Voorbeeld: niveau signaal a is 3 dB hoger dan signaal b betekent:10 . 10log (a/b) = 3 dBdus 10log (a/b) = 0,3 dus 100,3 = a/b = 2dus 3 dB verschil signaalniveau komt overeen met factor 2 verschil in absolute waarde van signaalniveau.

Uit definitie dB volgt, wanneer formule wordt omgezet in dB:- product in formule wordt som in dB : a.b → 10.(log a + log b)- quotient in formule wordt verschil in dB: a/b → 10.(log a – log b)- macht in formule wordt product in dB: ab → 10.log ab = 10.b.log a

EW 101: EW signaalniveau berekeningen in dB



Absolute waarde van signaal kan alleen in dB worden uitgedrukt door vergelijking met standaard waarde, want dB is verhouding.De gehanteerde standaard waarde wordt aangegeven als bv. dBm of dBW, de standaard is dan 1 mW resp. 1 W (zie EW101 tabel 2.1).

Voorbeeld: 1kW signaalniveau uitgedrukt in dB:Wanneer uitgedrukt in dBW: 10 . log (1kW/1W) = 10 . log(1000W/1W) = 10 log 1000 = 30 dBW

Wanneer uitgedrukt in dBm:10 . log(1kW/1mW) = 10 . log (1000000mW/1mW) = 60 dBm





• Alle formules worden in EW101 herleid tot signaalniveau berekeningen in dB’s.

• Alle constantes in formules (π, c, …) worden samengevat in “fudge factor”, vast getal dat per formule verschilt. Voorbeeld: in formule LS= 32 + 20log(d) + 20log (f) is 32 de “fudge factor”

• Voorwaarde hiervoor is dat met juiste dimensies wordt gewerkt bij toepassing formules, dus bv

d = distance in kmf = transmission frequency in MHz
