Issue 96 | August 2016 Strictly for Private Circulation MACROECONOMIC UPDATE n During Jun-16, the Index of Industrial production (IIP) and manufacturing grew to its eight month high of 2.1% and 0.9% (y-o-y) respectively. n The capital goods sector registered a sharp decline of 16.5% in Jun-16, registering an eighth consecutive fall, whereas the basic goods sector recorded its highest growth in last 13 months, growing by 5.9% in Jun-16. n The consumer non-durable goods grew by 1.0% (y-o-y) in Jun-16, while the intermediate goods grew by 6.1% in Jun-16, highest in the last eight months. n During Jul-16, WPI inflation climbed to 23 months high at 3.5% (y-o-y). Inflation in food articles jumped to 11.8% in Jul-16 as against an increase of 8.2% in Jun-16 owing to elevated level of inflation in vegetables (28.1%) and pulses (35.8%). n The CPI inflation for the month of Jul-16 increased to 6.1% - highest in 23 months. The inflation rate for rural and urban areas was recorded at 6.7% and 5.4%, respectively in Jul-16. n The aggregate deposit and bank credit grew by 9.5% and 9.7% (y-o-y) respectively, for the week ended July 22, 2016 as against a growth of 11.1% & 8.9% in the year ago-period. n Exports in Jul-16 declined by 6.8% (y-o-y) to US$ 21.7 bn, while imports declined by 19% to US$ 29.5 bn. MACROECONOMIC UPDATE

n During Jun-16, the Index of Industrial production (IIP) and manufacturing grew to its eight month high of 2.1% and 0.9% (y-o-y) respectively.

n The capital goods sector registered a sharp decline of 16.5% in Jun-16, registering an eighth consecutive fall, whereas the basic goods sector recorded its highest growth in last 13 months, growing by 5.9% in Jun-16.

n The consumer non-durable goods grew by 1.0% (y-o-y) in Jun-16, while the intermediate goods grew by 6.1% in Jun-16, highest in the last eight months.

n During Jul-16, WPI inflation climbed to 23 months high at 3.5% (y-o-y). Inflation in food articles jumped to 11.8% in Jul-16 as against an increase of 8.2% in Jun-16 owing to elevated level of inflation in vegetables (28.1%) and pulses (35.8%).

AUTO COMPONENTS INDUSTRY

n Setco Automotive incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary company in the name of Setco MEA DMCC, in Dubai for United Arab Emirates Dirham (AED) 100,000.

n WABCO Holdings Inc signed a multi-year agreement with Mahindra & Mahindra to supply vaccum pumps that feature modular, lightweight design and ultra-low power consumption for braking as well as non-braking functions.

n Two and three-wheeler tyre maker TVS Srichakra launched its two-wheeler radial tyres 'Protorq' for premium bikes.

n Steel Strips Wheels India bagged its maiden export order of development of around 150,000 ground wheels, from Mobius Motors, Kenya at a project cost of around US$ 2.4 million. The company also received export order from Elio Motors, USA for approximately 3 million wheels.

n Minda Industries plans to acquire 49% stake of Roki Japan for ` 429.7 million from the JV that its parent group UNO Minda has with the Japanese firm.

n Menon Bearings plans to invest ` 150 million to start new line of production of automobile components consisting of bearings, bushes and washers.

n Exide Industries plans to invest ̀ 14 billion over the next two years to introduce high performance automotive batteries with new-age punch-grid technology.

n Apollo Tyres set to open a unit in Hungary by next year with an investment of over Euros 400 million.

n Bosch plans to start manufacturing anti-lock braking system (ABS) for two-wheelers at its Chakan plant from next fiscal.

n German automotive components manufacturer, ZF Friedrichshafen AG, plans to set up its first ever India Technology Centre in Hyderabad dedicated to software and mechanical engineering.

n China-based Anhui ARN Group bought 6.06% in German automotive supplier SHW AG.

n Pierburg GmbH, Neuss belonging to the German automotive component maker Rheinmetall Automotive sector, received a major order for its newly developed vacuum pumps from an internationally operating German automotive group worth around ̀ 4.47 bn.

n Tesla Motors opened a US$ 5 billion factory in the Nevada desert to expand production of lithium-ion batteries.

n BMW Group plans to build a new plug-in hybrid vehicle battery factory in Thailand with an investment of US$ 57 million.

n Henniges Automotive Holdings, a global supplier of highly engineered sealing and anti-vibration components for the automotive market announced to open its first manufacturing plant in Poland.

n The RBI kept key policy repo rate under the Liquidity Adjustment Facility (LAF) unchanged at 6.5% in its Third Bi-monthly Monetary Policy Statement FY17.

