** BANGLADESH. 15105, Oct 8 at 1257, BB in English detectable but very poor. 15505, Oct 8 at 1359, BB fair with IS; ``time`` signal ends at 1359:40, into Urdu (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA. Firedrake [non] CNR1 jamming, Oct 8 before 1400: 16920, very poor with flutter at 1355; none in the 17s 15570, very poor at 1355 with het; also probably 15555 ditto 13970, very poor at 1357; none in the 14s 13830, fair at 1357 12980, very good! with flutter at 1358, unlike all the others, whence? 12910, poor-fair with flutter at 1357 12230, very poor with flutter at 1357 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GERMANY. 21600, Oct 8 at 1300, here`s something new, never heard before on frequent 13m scans around this hour: S Asian language talk and songs, fair peaks but deep fades, stronger than 21610 Spain; 1313 now the music has that suspicious `Christian` touch, and announces Post Box in Kathmandu; then mentions shortwave, Nepali, and meterband; 1315 starting another program, (and another language?), I catch a `` Athmeeya Yatra Radio`` ID, i.e. Gospel for Asia. Now it`s reaching good level, the SSOB even exceeding 21540 Kuwait. HFCC has nothing scheduled on 21600 except Riyadh in Arabic at 12-14, and this is certainly not that, nor has BSKSA ever been active here this season, AFAIK. Nothing at all on 21600 in Aoki, but searching on GFA, at 1300-1315 we find Nepali daily on 15350, along with a huge string of other languages via Nauen, GERMANY, at 1230-1500, and Tuesdays at 1315 into Vadari. EiBi also has GFA on 15350, and only BSKSA on 21600. So I suppose GFA 21600 is ex-15350, as yet unchecked. However, at 1345 recheck, 21600 is off, which it should not have been if intentional. GFA has/had another group of languages on 15390 at 1330-1530, but nothing on any higher band, until now. Maybe testing 13m, as Nepal sunset is circa 1200 now and the high band might hold up that long (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 31 & weaker RF 32 intercity relay, Enid`s only TV station, KXOK-LD continues to be all SNAFU`d with its two subchannels: Oct 8 at 1413 past 1520 UT, 31-2 M - FOX PSIP, so supposed to be Mundo-Fox, is just color bars, seven of them top to bottom --- which hardly any TV station broadcasts intentionally any more, and silent sound. 31-3 is still labeled Azteca but is black and mute. You never know when one or the other of these will axually present the programming. Meanwhile main channel 31-1 continues with TV-OK on RTV network. BTW, the color bars on 31-2 can have aspect ratio changed, while 31-1 and 31-3 are stuck at full-screen only, why? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3905, Oct 8 at 1244, AM carrier here with heavy LSB QRhaM. Straining, it`s JBM with talk, 1248 a bit of music, more talk, but just too weak. At least the hams are slightly to the side tho loquacious. Checking this since Ron Howard reported yesterday that Kavieng had reactivated unexpectedly, announced as for the "anniversary celebration of NBC New Ireland", and he too was hearing it again today, better, at 1153-1302. Says last heard before Oct 7 was July 24, and here`s his audio of Oct 7: https://app.box.com/s/2gel3t8udgq5k1nq5m68 Unknown when exactly the anniversary is or how long this return to 3905 will endure. Note colorful slogan as in WRTH: ``Singaut bilong Drongo`` (BTW, is there *any* similarity between Old Ireland and New, except perhaps being green?). BTW, Ron says 3365 Milne Bay is also back today after several weeks off (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST). ** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 5085, Oct 8 at 0515, the overnight Brother Scare service via WTWW-2 is off. Day frequency 9930 is on circa 1300 // but not synch with 9980 WWCR, what a waste (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** TIBET [non]. 15525, Oct 8 at 1400 silent carrier, then opening V. of Tibet (via MADAGASCAR) at 1400:03; no CNR1 or any other jamming audible. *1408:03 autojump to 15520, also fair and still no jamming audible on either (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific carrier search Oct 8 at 1231 finds only 774, likely Japan, and at 1234 UT, 1053 kHz, likely S Korean jammer. (Also still something on 541 like last evening which I conclude must be of local origin) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** BRAZIL [and non]. 4873 approx., Oct 9 at 0055, spurblob now is just below R. Roraima 4875 so we have to tune to the other side of it. Weak, however, unlike 4885 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** BRAZIL. 4885, Oct 9 at 0055, this is the best S American signal on 60m tonight, presumably R. Clube do Pará, hyper-enthusiasm suitable for a silly ballgame, interrupted by very brief commercials. Always CODAR QRM. This is also the only 60m ZY normally heard overnight (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** BRAZIL [non]. 6135-, Oct 9 at 0057, only a single station here, the one on the lo side, no het, so R. Aparecida must be off, leaving R. Santa Cruz, Bolivia; 6180 RNA, much stronger, is still propagating altho heavily fluttered (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

