Meetings

• Annually in ordinary session (November)

This year the meeting will be held from 30 November to 4 December 2015 in Windhoek, Namibia

• Open to observers from States Parties, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, etc.

• Open to public in the limit of available space

Functions

• Promote the objectives of the Convention

• Prepare the Operational Directives for the implementation of the Convention to be approved by the General Assembly

• Examine the reports on the implementation of the Convention and on the status of elements inscribed

• Grant international assistance

• Use the Fund for international cooperation

• Recommend to the General Assembly accreditation of non governmental organizations

• Inscribe on the Lists (USL, RL) and selects BSP(none for this cycle)

Working methods

• Governed by Rules of Procedure of the Committee

• Work facilitated by its Bureau

• May establish ad hoc consultative bodies, subsidiary bodies or working groups

• Committee meetings are public except under specific circumstances

The Secretariat

• Prepare the documentation of the Committee

• Propose draft agenda

• Ensures implementation of the Committee’s decisions

• Reduced team travelling to Namibia for the tenth session in order to reduce costs

• Team supported by UNESCO offices in Harare and Windhoek

Accreditations of non-governmental organizations

• No accreditation of non-governmental organizations at ninth session last year

• 54 requests from non-governmental organizations for accreditations to provide advisory services to the Committee

• Renewal of relations with 97 non-governmental organizations to be considered

Establishment 2016 Body

• Tenth session will establish the second Evaluation Body that will carry out evaluations in 2016 (3 seats to be filled)

• Tenth session will also elect the members of the Bureau of the eleventh session of the Committee

• No formal proposal for host country so far (Information related to hosting the session was nevertheless requested by some State Parties Members of the Committee)