n The RBI released guidelines for 'on tap' licensing of universal private sector banks. Under this, applicants can now apply for a banking licence anytime as opposed to a limited-period window that the RBI previously used to open for applications. The guidelines exclude large industry houses as eligible entities, although they can invest up to 10%. The minimum paid-up capital has been kept at ̀ 5 billion.

n With a view to encouraging wider participation and retail holding of treasury bills, the Government of India, in consultation with the RBI extended the non-competitive bidding facility in treasury bills to the individuals. For retail investors, the allocation will be restricted to a maximum of 5% of the aggregate nominal amount of the issue.

n The RBI released draft guidelines for customer liability in case of fraudulent transactions. As per the guidelines, bank customers will not be liable to pay for fraudulent online transactions that occur from his account outside his control.

n ICICI Bank entered into an agreement with Apollo Global Management to commence an asset reconstruction company.

n HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Ltd and Shamrao Vithal Co-operative (SVC) Bank announced their bancassurance agency partnership to provide a range of non-life insurance offerings to the customers of the bank.

n State Bank of India launched a payment system at its ATMs which will allow the account holders transfer money using mobile phone number as identifier.

n South Indian Bank and SBI Card announced the launch of co-branded credit cards for the customers of South Indian Bank. Through this alliance South Indian Bank and SBI Card will launch two variants of credit card on VISA platform, namely South Indian Bank Platinum SBI Card and South Indian Bank SimplySAVE SBI Card.

n Kotak Mahindra Bank enabled online shopping portal Flipkart in its mobile banking application in order to ensure a seamless shopping experience for its customers.

n National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) partnered with Union Bank of India to launch an USSD based *99# mobile application for their customers.

n Axis Bank announced a tie-up with digital payments company Freecharge for a Unified Payments Interface (UPI) app.

n Ashok Leyland received order for 1200 medium and heavy commercial vehicles from logistics start-up, Rivigo.

n JBM Solaris, a joint venture between Indian auto component maker JBM Auto and Polish Solaris Bus & Coach plans to invest ̀ 3 billion over the next 2-3 years to engineer, design and develop full electric and hybrid buses in India.

n Hinduja Group's flagship Company, Ashok Leyland plans to set up a bus assembly plant in Kenya with an annual capacity of 1,200 buses and an investment of ̀ 700 million as part of its global expansion plans.

n Maruti Suzuki plans to launch an LCV – Super Carry in three cities priced at ̀ 4.03 lakh (ex-showroom Ahmedabad), ̀ 4.11 Lakh (ex-showroom Kolkata) and ̀ 4.01 (ex-showroom Ludhiana). The company also plans to have separate dealership for its LCV.

n Bharat Coach Builders, the Mumbai-based coachbuilder, developed three models of customized 'Presidential Line' bus, one each for the presidents of Senegal, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

n According to Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, overall exports from the gem and jewellery sector during Jun 2016 stood at US$ 3.51 billion, a growth of 4.03% over the US$ 3.37 billion exported in the same month the previous year.

n According to the World Gold Council's latest Gold Demand Trends report, global gold demand reached 2,335 tonnes in the first six months of 2016.

n All India Gems and Jewellery Trade Federation (GJF) plans to conduct workshops in 60 cities across the country to create awareness among jewellers on norms of excise duty implementation and other trade related practises.

n Titan Co Ltd announced to acquire 62% stake in online jewellery player Carat Lane for ̀ 3.57 billion.

n Rajesh Exports obtained a contract worth ̀ 7.86 billion from UAE to export gold and diamond jewellery and medallions.

n P C Jeweller plans to raise up to ̀ 2.57 billion through issue of preferential shares to US-based investment firm Fidelity for business expansion.

n Kiran Gems added a new 200,000 Sq Ft factory office in Surat, Gujarat which houses the latest state-of-the-art planning and cutting technology facilities for all kinds of rough diamonds.

n National Mineral Development Corporation Ltd received permission from the Forest Advisory Committee to enter into Kalyandurg forest range in Ananthapur district, Andhra Pradesh for carrying out diamond exploration.

n Unolux Metallo Valenza S.R.L developed a new age metal termed as 'Lumineux Uno' for the millennia generation. Lumineux Uno is a premium luxury metal amalgamation of gold, platinum, palladium and silver that consists 95.5% of pure precious metals.

n The De Beers Group of Companies (51%) and Mountain Province Diamonds (49%) announced that the Gahcho Kué process plant has been commissioned, and that ore from the mine is now being fed to the process plant to signal the formal ramp-up of diamond production.

n Rio Tinto unveiled its Australian Diamonds programme in China to lend further market support to its Argyle diamonds and in response to the growing consumer and trade interest in diamond provenance.

n Directorate General of Foreign Trade unveiled norms for human bio samples trade according to which import and export of bio samples by domestic diagnostics labs or clinical research centres should be permitted by customs authorities without prior approval, subject to certain conditions.

n The Andhra Pradesh government plans to set up two big pharmaceutical industry clusters in Visakhapatnam and Nellore spread over 2,000 and 3,500 acres respectively.

n Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (Sun Pharma) and Almirall entered into a licensing agreement for development and commercialization of Tildrakizumab for Psoriasis in Europe.