5

** CHAD. 6165-, Oct 9 at 0057, RNT fair signal and modulation with hilife music, before RHC is on. You never know from one night to the next whether N`Djamena will be 24 hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 4765, Oct 9 at 0113, new R. Progreso SW relay has quickly become just another nuisance from Castro & Castro. It`s mostly music, but lo-fi, sounds like ABBA at the moment. Wolfgang Büschel compared it to Rebelde 5025 and RHC 5040 via remote SDR in Miami 48 hours earlier, and concluded that 4765 is only 8-9 kHz wide and with dropouts lasting about 1/10 of a second; 5025 is 18 kHz wide, much better for music; 5040 is 10-13 kHz wide. Arnie Coro had asked Rich D`Angelo for an mp3 of 4765 off the air so the CE could listen to it; also gave details of the system: it`s a 48-year-old Ukrainian-built Snieg`50, air-cooled 50 kW, plate-modulated ``in pristine condition``! Antenna a Nadenenko-type broadband dipole with ``very nice horizontal and nice vertical radiation patterns``. He also suggests it start earlier at 2300 to include a major newscast. Terry Krueger in Florida says, ``They should just run this 24/7. Some of the daytime Progreso is boring (radio novelas) but when in music mode, the network is mostly very good`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 6165, Oct 9 at 0104, RHC English has started, much louder here here than on undermodulated 6000. Spain should appreciate that for its 5995 CR relay which now has the ACI from Habana (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** EQUATORIAL GUINEA [non]. 15190, Oct 8 at 1919, 1926, 1958 and 2119 chex, no R. Africa audible today; before 1930 there was a JBA carrier, presumably R. Pilipinas. At 1919, propagation was OK from 15140 Oman, but zero from 15540 Kuwait (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDIA. 11985, Oct 9 at 0053, back to abnormal at All India Radio`s Sinhala service --- Delhi-Khampur has fair strength carrier, but no modulation; very heavy flutter makes ``modulation`` of its own. 11740, however, via GOA, Oct 9 at 0053 has presumed Sinhala talk, and 0103 music; with equally heavy flutter. WWV reported: ``The estimated planetary K-index at 0000 UTC on 09 October was 5. Space weather for the past 24 hours has been minor. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G1 level occurred. Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be moderate. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G2 level are expected.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 6010-, Oct 9 at 0058, discussion in Spanish from station on the lo side, het on the hi side. Seems about the news rather than religious, so suspect it`s really Radio Mil, but I can never catch an ID or 4-note jingle around hourtop to clinch it vs La Voz de tu Conciencia, Colombia. Tonite this has a little more edge over the het source than usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6950.7, Oct 9 at 0046 music with heavy het from stronger pirate closer to 6950. John Poet had notified his mailing list at 0018 that The Crystal Ship was being relayed on 6950. Like 24 hours earlier when it was also on this off-frequency. First I made sure the other 6950 station was not local fifth harmonic of 1390 KCRC; this is on 6950.3 or so, and at 0052 IDs as Radio Jamba International, first by M voice, then W. Still clashing at 0101 and 0118. During this porch session with DX-398, 0045-0120 Oct 9, I did not hear any other pirates; too bad the active ones were both in AM and not quite the same frequency. But there were several SSB Spanish ``pescadores`` around 6920-LSB, 6925, 6960 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA [non]. 9775, Oct 9 at 0045 nothing but a JBA carrier nor anything plus/minus 5; further chex including 0106 still lack Radio YHWH as heard 24 hours earlier, and the ACI are greatly attenuated by the CME which hit at 2015 Oct 8: 9780 VOA Sri Lanka poor with flutter, and 9770 Turkey very poor. Spaceweather.com reports: ``CME IMPACT, GEOMAGNETIC STORM: An interplanetary shock wave, possibly the leading edge of a CME, hit Earth's magnetic field on October 8th at approximately 2015 UT (1:15 pm PDT). The impact has sparked a minor (G1-class) geomagnetic storm that could intensify in the hours ahead. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. 1210, Oct 9 at 0122 UT C&W music on good signal again, ``Running Out of Moonlight`` back-announce [not yet!], 0125 KGYN ID. Finally must be back on day pattern 24h instead of night pattern 24h (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

6

** OMAN. 9760, Oct 9 at 0106, RSO with Qur`an, fair with flutter. Exactly 24 hours earlier it was missing, off the air or on wrong frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PERU. 5980, Oct 9 at 0058, R. Chaski carrier and some modulation; on past 0100 when I heard usual jingle, and with everything else going on, did not get back here until 0105:10 to find it`s already off, rather than a minute later as expected, so the timer re-set must have happened today, but not to before 0100. Tomorrow I should be able to extrapolate the re-start time from the new cutoff (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 3370.5-USB, Oct 9 at 0114, MARS ragchew about building a launch pad, from AFA6JY, net call 6M3; then he calls AFA6JL who sounds like a YL, about the nice fall weather. Don`t find any info on their locations; we need a comprehensive MARS callbook (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5110-CUSB, UT Wed Oct 9 at 0107, rock music, 0108 outro as Lou Reed whose sexual preferences were not going to be discussed on the `Fred Flintstone Music Show`. I also heard this a month ago on UT Wed Sept 11, so looks like another regular show missing from the online schedule, like `Marion`s Attic` at 01-02 UT Tuesdays. Another such hole in the sked is UT Friday 01-02; need to monitor then (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 7320, Oct 9 at 0516, big open carrier, and then just-barely-modulated spy numbers alternating with digital bursts. Also barely audible underneath is R. Rossii, which normally has no such QRM. At 0531, still JBM only with longer 5-digit number strings. New frequency for this? RHC itself never uses the 7 MHz band as an international law-abiding station (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 560, Oct 9 at 1200 UT, super-hype voice actor (SHVA) with full ID for XESRD, preceded and followed by gobierno PSAs. Cantú: 560 XESRD La Tremenda +FM 89.3 Santiago Papasquiaro, Dgo. 10,000 1,000 Also CCI from another XE further to the east/south, but nothing from El Norte (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 700, Oct 9 at 1223 UT, adstring mentioning Parral, 1225 dead air with hum slightly growing, which lasts until it finally comes to life again at 1231.5 with more ads, starting to fade; 1234 live announcer discussing béisbol, timecheck, mentions an FM on .3; Cantú: 700 XEGD La Poderosa + FM 90.3 Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. 5,000 1,000 and no doubt the same station as logged several times before on 700 with hummy dead air (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 980, Oct 9 at 1215 UT, competing with KMBZ, I hear ``radio Rosita`` mentioned, tho unlikely a station name, points to XENR in Nueva Rosita, Coahuila. Strangely, Cantú locates it in a nearby town: 980 XENR Radio 980 Melchor Múzquiz, Coah. 5,000 500 [Cantú is unreliable for accents; I had to add the ú as per maps] But IRCA Mexican Log 2012 and WRTH 2013 put it in Nueva Rosita. At least they all agree on the powers. Another town nearby is Sabinas (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SUDAN [non]. 15400, Oct 9 at 0509, Arabic from R. Dabanga atop continuous tone jammer; poor signal, 250 kW 335 degrees from MADAGASCAR but had not been propagating lately. 15550, Oct 9 at 0509, R. Dabanga also audible here and // seems synchronized, but this is 500 kW, 240 degrees from UAE, and not often heard at all here so far off the beam. About same level as 15400, and no jamming audible on 15550. At same time, 15580 VOA via Botswana also audible, and much stronger 15275 DW via Rwanda. But nothing on 15120 from Nigeria or 15190 from Equatorial Guinea (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5830, Oct 9 at 1152, open carrier/dead air from WTWW SFAW service; still/again OC/DA after frequency change to 9479 at 1302 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

I am in the building mood. Does anyone have any ideas on a rotatable SWL antenna? I have tons of wire and stuff to build with. Ernie Hi Ernie,Well, you didn't mention which bands you're primarily interested in, but here are a couple of ideas. 1. A loop antenna, either tunable (like the MFJ units etc), or broadband (untuned). For references I'd highly recommend

