If asking the questions (“to whom”, “for whom”, “to

what”, or “for what”) does not seem to give you the correct answer, try re-writing the sentence. But, be careful that you do not change the meaning of the sentence.

Once you have done this, the Indirect Object Pronoun is at the end of the sentence. It is also preceded by “to” or “for”.

Clarifying phrases used with IOPs Because the pronouns “le” and “les” can

refer to many different things you should use a clarifying phrase with them.

The clarifying phrase consists of “a + name or subject pronoun”.

The phrase is left in the same place it would be in the normal sentence.