STEEL INDUSTRY

n To protect domestic industries from cheap imports, the Government of India extended the minimum import price (MIP) on 66 steel products for a period of two months till October 4, 2016.

n Director General Anti-dumping & Allied Duties (DGAD) recommended provisional anti-dumping duty of up to US$ 557 per tonne on hot rolled coil (HRC) sheet and plate imports from six countries namely China, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Brazil and Indonesia.

n Steel Ministry announced setting up of a special committee on issues related to the Stainless Steel Quality Control (QC) Order, 2016.

n According to the latest data from the Joint Plant Committee (JPC), part of the Steel Ministry, steel consumption in Jul 2016 increased by 1.1% y-o-y to 6.3 million tonnes but was down by 7.4% on m-o-m basis.

n As per the latest data from the JPC, steel production in Jul 2016 increased by 5.6% y-o-y to 8.1 million tonnes.

n GAIL India Ltd placed order for purchase of 315 km of steel pipes for Auraiya-Phulpur pipeline on Jindal Saw and Essar Steel at a total cost of ̀ 3.05 billion.

n VISA Steel resumed operations at its Steel Melt Shop, Ladle Refining Furnace, Vacuum Degassing and Rolling Mill facilities at its Kalinganagar plant in Odisha.

n Jindal Stainless Ltd received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for manufacture of stainless steel flat products.

n In order to best utilise iron ore resources, zero waste mining, value addition and strengthening mineral economy, the Odisha government set up a new Directorate of Steel.

n Tata Steel announced that the Quebec government will invest Canadian Dollar 175 million in its joint venture firm, Tata Steel Minerals Canada's direct shipping iron ore project (DSO project).

n Krakatau Steel announced to start the construction of a US$ 400 million hot strip mill in Cilegon, Banten, Indonesia. The mill is expected to add 1.5 million tonnes to its current 3.15 million tonne annual steel production.

n The textile sector in India attracted foreign direct investment (FDI) of US$ 230.13 million in FY16, registering a growth of 16.6% y-o-y, according to the department of industrial policy & promotion.

n The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2016 was approved by Lok Sabha. As regards the textiles & garments sector, the taxation amendment bill eased the conditions for availing tax incentives under Section 80JJAA of the Income Tax Act, 1961.

n The Chatterjee Group (TCG) picked up a majority stake in Japanese major Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation's (MCC) Indian unit in West Bengal for around ` 3.22 billion.

n Valsad based Atul Ltd developed the mobile app, named 'AtuloCloud' which will help customers to access the technical database of dyes.

n India's spinning technologies producer LMW designed, developed and launched a solar powered mini ring frame, which is expected to benefit the khadi industry.

n Welspun plans to launch a series of innovative textiles with patented technology. The company announced the patented HygroCotton technology by its premium brand Spaces Home & Beyond.

n India, in its attempts to curb speculations across various markets and trading platforms, and bring about further transparency in the price discovery mechanism is planning to launch a cotton price index of its own for which it will be taking into account benchmark rates from four different sources.

n Shri Vallabh Pittie Industries inaugurated its ` 4.5 billion new textile plant in Rajasthan. The plant is fully automated with 100,000 spindles holding a manufacturing capacity of 22,000 tonnes per annum and is spread across 25 acres of area.

n Yamaha Motor Research & Development India Pvt Ltd plans to set up its second R&D centre in India at Yamaha Motor's plant in Kanchipuram district, Tamil Nadu, with an investment of about ̀ 660 million.

n Royal Enfield, motorcycle division of Eicher Motors plans to invest ̀ 6 billion in a new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, in product development and research & development (R&D) centres.

n Indian arm of European two wheeler manufacturer Piaggio Vehicles commenced manufacturing of the Aprilia SR 150 from its plant in Baramati, Maharashtra.

n Bajaj Auto launched three-wheeler cargo vehicle - Maxima C in CNG variant priced at ` 1.89 Lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and Bajaj Platina 100 ComforTec priced at ` 43,241 (ex-showroom Delhi). The company also launched Avenger Street variants in two new colours - Matte Wild Green and Cosmic Red priced at ` 85,497 and ̀ 75,500 (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively.

n Polaris Industries Inc's arm Indian Motorcycle launched 2016 Scout Sixty priced at ̀ 12.21 lakh (ex-showroom Hyderabad).

n Indian premium bike segment player, Firefox Bikes launched Swiss Military co-branded bikes in association with Swiss Military.