8

joining the Yahoo Loop antenna group. There are quite a few ideas in the files area and a lot of knowledgeable people there. It is [email protected] 2. A rotatable dipole, either cut for a single frequency/band, or a 'trapped' version for multiband operation (and for receiving only a single band unit will work well on other bands too). Not as easy to construct as a loop as it will most likely require working with aluminum tubing (or bamboo poles with wire strapped to them). I suggest either the ARRL handbook, or "Google" for "Rotatable Dipole". 3. Finally, Cubical Quads have good directivity and gain, depending on the band (size) can be fairly compact, can be built with bamboo poles and wire, but I'm not sure how well they'd receive for bands they aren't cut for. . . 73 de Phil, KO6BB http://www.qsl.net/ko6bb/ (Web Page) RADIOS: Grundigs: S-350 (~2006) & G6 (~2011). Firedrake [non], CNR1 jamming before 1400 UT Oct 10: nothing heard on the WOOB spots, with degraded propagation, just: 15570 & 15550 with hets on lo sides from V. of Tibet, JBA at 1355 7445, Oct 10 at 1232, CNR1 echo jamming with SAH against RTI Chinese, soon followed by CNR1 theme and CJKT/ZRGD ID. Similar pileup on 7385 also against RTI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA [non]. 13645 // 13650, Oct 10 at 1227, CRI English, an echo apart and about equal poor levels, i.e. southward from Kashgar, EAST TURKISTAN and northwestward from Cërrik, ALBANIA, respectively, both scheduled 11-13 UT; rather unusual to hear CRI 5 kHz apart from itself, but bound to happen on this overkill multi-frequency service. I count 21 SW in use during the 12-13 hour per WRTH 2013 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. See AUSTRALIA for a show about Cuba without Castro ** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 15190, Oct 9 at 1939, R. Africa is on; unfortunately beneath a local wandering DTV cable converter box blob when monitored on the FRG-7 inside. Yet I can still hear a slight het on the hi side, no doubt from R. Inconfidência, Brasil. Via DX-398 on the porch, clearer at 2038 recheck, and sure sounds like Tony Alamo prayerfully mumbling, 2042 with female (child wife?) sidekick reading fanmail, one from San Salvador; and next letter does mention ``Tony Alámo``. So the convicted sex offender serving a 175-year sentence in federal prison is back on SW tnx to Radio Africa, which was the last station he was heard on before its latest 8-month hiatus. Before that he was a welcome client on WWCR, banned only after his final conviction. This site http://www.tonyalamonews.com/ is still being updated in the aftermath, but has little if anything to say about his continuing to broadcast (no doubt now from ancient recordings). May I suggest that people restrain themselves from sending reception reports to R. Africa. Not that we owe Tony Alamo anything, but judging from previous months of silence, interspersed with days of activity, QSL requests could be exhibited as ``proof`` to gullible clients that they are really on the air and with an audience (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1690, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GERMANY. 21600, Oct 10 at 1300, no signal from Gospel for Asia in Nepali via Nauen, as heard Oct 8 1300-1315+ instead of(?) scheduled 15350. Inconclusive whether that was a one-off, as no hi-latitude propagation today (or yesterday), from Europe or Mideast, just 21780 DW Rwanda (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GREECE. 9420, Oct 10 at 0513, blues guitar and YL in English from ER, one of few usable signals on attenuated band (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GUAM. 5765-USB, still no signal detected from AFN, Oct 10 at 1240. Last date heard was Sept 19, by Bob Wilkner and myself (Glenn hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDIA. 11985 // weaker 11740, Oct 10 at 0058, AIR sounds simulcast, so they accomplished the Sinhala service on both frequencies this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 760, Oct 10 at 1201 UT, YL with headlines in Spanish interspersed with rapid beats of single-tone sounders; 1203 over to OM with more detailed news including murders in BCS. Loops N/S and probably from 70/10 kW XEABC in the DF, altho there are three others in that general direxion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 9775, Oct 10 at 0055 a JBA carrier, and after 0100 nothing at all, third night without any Radio YHWH; altho propagation has really degraded since then (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. 1150, Oct 10 at 1214 UT, something else audible with N/S KSAL Salina KS nulled, mentioning local event in Krebs, which is a dead giveaway for KNED, confirmed by the next mention of McAlester. This Okie is too far to be audible on groundwave, as KSAL owns 1150 in the daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PAPUA NEW GUINEA. 3905, Oct 10 at 1242, no signal, not even carrier from Kavieng, so temporary anniversary reactivation over? But poor propagation today, 3925 Japan JBA, and I should have checked an hour earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PERU. 5980, Oct 10 at 0057, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, and CRI/Cuba 5990 is already off which helps a bit. This

