HYDRO CLEANSING 24

Hydro Cleansing is a forward thinking specialist drainage and

environmental solutions provider. Company vehicles travel

throughout the UK and Europe to residential and industrial

addresses. The fleet consists of 80 vehicles with tankers,

sweepers and specialist drainage vehicles with tractor units from Scania and Renault and customised

bodies from Whale Tankers.

Problems faced....

With the vast size of many of the fleet specialist vehicles poor visibility

for drivers was a major concern. False claims against the fleet, as well

as vehicle damage caused by driver error were all too common.

Alongside the false accident claims many accidents were being settled

50:50 and fleet insurance was rising year on year.

Hydro Cleansing is also a Cross Rail services supplier and required

systems that comply with Cross Rail and FORS.

The fleet managers also wanted to improve driver behaviour and be able to monitor vehicles live in

real-time to enable faster response times for customers.

Problems resolved....

In order to eliminate blind-spots around Hydro-Cleansing’s largest vehicles on-board screens are

installed displaying side and rear camera views. These blind spot cameras also trigger to full screen

when indicators are activated or reverse gear is selected. The on board Mobile DVR systems are

used to constantly record both internal and external locations in and around the vehicles and can be

monitored live by fleet managers. Side proximity systems are installed to automatically alert the

driver if vulnerable road users are detected in the nearside blind spot and ensure company

compliance with Cross Rail / FORS.

SYSTEMS INSTALLED

TrackEye 8 DVR - with 6 x high

resolution vehicle cameras

(Front, Rear, Side & Internal Views)

7” On Board Screen - monitor blind spots

with auto-switching of camera views

IP69K Rated Cameras - vehicles cleaned

daily & exposed to harsh environments

3G Live Module - instant live streaming

from vehicle with real-time GPS tracking

Near Side Sounder - to alert vulnerable

road users of the vehicle

Cyclist Proximity Alert System - to alert driver of cyclists in near

side blind spot area

LONDON BOROUGH OF BARNET

Barnet is the second largest London borough and has one of the largest refuse

vehicle fleets of any local authority in the UK. Predominately the fleet is made

up of large specialist Dennis refuse vehicles.

Problems faced... .

Problems resolved....

SYSTEMS FITTED

TrackEye 8 DVR + GPS - 5 x high-res vehicle cameras (Front, Rear, Side & Internal Views)

Customised Mirror Arm Camera - custom design to capture entire side of wide body vehicle

7” On Board Screen - monitor blind spots, with auto-switching of camera views

IP69K Rated Cameras - vehicles steam cleaned and jet washed daily & exposed to harsh

environments

Like many local authorities there were significant and recurring

accidents and incidents with council waste collection vehicles.

Poor visibility meant that drivers were often causing minor

damage to the vehicles and public property. Numerous false

claims against the refuse fleet were also being reported, leaving

the council with a poor insurance record and high insurance

premium. The council had limited means of challenging any of

these claims.

With 38 brand new Refuse Collection vehicles Barnet

wanted to protect their new assets. The new vehicles were

fitted with a 5 camera TrackEye system during the vehicle

build at Dennis Eagle coachworks. The on board display

screen gives drivers increased visibility when manoeuvring,

whilst geo-location and vehicle speed are used by transport

managers when downloading video files. The large 1TB

storage capacity of the unit provides around 30-40 days of

continuous recording footage, which has proved very useful

when assessing backdated accident claims.

The recorder units are also used to improve driver behaviour

and capture all too common staff assaults and altercations.

The high resolution footage has been used on more than one

occasion to secure convictions for assaults on staff.

With the use of on board camera systems the council is now

also looking to move up to higher status as part of the Fleet

Operator’s Recognition Scheme (FORS).

BRETT AGGREGATES

Brett Aggregates is the largest independent producer of sand and

gravel in the UK. It manages Brett Group UKs quarry and has sites

across the South and East of England. Vehicles work on quarry and

construction sites and travel on motorways and main roads delivering

aggregate materials around the country.

Problems faced...

Brett required a recording solution to protect their large fleet against rising insurance costs.

Increased visibility on the near side of vehicles was essential as many of the vehicles travel

in and out of London on a daily basis, with cyclists and pedestrians being hard for drivers to

spot. Brett also need to be Crossrail Compliance and are actively involved in ongoing

Crossrail projects.

Problems resolved...

Brett have had installed multi-camera systems with cyclist proximity alert systems,

alongside our TrackEye Mobile DVR system.

This has helped them to continue to be fully compliant with the Crossrail for their projects,

plus the added recording functions prevents from false claims against the fleet and gives

fleet managers greater control over the fleet.

The TrackEye systems installed have a ‘Go Live’ function enabling fleet managers to track

the fleet and stream real-time video from

their vehicles via the 3G network
