Problem Summary

In today’s world we face many problems related to security and automation.

An industry using man power to complete it’s task leads to increase production cost and more requirement of man power.

Hence automation is the only solution since this will decrease cost, man power, floor spacing.

Another problem is of security. In the day-to-day life there comes various situations in which

security is being challenged. The need for developing an error free and cheap security

access control system is greatly in demand. Hence our project “Industrial Automation and Security

System based on GSM” is a reasonable solution in terms of failed security and automation.

AUTOMATION Automation is the use of machines, control systems and

information technologies to optimize productivity in the production of goods and delivery of services.

The correct incentive for applying automation is to increase productivity, quality beyond that possible human labour levels so as to realize economies of scale and predictable quality levels.

Automation plays an increasingly important role in the world economy and daily experience.

• Few advantages of Automation: Increased productivity Improved quality Improved consistency of processes and products.

SECURITY SYSTEM In today’s world security is the only thing which an

individual needs either of his house or of his industry.

Security systems fulfil this need.

There are various types of security systems.

Few are:• Internet security system• Video security system• Acoustic sensors• Wireless security system

Why we use Microcontroller? A system designer using a general-purpose

microprocessor such as the Pentium or the 68040 must add RAM, ROM, I/O ports, and timers externally to make them functional.

The addition of external RAM, ROM, and I/O ports makes these systems bulkier and much more expensive.

They have the advantage of versatility such that the designer can decide on the amount of RAM, ROM and I/O ports needed to fit the task at hand.

This is not the case with Microcontrollers.

Page 11: INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION AND SECURITY SYSTEM BASED ON

A Microcontroller has a CPU (a microprocessor) in addition to a fixed amount of RAM, ROM, I/O ports, and a timer all on a single chip.

In other words, the processor, the RAM, ROM, I/O ports and the timer are all embedded together on one chip.

Therefore, the designer cannot add any external memory, I/O ports, or timer to it.

The fixed amount of on-chip ROM, RAM, and number of I/O ports in Microcontrollers makes them ideal for many applications in which cost and space are critical.

Why we use Microcontroller for Embedded System

Microcontrollers are widely used in Embedded Systems products.

An embedded product uses the microprocessor or microcontroller to do one task only.

A printer is an example of embedded system since the processor inside it performs one task only namely getting the data and printing it .Contrast this with Pentium based PC.

A PC can be used for any number of applications such as word processor, print server, bank teller terminal, videogame player; network server or internet terminal. Software for variety of applications can be loaded and run.

GSM Modem Every system is automated in order to face new challenges

in the present day situations.

Automated systems have less manual operations, so that the flexibility, reliabilities are high and accurate.

Probably the most useful thing to know about the global system for mobile communication is that it is an international standard. If you travel in parts of world, GSM is only type of cellular service available.

Instead of analog services, GSM was developed as a digital system using TDMA technology.

Combinations of both systems

With the combinations of this project of Automation & Security System we are developing model of industries which consists of GSM as well as Infrared system.

By means of automation system we are operating loads it may be of lighting or motorized.

By means of specified SMS we can operate door of prohibited areas so that no any other person can able to enter in that.

Page 15: INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION AND SECURITY SYSTEM BASED ON

As a security system we can protect from Fire/Smoke. Infrared signals transmitting from one end of door and

receiving at other side.

If anybody come across this signals then alarm activated.

Advantages

Reduce Production Cost - A quick return on investment outweighs the initial setup costs. All of the following automation advantages reduce production cost.

Decrease in Part Cycle Time - A lean manufacturing line is crucial for increasing efficiency. Automation system can work longer and faster which increase production rate.

Page 17: INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION AND SECURITY SYSTEM BASED ON

Better Floor Space Utilization - By decreasing a footprint of a work area by automating parts of our production line, we can utilize the floor space for other operations and make the process flow more efficient.

Improved Quality and Reliability- Automation is precise and repeatable. It ensures the product is manufactured with same specifications and process every time. Repairs are few and far behind.

Expected Outcomes Replacing human operators in tasks that involve hard physical

or monotonous work.

Replacing humans in tasks that should be done in dangerous environments. Egs.: fire, space, volcanoes, nuclear facilities, underwater etc.

Making tasks that are beyond the human capabilities such as handling too heavy loads, too large objects, too hot or too cold substances or the requirement to make things too fast or too slow.

Page 20: INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION AND SECURITY SYSTEM BASED ON

Economy improvement: Sometimes and some kinds of automation implies improves in economy of enterprises, society or most of humankind.

For example, when an enterprise that has invested in automation technology recovers its investment.

When a state or country increases its income due to automation like Germany or Japan in the 20th Century or when the humankind can use the internet which in turn use satellites and other automated engines.