time I am monitoring 5980 continually to catch the new cutoff time, which is: 0100:40*. Missed it yesterday, so that means Oct 9 was the reset date to 0100:35*, after having attained 0106:17* on October 8. As I said in DXLD 13-39, ``The last reset was on July 21 as in DXLD 13-30 after it had reached 0105:44* on July 20``. This span was 81 days. So at the same rate, another 81 days later will be December 28. The previous reset was extrapolated to 0059:12* on July 21, so that makes a total span of 7 minutes and 5 seconds = 425 seconds. Divided by 81 = 5.247 seconds per day on average. Using my watch in one-second steps, it`s difficult to estimate to closer than 0.5 second (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** RUSSIA. 5930, Oct 10 at 1241, R. Rossii, Pet/Kam, poor-fair with rock music, and No signal, not even a carrier, on usual // 5940 Magadan --- so that`s off the air, or totally propped-out due to higher-latitude path? From Magadan to Enid, grazes the Arctic Circle between northern edge of Seward Peninsula and Kotzebue, while from Pet-Kam not quite reaches the 60th parallel over SW Alaska. Eclectic American music moves on to ``Danke Shane`` at 1245 (note: must not be pronounced as ``Schön``, just like John Böhner), 1249 Beetles` ``Twist & Shout``, similar to ``La Bamba`` tune, but these are clips with long narrations in Russian about the music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** RUSSIA. 6075, Oct 10 at 1236, poor signal in Chinese, mentions Mei-Guo (America), totally different programing from multiple CNR1 frequencies on 6 MHz and higher bands --- because as Aoki shows, this is VOR, 100 kW due west from Vladivostok-Tavrich site at 10-13 (plus another hour in Mongolian except Sundays). Weaker than weak Australia 6080 next door (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** SUDAN [non]. 15400 // 15550, Oct 10 at 0510, no sign of R. Dabanga or tone jamming; in fact, no signals at all on totally dead 19m band, unlike last night. At 0518, needed to go down to 2500 to hear WWV well, reporting K index was 4 at 0300 and there had been minor geomag storms, G1 level. I couldn`t catch the solar flux number due to robofem`s poor enunciation, but uplooked later it was 113 for 9 Oct (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [non]. 9490, Oct 10 at 1257, VOA Korean with English lesson explaining idiom ``dressed to kill`` (not to be taken literally as it was originally by gangsters), but cut off rudely at 1258* as this TINIAN transmitter at 333 degrees has to QSY to 11935 for another two hours, and the programmers back in Washington make NO allowance for such an interruption. Furthermore, moving from a lower to a higher band later in the local evening makes no sense! More unnecessary IBB frequency jumping, just because they can and to keep the frequency manager busy (but now furloughed??). At least this one does not also make an unneeded site switch (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1690: not finished in time for first airing on WRMI at 0330 UT Thursday Oct 10; instead replayed 1689 as confirmed on webcast. First airing will be Thursday 2101 on WTWW-1 9479; then: UT Fri 0329v on WWRB 5050 UT Sat 0200v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB [Anker Petersen, Denmark, measured 5109.67 on Oct 6] Sat 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio, Germany, 7265-CUSB Sat 1500 on WRMI 9955 Sat 2329v on WTWW-2 9930 [check early! Last week started at 2313] UT Sun 0401 on WTWW-1 5830 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5830, Oct 10 at 1147, open carrier/dead air again from WTWW SFAW service; still so at 1240; at 1259 interrupted only for canned ID, back to OCDA, and no frequency change to 9479 until 1320, still OCDA, and at 1347. Meanwhile, 9930 and 12105 have not come on at all. Another canned ID on 9479 at 1400:25, and kept monitoring until modulation finally kicked in at 1442. During the 9479 OC/DA, at 1352 I was also hearing audio from local 1390 KCRC cutting on and off 12259 --- that off-channel frequency immediately suggesting a relationship with 9479 --- yes, it`s 2780 kHz away, 2 x 1390. The 9479 signal itself was steady (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 980, Oct 10 at 1210 UT, Spanish preacher referencing several 832-area code phone numbers, and looping SSE/NNW so that means Houston, i.e. KQUE, Rosenberg-Richmond, with address in Pasadena, R. Aleluya (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHAD [and non]. 6165-, Oct 11 at 0059, poor carrier in noise level, but characteristic RNT offset to lo side; RHC not yet on, and still not at 0105 tho 6000 has started English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA. Firedrake [non] Oct 11 before 1300: 13970, very poor at 1256 No others heard 12-18 MHz except for traces on the usual 15 MHz inband spots and their hets from V. of Tibet, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 6150, Oct 11 at 0517, RHC English is here instead of 6125! 6150 had been a morning frequency until changed to 6000; apparently still on the roster. Arnie is delivering the first of today`s editorials. // frequencies are normal: 6165, 6060, 6000, 5040. Ivo Ivanov, still monitoring SW in Bulgaria, also noticed this and assumes 6150 was on from 0500 to 0700. On Oct 10, he also found 6000 and 6165 stayed on the air from 07 to 10 in English and Spanish respectively (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also CHAD ** CUBA [and non]. 9390-9540, Oct 11 at 0108, approximate varying extent of irregular pulse jamming bleeding from the wall of noise on 9490 against R. República, which itself is somewhat readable, matching the jamming level at peaks, from site in FRANCE; it`s been mostly inaudible here for months (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** EQUATORIAL GUINEA. 15190, Oct 10 at 2024 check, R. Africa is on with a screamer who is fortunately undermodulated, and not Tony Alámo. 2117 recheck, still on and JBM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGSET) ** FRANCE. 21690, Oct 11 at 1300, 1319, RFI in French, poor signal. I`m thinking that this isn`t usually heard after 1300, altho Aoki & EiBI & HFCC show it all the way from 12 to 20 in three segments: 12-13, 13-17, 17-20 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GERMANY. 21600, Oct 11 at 1259 past 1300, no signal from GFA in Nepali unlike heard a few days ago. Once again today, Europe is finally propagating on 13m from Spain, France, so it further looks like that was an anomaly, now probably back on scheduled 15350 which is not propagating today as usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDIA. 11985, Oct 11 at 0055, AIR Sinhala service from Delhi-Khampur site is instead open carrier/dead air with flutter but fair signal; 0056 a hi-pitched tone starts and falls gradually, then rises. Meanwhile, 11740 via GOA is in talk programming, poor signal and noticeably weaker than 11985 but trumps it by modulating properly, and with about same amount of flutter. 0103 recheck, 11985 still OC/DA, but 0104 cuts on music so I then switch to 11740 and find it has been silent, but soon brings up the same music. Why is it so difficult for AIR to run these two reliably?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 610, Oct 11 at 1203 UT ``Sabinas al Día`` morning news, ``aquí en la región carbonita`` (coal-mining area), mixing more with KCSP Kansas City than with XEGS in Guasave, Sinaloa, which usually dominates a bit later. Cantú: 610 XEBX La Primera Sabinas, Coah. 5,000 500 Have not yet heard ``La Primera`` slogan as also in WRTH, IRCA (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 700, Oct 11 at 1224 UT, ``La Poderosa`` ID and romantic song; earlier there was some hum, but no big deadair pause today from: 700 XEGD La Poderosa + FM 90.3 Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. 5,000 1,000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO [and non]. 720, Oct 11 at 1209 UT, studio talk show pauses for Grupo Radio Centro plug, romantic song in English, loops WSW, so no doubt the only Mexican in the northwest, per Cantú: 720 XEJCC Extremo 7-20 Cd. then mixing with another Spanish station much further east which I can still hear by nulling the first one, but that`s not XEDE in Saltillo now, instead KSAH Universal City TX, since San Antonio mentioned, and 1216 UT ad in Spanish for A-1 Car Stereo, on I-10, and also has 877- toll-free number. KSAH is listed with ESPN Deportes, but this may have been a local show as well as local ads (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6940-AM, Oct 10 at 2313, pirate with music, including whistling, detectable in noise level. Must be R. Casablanca per direct tip from Rick who said he would be on starting at 2300. Next check at 0053 Oct 11, I can tell it`s still on, but storm noise level is very heavy from the line along the Kansas/Colorado border extending into the OK and TX Panhandles. 0106 I can tell the music is small-band from the era of the `40s, but way too much noise. 6925, Oct 11 at 0107, AM carrier here, maybe another pirate tuning up but not modulating yet, vs SSB on the sides (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 9775, Oct 11 at 0057 looking for Radio YHWH again, but only a JBA carrier, no ACI yet; at 0102 the ACI is on from both sides, and not even the JBA carrier now. Perhaps Friday night = Sabbath will bring it back (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PERU. 5980, Oct 11 at 0055, JBA carrier in noise level from R. Chaski, until cutoff at 0100:46*, six seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** RUSSIA. 5940, Oct 11 at 1240, R. Rossii, Magadan, poorly audible with jazz // much stronger 5930 Petropavlovsk/Kamchatsky. 24 hours earlier, Magadan was inaudible, but higher-latitude paths are now recovering somewhat (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1690 monitoring: confirmed first airing on WTWW-1, 9479, Thursday Oct 10 starting at 2101:45. Confirmed second airing on WWRB, first on webcast UT Friday Oct 11 starting at 0328, in abrupt cut from preacher to WOR opening in progress. Also on 5050 at 0348 check, when WWRB signal is almost as strong as 5085 WTWW, and stronger than Cuba 5040 (dead air), and 5025. Next: UT Sat 0200v on Area 51 via WBCQ 5110v-CUSB; Sat 0630 & 1430 on HLR 7265-CUSB; Sat 1500 on WRMI 9955; Sat 2329v on WTWW-2 9930; UT Sun 0401v on WTWW-1 5830 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5085, Oct 11 at 0058 check, WTWW-2 is off, no BS. WTWW-1, 5830 is on; and WTWW-3, 12105 is probably off or not propagating. 0348 recheck, now 5085 is on (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5110-CUSB, UT Fri Oct 11 at 0100, WBCQ poor in hi noise level, but speaker seems to have a Brit or Oz accent, something about Christian media, so we are not missing anything with this particular filler (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. 720, Oct 11 at 1209 UT, studio talk show pauses for Grupo Radio Centro plug, romantic song in English, loops WSW, so no doubt the only Mexican in the northwest, per Cantú: 720 XEJCC Extremo 7-20 Cd. Juárez, Chih. 1,000 1,0000 [sic] then mixing with another Spanish station much further east which I can still hear by nulling the first one, but that`s not XEDE in Saltillo now, instead KSAH Universal City TX, since San Antonio mentioned, and 1216 UT ad in Spanish for A-1 Car Stereo, on I-10, also has 877- toll-free number. KSAH is listed with ESPN Deportes, but this may have been a local show as well as local ads (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 880, Oct 11 at 1230 UT, talk in Navajo with some English terms thrown in; therefore, KHAC Window Rock AZ/Tse Bonito NM. May have been a bit of Spanish too, soon losing to English religion, probably KLRG; while KRVN keeps nulled 90 degrees away (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 6035, Oct 11 at 1248, very poor signal, can`t make out any modulation. Most likely PBS Yunnan, China as scheduled 50 kW in Vietnamese, rather than BBS Bhutan with 100 kW in Dzonkha, but not active much lately, at least not at full power (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

