BUSINESS MODELS & SOLUTIONS for the development of the Smart
City
New models of Economic Sustainability 2.30 p.m. – 6.30 p.m.
Salone di Rappresentanza, Palazzo Tursi
Simultaneous translation ita-eng-ita available
The “construction” of a Smart City is the result of three “building blocks”:
technologies, actors (both public and private) and financing models. Technology
alone cannot turn a city into a smart city. A shared regulatory framework and a
system of funding and incentives are also needed. Developing innovative and
intelligent devices and systems are the first step “to imagine” a smart urban model,
but they need new business models to be implemented and incorporated into a
complex project. Despite the existance of relevant regulations, there are no
reference models for financing and supporting smart city innovation projects. The
session will be focused on this subject and will propose possible solutions and case
history.
MAIN TOPICS
Business models adopted in Italian and European cities
Types of business models: organic and additive. Pros and cons.
Models and solutions of public and private partnership
Project financing and incentives for the development of smart cities

GREEN SOLUTIONS for the urban regeration A city can be seen as an ecosystem made up of networks and relationships,
equipped with plans, intellect and knowledge and dominated by man. But cities are
also provided with a natural ecosystem, though conditioned by urban development,
which offers innovative and sustainable solutions to the problems we are trying to
solve and manage in smart cities. Nature is still an essential element of sustainability in
life and in life in the cities as well.
“Green Solutions” are multiple, related to different areas of interest.
Workshop
“URBAN AGENDA FOR THE EU - Climate Adaptation Partnership” Hosted by Genova Smart Week
Organized by Genoa Municipality
5 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Salone di Rappresentanza, Palazzo Tursi
Simultaneous translation ita-eng-ita available
The climate is one of the main topics to be considered in the management of a
green city. During the Smart Week, Genoa will host the partners of the Global
Climate Adaptation Partnership. Six local authorities (the Province of Barcelona and
the cities of Glasgow, Trondheim, Potenza, Loulé in Algarve and Sfantu Gheorghe in
Transylvania), four Member States (France, Poland, Hungary and Bulgaria) and three
General Directions of the European Commission (REGIO, CLIMA, ENV) are part of the
network. Local government agencies (EuroCities and the Council of Commons and
Regions of Europe), the European Investment Bank and Europe funding programs
(Interreg Europe, Urban, Espon, etc.) are involved in the program.
The Municipality of Genoa has been chosen as coordinator of the international
network «Climate Adaptation Partnership», that in the next three years will be
concerned with issues related to coping with climate change in urban areas. The
network will be aiming at: advancing new proposals to adapt the current legislation
to growing urban realities; addressing topics that might be financed by European
Programs in the future; conceiving new networking models for exchanging
knowledge and experience.
The meeting of the project partners will be followed by a public presentation of the
partnership on Tuesday afternoon

The choice of mobility based on electric motors for the future is now widely
accepted by international analysts, and most car manufacturers are proposing or
currently developing electric models and rechargeable hybrids. In Italy, however,
the introduction of such vehicles is still slow and strongly depending on the issue of

Participation in this conference recognizes
n.2 credits to the Order of Geometers, n.4 credits to the Order of Architects, n.3
credits to the Order of Engineers.
In industrialized countries, commercial and residential buildings cover approximately
40% of primary energy consumption for heating, air conditioning, lighting, etc. This
consumption can be reduced by up to 80% using smart building management
systems to control the various functions and resulting into energy efficiency, security,
and comfort.
Technologies available today can significantly improve energy efficiency, paving
the way to smart buildings. The economic crises we are currently facing originated a
crisis in the real estate market. The use of technology in requalification is now giving
new value to buildings, increasing their appeal in the market. In addition, innovations
in Smart City's technology management will prompt the implementation of smart
grids in the buildings to be interconnected with Smart Grids.
The session will illustrate the current situation in the sector, the best practices at
international, national and local level, and the recovery and development policies
of the industry.
