpose.

Our Design Philosphy is summarised by:

l Great Food Experiences l Great Preparation and Serving Experiences

l Relentlessly Empathetic to End Users needs

l Minimising our Impact on the environment

We want to develop innovative products for the Foodservice Professional, that are

easy to prepare and serve, that offer the consumer a great food experience every time.

Reducing the impact on the environment has never been more important, and this

aspect will also be a critical consideration in

all developments and improvements.

Our design philosophy will guide us to ensure Edlyn brands are best in class,

in their chosen markets.

Until next time,

Andrew Donnely, CEO

Edlyn’s IT team play an extremely important role in the

day to day operation of the business. Without advanced

and capable technology systems in place Edlyn would

not be able to strategically perform at the levels required

to stay competitive within the foodservice industry.

Edlyn’s IT team is overseen by manager Harry Siva

who has been with the business for the past 7 years

and who is primarily responsible for implementing the

technology infrastructure that has allowed Edlyn access

to more and more vital business information.

Kas Gunat is Edlyn’s IT systems administrator and

offers much needed support to Harry and the entire

business in relation to everything IT.

Both Harry & Kas are responsible for all aspects of

technology throughout Edlyn, which includes the

researching, purchasing and maintenance of all servers,

PC’s, mobile’s & portable devices as well as ensuring

Edlyn has the most appropriate and cost effective

phone and data plans to ensure all employees can

access what they require as quickly as possible.

In addition they also oversee Edlyn’s operations system

‘Peercore’ which is used by almost every Edlyn

employee daily.

Having such a skilled and knowledgeable IT team

allows Edlyn to have access to more accurate business

information allowing for more precise reporting and

decision making.

To ensure Edlyn continues its growth and success it is imperative to focus on the innovation of our people, products and practices. It is with this in mind that Edlyn decided to create a

dedicated ‘innovation’ department in October 2014 with

the responsibility of creating new products and processes,

innovating existing products and packaging as well as

identifying emerging trends within the industry.

Edlyn’s innovation team is led by business innovation

manager – Aida Golneshin and supported by product

design assistant Thomas Shelley who is on university

work placement. The innovation department has hit the

ground running, developing a process by which all ideas

and improvements can be assessed thoroughly before

proceeding to implementation stage. In addition the team

is periodically identifying local and international food trends

to better understand what customers are demanding and

communicating this to the broader business through an

‘innovation board’ located at Edlyn head office.

Finally the team has begun development on several new

products and has undergone many internal product

improvement projects also.

With the extensive and professional work both Aida and

Thomas have been able to achieve so far, it is an extremely

exciting time ahead for Edlyn’s future.

End User Profile: The Sydney Adventist Hospital

Known as ‘the San’, the Sydney

Adventist Hospital Café is located in

Wahroonga Sydney and is a division of

Adventist Healthcare Limited. Owned

by the Seventh-day Adventist Church

and with a history spanning 112 years,

this non-for-profit organisation has

extensive networks and related health-

care businesses throughout New South

Wales.

From Dalcross Adventist Hospital

and San Day Surgery Hornsby to San

Diagnostics & Pharmacy;

each of these facilities provide a safe,

secure and friendly environment for

patients to come

to when assistance is needed.

Sydney Adventist Hospital define their

purpose as ‘creating and fostering an

environment that

guides our work to show we care

for our patients, our colleagues,

our community, and ourselves’.

It is this purpose that has guided

Sydney Adventist Hospital throughout

the previous 112

years and is what drives all

activities of this organisation,

from patient care, business

planning, staff management, corporate

culture development,

and human interactions on a

daily basis.

The ‘San’ café is run by Foodservice

Manager Bevan Lambert & Production

Manager Arthur Faulks whom serve

many of the hospital’s patients and

staff as well as the general public

and cater for numerous functions

throughout

the year.

With such a diversity of clientele within

the hospital, maintaining a delicious

menu offering to cater for all tastes can

sometimes be a challenge.

This is one of the reasons why the ‘San’

choose to use many different Edlyn &

Wood’s products as the flavours are

delicious and quality of the products

remain consistent each and every time.

Both Bevan and Arthur enjoy using the

Edlyn mousse as they feel the product

is of a fantastic quality, and the flavour

is exceptional with no nasty aftertaste.

The ease of use and consistency of

application and flavour has pleasantly

raised eyebrows within the kitchen

and from patients. While the Wood’s

Tomato Relish is regarded very highly

by customers, always providing a high-

quality taste and is a favourite of the

patients with savoury meals.

This is one of the reasons why the ‘San’ choose to use many

different Edlyn & Wood’s products as the flavours

are delicious...

Fired Up & Ready to Go! Those that have stepped foot inside Edlyn’s head office or spoke to an Edlyn employee of late may have heard the catch phrase ‘Fired Up & Ready to Go!’All Edlyn employees were recently shown a youtube video

called ‘fired up, ready to go’, which showcased Barak Obama’s

2008 presidential campaign. The video told the story of a

woman who used the catch phrase ‘fired up & ready to go’ to

motivate Barak Obama on his campaign trail. So impressed

was Obama with the phrase he then began using it within his

campaign advertising & speeches.

The video offers an inspirational look at how one person can

motivate change with just a few words. Since experiencing

The Edlyn ‘My Idea Rules’ program has been in operation now for just over a year and what better time than now to take a step back and review what has been achieved with such an innovative initiative. The program itself was conceived back in mid 2014

by Edlyn’s management team as a way to provide a

communication channel to all staff wanting to share their

innovative ideas about anything and everything relating

to Edlyn.

Whilst the program is company wide, it has been more heavily

adopted by Edlyn’s production team led by manager Mitch

Wearne, whom identified the program as a great way to put

a theme behind all of the ideas and enhancements his team

were presenting to him on a weekly basis.

Since its implementation a year ago, a total of 61 ideas

have been put forward from 22 staff predominantly from

motivational mantra and has used it as a theme for our most

recent national sales conference and also to drive a series of

personal development workshops for employees.

production and warehouse team members. Of these 61

ideas, 11 have been submitted for safety improvements,

7 on quality improvements and the remaining in efficiency

and cost savings.

Ideas surrounding safety ranged from reducing slip hazards, improving cooking safety within the Wood’s room, and reducing excess waste on the floor. Whereas ideas around quality focused on opportunities to reduce energy usage and paper waste and also improving the management of frozen ingredients to ensure greater quality of raw materials.

Finally, many ideas were based around reducing costs within the business, one stand out idea to reduce water usage resulted in a saving of over 2 million litres of water per year within Edlyn’s production facility.

The ‘My Idea Rules’ program has proven to be an extremely positive and value driven initiative that has been positively adopted by all Edlyn staff.

There is no doubt that with the continued enthusiasm for innovation from the Edlyn team, the ‘My Idea Rules’ program

will continue to be a fantastic success.