S.O.S from a Private Radio Museum in Uruguay. It has been censored by local Ministry of Culture in a recent Heritage Day proposed activity. An unfortunate case of censorship occured in the celebration of the last Heritage Day in Uruguay, (Oct 5 & 6), from DICYT, which is the government body that matters of Innovation, Science and Technology (under the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay). The First Living Museum of Radio and Communications of Uruguay "Gral. Artigas", created in 1991 by collector and researcher Antonio Tormo (who preserves a valuable amount of 1,800 pieces in relation with the history of radio and communications) was banned to display some of its items in a projected participation organized in coordination and by invitation from the National Museum of Anthropology (NMA). In that occasion, Tango music and its expressions were to be honored by the audition and exhibition of big old Victrola discs with tangos with the purpose that visitors could dance with that particular tango record as a tangible evidence of the past. Different and simultaneous events took over the entire weekend honoring Tango as a cultural expression this year. Just a few days before the event, Lic. Gabriel Aintablián (director of DICYT), sent an internal communication to the National Museum of Anthropology (NMA) and without further explanation or justification, prohibiting the use of any item from the Radio Museum, which has been allocated in their building for years, since it hasn't found a proper place for public exhibiton. Tormo's Radio Museum has been fighting for public support since he has no material possibilities to open an own exhibition place, without positive answer. The collections have been set up to be withdrawn before next Dec. 31. (Horacio Nigro, President of the Supporting Commitee of "Primer Museo Viviente de la Radio y las Comunicaciones del Uruguay, Gral Jose Artigas", Montevideo, Uruguay).

** ALASKA. 21305-USB, Oct 11 at 1959 after getting Guyana on 21320, here`s a better signal, George in Wasilla, Alaska, where it`s 42 degrees and no hurry to move on from a conversation with a station in Queens NY. George has a greenhouse, and is a competitive pistol-shooter, finally ID as KL7GS. QRZ.com: KL7GS , GEORGE C STROTHER, 5935 E. Tex-Al Drive, WASILLA, AK 99654 USA Say hello to Sarah (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ALBANIA [and non]. 9850, Oct 12 at 0125, R. Tirana IS again has QRM from noisy spur out of 9860 WHRI (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ARGENTINA. 28497-USB, Oct 11 at 2011, LU6HK calling CQ in English. LU6HK Eduardo Jorge Areal, Av. Nores Martínez 3045., 5016 Córdoba, Argentina Per QRZ.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** BRAZIL. 10000, Oct 12 at 0103, pips every 10 seconds and continuous talk between them, I can`t make out under WWV/WWVH, but surely the MO of PPE in Rio de Janeiro; no music so not ``Italcable`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 15230, Oct 11 at 1948, open carrier, good steady signal, surely RHC turning on the transmitter way ahead of scheduled 2200 in Portuguese (I can`t believe how often I see this misspelt ``Portugese``), or maybe they never turned it off after Spanish finished at 1500? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** EQUATORIAL GUINEA [and non]. 15190, Oct 11 at 1947, R. Africa is on, very poor in English with gospel huxter (what else?); (meanwhile Nigeria DRM is blasting around 15120). Still very poor at 2014 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also KUWAIT ** GREECE. 9420 // 7475, good and fair, Oct 12 at 0113 classical music as Ellenike Radiophonia as usual relays the Third Program during this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GUYANA. 21320-USB, Oct 11 at 1955, pileups of US stations indicate some hot DX is here. He`s relatively weak and the call-attempts never mention his call, just their own, so I have to keep listening for a while to copy the DX giving his own call; from Georgetown, Guyana, finally at 1959: 8R1Z. I had first scanned the ``13m`` broadcast band, to find absolutely nothing. Obviously it could have been put to good use if any stations with more than 100 times the power of hams cared to, or still existed, like Bonaire and French Guiana. Or KNLS: see ALASKA. Then I found 12 and 10m also open (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDIA. 11985 // 11740, Oct 12 at 0056, AIR Sinhala service is really parallel on both at the moment tonight, both poor with flutter, but a bit of echo on 11985 from Khampur (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** IRAN. 12081.5 approx., Oct 11 at 2017, poor signal in Arabic, and wavering a bit as I listen with BFO. It`s IRIB`s 13-hour transmission, now starting at 1623 per Aoki, 500 kW, 289 degrees from Zahedan --- likely the same transmitter Dave Valko had on 15151.35, 7 Oct at 1146; and Wolfgang Büschel had on 15151.349, Oct 9 at 0825 – so maybe it was really closer to 12081.35. 7295, Oct 12 at 0114, Turkic language on poor signal, main QRM being an AM ham on 7291 rather than SSB. Aoki shows it must be VIRI in Tajik, 0053-0220, 500 kW, 46 degrees from Sirjan (followed by 0223-0247 Uzbek via Kamalabad) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** KUWAIT [and non]. 15540, Oct 12 at 1949, R. Kuwait has very good signal with rock music! Yesterday and most days recently it was inaudible. The MUF must have got a bump today. So keep checking. I compare to some other signals: 15140 Oman is a JBA carrier, less than something on 15130 = R Japan oppositeward from FRANCE. 15115-15125, DRM from NIGERIA is very strong; 15580 VOA BOTSWANA is good [before switch to Greenville at 20-21]; WEWN 15610 is blasting in with spurs, q.v. 15540 at 2013 has one of their Islamic-history shows with W&M narrators about Arafat, pilgrims, still good signal. By now 17550 in Arabic to C&W NAm has started up, but it is much weaker, with deep fades from fair to very poor (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

