What is SCOPE/SCORE?

ASMO in collaboration with IFMSA (InternationalFederation of Medical Students Associations) andFASMR (Federation of Medical Students Associationsfrom Romania) organizes internationals medicalinternships during summer through the SCOPE/SCOREdepartments.

THE SCOPE/SCOREINTERNSHIPS

• These internships are distributed to students by LEO and LORE officers, after a contest where can participate students from first to sixth year, General Medicine, Romanian andEnglish section.

• The internship period is 4 weeks in the following months: July, August or September.

• The student will receive one meal per day, for five days per week during the internship.

• These internships are recognized as summer practice by the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy from Oradea.

I. The contest period

1. The internships distribution period:

Submission will take place over a period of five days. After this period,we will announce the results, following 2 days of legal contest. Afterthose 2 days we will distribute the internships during a meeting with everyone who submitted their file. The internships will be distributed in a descending order of the scores.

• After choosing the country, within 7 days, the student must sign thecontract and pay the guarantee (100 lei) and the first part of theinternship costs.

• The Application Form should be sent until 16 December.

• If some of the internships will not be distribute , we are going toorganize a new distribution session.

2. Calculation of the score

• final grade of the previous university year

• volunteer activity from the previous year

• scientific activity from the previous year

• previous participation in an SCOPE or SCORE internship

The total maximum score is 100 points. The student must have: certificate of English or other language requested by the hosting country.

• 40% will represent the school final grade from the previous year(maximum 40 points). (0,4 x final grade)

• In the case of first year students we will consider the admission grade.

• Co-author means no more than the following 3 people (after the author) who contributed in the writing of the paper (co-author1, co-author2, co-author3).

• We will score only the student's participation in maximum 2 workshops and 3 congresses.

• Where participation diploma at a Congress or a scientific communication does not specify the status of active or passive student, and there is no proof of his status, the student will be considered a passive participant.

• If there are multiple activities of the same category, first taken into account are the activities with the highest score.

First year students will be scoredbased on the voluntary workdone until the moment ofsubmissioning the file.

10% will represent (maximum 10pt):

• 10 pt for the students who havn't participated in a internship before

• 5 pt for the students who participated in one internship before

• 0 pt for the students who participated at least in 2 internships before

• In the case of equal scores, the student who has never participated in an internship before will be favored.

• If both candidates have the same status, the differentiation criteria will be the final grade of the previous university year.

II. Choosing the internship

• The internship will be chosen during a meeting after the legal contestperiod.

• The internships will be distributed in order of decreasing scores.

• The students should be informed of the Exchange Conditions(EC) of the countries in which they are interested in (example: there are countries that accept only students from certain years with a certain level of knowledge etc).

Notes: the internships which will not be distributed will be announced on the Facebook group and the local officers will contact the students (in descending order by scores) who failed to catch an internship. If after this process some countries willstill remain undistributed, a new selection will be organized. The period will be announced by the local officers.

III. TAXES

• For the contest submission, the students will pay a fee of 10 lei.

• The price of the internship is determined by the category that the student will choose:

➢ Countries from the Category I: 230 Euro

➢ Countries from the Category II a: 160 Euro

➢ Countries from the Category II b: 180 Euro

➢ Countries from the Category III: 110 Euro

• The fee can be paid full or in two installments. The first installment and the guarantee will be paid in the next 7 days after receiving the internship.

The guarantee of 100 lei will be paid together with the first instalment. It will be refunded if the student respect the following conditions:

1. presents the official IFMSA certificate signed and stamped;

2. complete the Evaluation Form (EF) for the hosting country;

3.presents the Handbook or Logbook completed;

4. will be a contact person for a week/3 activities in the next season;

5.have not created damage and respected the rules imposed by the local Committee.

IV. Quitting the internship

The refund of the taxes:

- 100% - before signing the contract/receiving late Card of Acceptance for at least 10 days

- 50% - after signing the contract

- 25% -in case of cancellation in less than one month before the deadline for receiving the CA

- 0% -for cancellation after receiving the CA

The student will receive back 100% of the taxes in case of: medical conditions (based on medical certificates), some cases of death in the family (1st degree relatives), unfavourable socio-economic conditions in that country (war, natural disasters).

(a) in the case of dropping the internship, the student must send a cancellation request to the Local Officers as soon as possible.

(b) Local Officers reserves the right not to refund the student’s internship fee if a request for the cancellation of the internship was not sent.

(c) the Internship will not be cancelled without a written request and signed by the student. In this case, the fee will not be returned to the student.

• The deadline for receiving the CA is with 8 weeks before the start of the internship. Exceptions: health problems, political conditions and unfavourable socio-economic status in that country (war, natural disasters).

• The deadline for sending the AF is one month from the time of receiving your internship.(16 December)

• In case of cancellation the internship, ASMO will not return the student expenses (flight tickets, medical insurance, visa application, etc.).

What should contain the file?

1.Envelope file (with the full name and year of study);

2.Note from secretary with final average of last year;

3.Copy of the language certificate (ex: Bacalaureat, Cambridge, IELTS);

4.A statement from the President of A.S.M.O or from the coordinator of department which will confirm the position of the volunteer in A.S.M.O

5. Copy of diplomas, Projects from A.S.M.O;

6. Any activity in UPU, SMURD, Ambulance, etc requires volunteering contract-note;

7. Research activities-copy of diploma for participation at congresses, workshops, trainings.

8.Copy of the articles published in specialized magazines

9. Certificate from the tutor in case of participation in research work;

10. On a note you should specify:

• if the student was in a SCOPE/SCORE internship before;

• 2 more internship options in case of the redistribution

Tuesday: 11 am- 5 pm

Wednesday : 11 am- 6 pm

Thursday: 10 am- 4 pm

Friday: 9 am-11 am, 12 am-3 pm, 5 pm-7 pm

Saturday: 11 am- 1 pm => closing of the contest

!!! Those who are with TransMed/Erasmus/not able to arrive at the ASMO office during the period for the submission, can send the files (pictures clear/scan after diploma) to the following email address and the fee for submitting will be paid at the distribuion meeting . Otherwise, the student will lose any right to participate in another SCOPE/SCORE internship for the next two seasons.