16

** MAURITANIA [and non]. 783, Oct 12 at 0053, one of only two JBA TA carriers below 1200 is here, loops ENE, which fits for the 50 kW IGIM, rather than other 783s: The Great Circle Distance Calculator for Enid to Nouakchott shows: 8128 km at 80 degrees. Those with fancy fixed antennas can`t get an idea of the bearing like I can with the hand-held DX-398 on the porch. 882 is the other one, maybe the 20 kW COPE in the Canary Islands, if active (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 9775, Oct 12 at 0101 and a few later chex, it`s the Sabbath and still no repeat appearance of Radio YHWH, between 9770 Turkey and 9780 Sri Lanka (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6945-USB, Oct 12 at 0118, YL black torch singer tunes, must have just come on, or was in a pause a minute earlier when I tuned across. Good signal and modulation, and fortunately hits very close to one of the 40-Hz steps on the DX-398 BFO. ``Nobody Knows You When You`re Down and Out`` is playing; 0120 segue to ``Write Myself a Letter``; 0124 another; 0126 quick ID ``Wolverine Radio`` and more music, ``When my Sugar Walks Down the Street``. Recheck 0217, still going with more music of that genre. Very enjoyable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PERU. 5980, Oct 12 at 0056, JBA carrier from R. Chaski, bad splash from China/Cuba 5990. Clear cutoff at 0100:51* which is 5 seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** SAINT HELENA. 24943-USB, Oct 11 at 2004, pileups trying to contact weak station. I have to listen to call after call from USA, till finally at 2009 I make out Peter, ZD6FT, I thought, but it must have been ZD7FT, as in http://www.qrz.com/db/ZD7FT ZD7FT Peter Constantine, PO. Box 33, Jamestown, St. Helena Island, South Atlantic Ocean, STHL 1ZZ, St Helena Island (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** TAIWAN [non]. 9265, Oct 12 at 0200, WINB ID and starting another gospel-huxter, from Denver, Pennsylvania, instead of new experimental broadcast to N America publicized by PCJ Radio, Taiwan on UT Saturdays at 02-03. Denver PA correlates with the program originally and still on the Sept 22 WINB schedule for 10 pm EDT Friday: `Reality in Jesus, with James McCoy``. Kept an ear on it the following hour, and still no-show PCJ; 0230 went to a screaming gospel-huxter, presumably ``Resurrected Church of Jesus Christ Int.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. WINB: see TAIWAN [non] ** U S A [and non]. 15628, Oct 11 at 1950, squishy second-order spurblob out of 15610 WEWN is QRMing weak signal from GREECE on 15630. This becomes audible whenever the fundamental is inblasting, and along with it the first-order spurs at half the displacement, approx. plus and minus 9 kHz, on 15601 and 15619 which are much stronger and would ruin anything attempting to use 15600 or 15620, but nothing scheduled on them at the moment per Aoki. WEWN has been doing this for years and years, and nobody cares (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 7506.4, Oct 12 at 0112, `The Haven` with local mention of being on WRNO.com and on SW ``7505``, not only Fridays 8 pm, but now repeated Saturdays at 10 am [CDT; then surely not on SW], and also plugging an app for it. Then M&W converse about healing, which some people believe in, and some do not. I guess they mean faith-healing, and guess which side they are on? WRNO SW now attains very good signal and modulation if not frequency accuracy and rationality (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1690 monitoring. Confirmed on Area 51 webcast, UT Saturday Oct 12 at 0201; and also heard on 5110v-CUSB at 0217 check. Next: Saturday 0630 & 1430 on Hamburger Lokalradio 7265-CUSB (Europeans, please confirm; back on main antenna?); Saturday 1500 on WRMI 9955; Saturday 2329v on WTWW-2 9930 (tune in early! Last week started at 2313); UT Sunday 0401 on WTWW-1 5830 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** UZBEKISTAN. 11600, Oct 12 at 0106, no signal from TWR India via Tashkent, which per Aoki is scheduled 0030-0115 daily, extended to 0130 on Sun-Mon-Tue-Wed for Dzonka to Bhutan; otherwise Bengali, Hindi, Bhojpuri, and on Saturdays only at 0045-0115, Nepali. But must not be on the air now, since I am still getting on neighbor 11590, NHK Hindi via Tashkent (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** ZANZIBAR. 11735, Oct 11 at 2016, poor signal with music, must be ZBC. Maybe it will improve as we move later into fall and/or the hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 541.2, Oct 12 at 0051, carrier hetting 540 stations. I am still not quite certain whether this is a local device, or perhaps a real station, off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ALBANIA [and non]. 9515, Oct 12 at 0543, Arab music, very poor while // 9590 is a JBA carrier, i.e. CRI at 05-07 via Cërrik, 240 and 140 degrees respectively. Would expect 9590 to be better here, closer to directly off the back. Strangely, Algeria-via-France 9535 normally much stronger, is much weaker than 9515, and at first I wondered if that had moved to 9515 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

18

** BANGLADESH. 15105, Oct 12 just as I tune in Bangladesh Betar at 1240, it dumps off the air for about a minute, resuming in English and nice local music, poor with heavy flutter. 15505, Oct 12 at 1357, BB carrier is VP with flutter; 1358 IS; timesignal is JBA ending at 1400:02.5 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA. 9645, Oct 12 at 1150, major Western piano concerto, fair signal, and // 9540 poor; 1155 interrupted! for Cantonese announcement, so it`s CRI, both via Beijing site, at 215 and 142 degrees respectively per Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CHINA. Firedrake [non] CNR1 jamming Oct 12, before 1400: 12500, very poor at 1351 Except for inband traces on 15 MHz, no others found 12-18 MHz (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA [and non]. 6125, Oct 12 at 0548, RHC English is back on proper frequency instead of jump to 6150, 24 hours earlier, and // usual 6165, 6060, 6000, 5040. Token broadcast of Austrian classical music on 6155 is again unimpeded (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** GUATEMALA. 4055, Oct 12 at 1141, Chinese talk backed up by dramatic music, probably something Biblical, as R. Verdad reproves it is multi-lingual. Earlier around 0550 I heard Dr. Madrid in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** INDIA. 15040, Oct 12 at 1245-1305 enjoying nice music from AIR Burmese service, poor-fair, via Bengaluru, and better than 15105 BB. BTW, don`t you believe the MYANMAR heading for a previous log of this in Oct NASWA Journal: my quick correxion didn`t make it. The editor also made some strange ``correxions`` to my other logs such as the next one on 15105, ``R. Pyranga`` (trying for Pyongyang?) instead of Voice of Korea (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 680, Oct 12 at 1211 UT, timecheck for 6:12, phone numbers; 1212 now it`s ``6:14`` so the studio clock must be a sesquiminute fast; then guy on the phone with detailed ``estado del tiempo`` weather forecast for the entire nation; must have mentioned every state, until 1220 finally gets to ``nuestra región del Pacífico norte``, outro as named Rodríguez; 1221 ``desde Guasave, Sinaloa, Noticias en Punto --- Multimedios``. Then on to a report on ``estado de fresas`` --- strawberries?? They are measured in cubic meters, ``almacenados`` with impressive flow rates --- oh, it`s about *presas* = dams and their storage and release capacity, etc. at 1223. Cantú: 680 XEORO La Mera Jefa + FM 93.7 Guasave, Sinaloa 1,000 500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 700, Oct 12 at 1225 UT, choral NA is playing at odd time; 1226 bit of a song about Chihuahua and Parral, then ID for ``XEGD, La Poderosa``, and also FM on 90.3, ``sistema combo``; full name of city ``Hidalgo del Parral`` is rarely heard. Hidalgo means noble or aristocrat, but probably derived here from name of an historical figure. This station habitually gets off to a rough start in the mornings, with dead air, hum, variable sign-ons, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 780, Oct 12 at 1206 UT, full ID for ``La Poderosa``, ``25 años sirviendo a la región``, XESFT, also FM 103.7, ``Grupo Radiorama, la cadena que une a México``, then live show about Tamaulipas. Cantú: 780 XESFT La Triple T + FM 103.7 San Fernando, Tamps. 5,000 1,000 Did not hear the ``Triple T`` slogan mentioned, but maybe missed it. This with KSPI Stillwater OK completely nulled, and it`s too late for WBBM to be a problem (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 810, Oct 12 at 1228 UT, rough hum loops NE/SW, overcome at *1229 by WHB KC as it pops onto day power and pattern, but can still hear the hum for a while. Only two XEs in the NW part of the country: 810 XESB Radio Mexicana +FM 94.9 Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. 1,000 1,000 810 XERSV Tribuna Radio Cd. Obregón, Son. 5,000 D per Cantú, so XESB is most likely. Altho KXOI, Crane (Odessa) TX is on the way with Spanish religion (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 900, Oct 12 at 1202 UT, federal PSAs, ID only as ``900``, 1203 teléfonos en cabina 83-77-97-73 y 83-79-88-39 for call-ins to live show from Iglesia de --- Impacto. Googling on Mexican phone numbers is usually unproductive and so are these, but there is an Iglesia de Alto Impacto of the Disciples of Christ in Monterrey NL, as I already strongly suspect this is XEOK, OK? You might think http://radioacir.net would go to network HQ in the DF, but it`s axually XEOK`s own page, and displays the two phone numbers at the bottom, except 83-77-95-73 instead of the -97- I must have miscopied.

(Why didn`t USA just go to 8-digit local phone numbers, immediately dekamating the availabilities, rather than messing with overlaying more and more area codes, requiring 10-digit dialing??) Beware: website autolaunches audio whether wanted or not. 73s Guido

** BRAZIL [and non]. 4874, Oct 13 at 0055, approx. center of wandering blob vs 4875 Rdif. Roraima, so need to hear it on USB. 4885, Oct 13 at 0142, fair signal with romantic music, presumed R. Clube do Pará. I notice that there are CODAR swishes when listening on USB, while there are none at all on LSB (but a fleeting lite ``running water`` ute) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA [and non]. 12060, Oct 13 0119, grinding jammer vs station in Spanish. So the DentroCuban jamming command is not only hitting R. Martí on 6030, but La Voz de Rusia via ARMENIA on its second harmonic! 6000, Oct 13 at 0128, English here is not from RHC, but CRI! // 9580 and synchronized, as the RadioCuba operators have got their wires crossed again. RHC English is at least on 6165. There can only be a finite number of possible errors, and RHC is racking them up, one by one (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** DIEGO GARCIA. 12759-USB, Oct 13 at 0117, AFN is barely making it, very poor signal with music; 0136 it`s better with some talk and rock music. Unless the government shutdown has modified it, manager gave me schedule last month that on Sunday mornings there are no relays of the local FM outlet, so presumably plugged into some network service now. At least this confirms it`s still on the air, unlike Guam (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** EAST TURKISTAN [and non]. 11870, Oct 13 at 0121, CRI English mixing about equally with WEWN Spanish. This hour only, it`s 173 degrees from Kashgar. 11870 is also subject to breakthru of the second harmonic of 5935 WWCR, from receiver overload if not axual radiation, but not at the moment (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) See also CUBA ** INDIA. 11985 // 11740, Oct 13 at 0054, AIR Sinhala service is on both tonight and about equal level (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** IRAN. 12080.0, Oct 13 at 0119, Qur`an, fair-good with flutter, so IRIB is back on-frequency, in the same 1620-0520 UT transmission I logged Oct 11 at 2017 on 12081.5, listed as Zahedan site. Meanwhile, Wolfgang Büschel had notified IRIB of his logs of the other 15150-off frequency transmission and forwarded my log, so this may have caused it to be fixed (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6965-AM, Oct 13 at 0057, sounds like ``Peter Gunn`` theme vamping, but turns into something else. Best signal by far of all the pirates tonite, but 0101.5 announcement with music background is a bit undermodulated; mentions ``broadcasting under the stars this evening``, ``second week of October``, ``cat`s fur is starting to change color``, musing on Xmas, fall and Hallowe`en. 0103 address [email protected] and always welcomes reports on FRN, FRC, HF Underground; live timecheck as 4 minutes after 1 o`clock; `` no new music tonight but some slower stuff``; acknowledges a report on HFU; ID as ``XFM, the Power of X``, intro Red Hot Chili Peppers, but first where`s the liner? ``Broadcasting in C-Quam stereo from the United States to the World on shortwave, this is XFM, music to the power of X`` is asserted. Still going at 0110 and later chex till I quit at 0140 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-AM, Oct 13 at 0058, another pirate, but very poor with SSB QRM; 0107 says going to shut down very shortly, gives e-mail which presumably includes an ID but I can`t copy it in the noise; says will be back tomorrow or the next day. Now there is no QRM. ``Have a good evening, all``, e-mail again and again can`t copy it; 0109 music, goes off at 0114*. Maybe this was MAC Shortwave per numerous logs on HF Underground starting at 2257 Oct 12, but none yet posted later than 0033 Oct 13 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6925-AM, Oct 13 at 0058, weak signal music mixing with SSB QRM (``peskies`` to the HFU folk); 0135 still too weak. HF Underground posts name it Radio Free Whatever (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6940-RCDSB, Oct 13 at 0106 announces 6-9-4-0 as I tune in, music; 0112 talking and weird vocal SFX. 0113 synthetic YL says ``coming up next is Radio Jamba International``. SSB tuning helps as the carrier is somewhat reduced, but on both sidebands equally. 0130 it`s better with drumming but some audio interruptions; 0133 strange/strained voices ranting about Microsoft, pancakes, basketball, pork rinds, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NORTH AMERICA. 9775, Oct 13 at 0111 and a couple more chex, still no more show from Radio YHWH. Wonder if they are using other frequencies? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** PERU. 5980, Oct 13 at 0052, R. Chaski carrier with heavy splash from 5990 CRI via Cuba; cuts off at 0100:56.5* which is 5.5 seconds later than yesterday (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1690 monitoring: excellent signal confirmed starting at 2329:05 Saturday Oct 12 on 9930 WTWW-2, following some gospel music. Next: UT Sunday 0401v on 5830 WTWW-1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 7555, Oct 13 at 0124, KJES is missing on this UT Sunday. It was on last night, in Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 7490, Oct 13 at 0124, WBCQ is off the air. Online schedule still shows `VSI Radio International`, at 01-02 UT Sundays, but some weeks ago Paul Lambert told us he was going back to Wednesdays, expecting a larger audience, but at what time? Brother Scare usage of 7490 skips Saturdays/UT Sundays, with the only other show currently listed being `Heart & Soul of America`, Sat 23-01 Sun. Lots of good airtime going to waste. Checking 9330 and 5110, those are on the air as usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 0343 UT Oct 13 ** U S A. 7506.4, Oct 13 at 0125, WRNO is on and so strong that it`s putting modulation spike spurs from 7485 or so to 7524 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** UZBEKISTAN. 11730, Oct 13 at 0122, S Asian language, good with flutter, and slight hum. As previously reported by Digit.ru, March 14, stopped broadcasting on longwave and medium wave radio station Mayak after which the station can be heard only in a few dozen cities, where works few transmitters on FM. Deputy General Director Sergei Arkhipov of VGTRK confirmed plans on switching off broadcasting Radio Russia on long wave and to reduce broadcasts on medium wave. He said that Radio Russia in the NE will be turned off where the radio station is broadcasting on shortwave and FM. Reduction of broadcasting will happen, according to Arkhipov, due to the decreased of funding of VGTRK in 2014. (Ivan Lebedevsky, St. Petersburg, Russia) Shortwave Central - Wednesday, October 09, 2013 The future for Voice of Russia In recent months, there have been reports in the radio hobby press, that Voice of Russia plans to discontinue shortwave broadcasting this year. Following a query to my contacts at the station, I received the following response today. Dear Ms. Van Horn, Thank you very much for your letter. At the moment, the Voice of Russia continues to broadcast on all the frequencies, including shortwave ones. The station has been broadcasting on these frequencies since the beginning of 2013. The only exception was made to AM frequency 1430 kHz in New York where the broadcasting was stopped due to poor quality of transmission. As far as shortwave broadcasting is concerned, there are many plans for its further development. However, I can neither confirm nor deny mass media reports relating to the claims that the Voice of Russia is to discontinue shortwave broadcasting. Besides, I cannot give you any details regarding this matter since no decision has been made yet. Thank you very much for your letter. I look forward to further cooperation with you in the future. Must be pre-sunrise there as it is here (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 1210, Oct 13 at 0603 UT, Mexican praise music, with KGYN OK inaudible again, back on proper night pattern for a change?? 0604, lengthy IDs pronounced in English for network of stations starting with KUBR 1210, and going as far as Deming NM, including FM translators (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 1230, Oct 13 at 0608 UT, `Coast to Coast AM` opening hour with usual phone-numbers, is slightly atop the graveyard pileup. Hard to get a bearing, but seems NNE/SSW give or take. Could it be my nearest 1230, WBBZ Ponca City OK, normally buried at night? So I start checking this and other possible states to the north and south on the C2C affiliate list website. NO 1230s listed in: OK, ND, SD, WY, NE, MO, KS, IA, TN, MS, LA. So that leaves these possibilities: KWTX Waco TX, KBTM Jonesboro AR, WJBC Bloomington IL, KTRF Thief River Falls MN, KWNO Winona MN, KEXO Grand Junxion CO --- any of which would be a good graveyard catch. But I suppose it could still be WBBZ as own website does not account for anything in the overnight hours: http://www.wbbz.com/schedule.htm Sometime I should try their webcast after midnite (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

A preliminary HFCC B13 schedule, which starts October 27, was posted early Sunday morning (ENA time) at the HFCC website - see http://www.hfcc.org/data/b13/b13allx2.zip . I probably need to redo my calculations to be sure I didn't miss something, but it seems the B13 schedule has, at the start of the season, about 10% more weekly hours than currently scheduled in A13. That doesn't mean all of the scheduled transmissions are, or will be, on the air. 96.7 Vale Verde FM, Cesario Lange SP, 09/10 1017.
