Conoscereis used when you know people and places. It is conjugated regularly. Sapereis used when you know facts.Saperefollowed by an infinitive meansto know how. In addition, the object must be expressed in Italian when using sapere. You cannot simply sayI knowas in English, but ratherI know it:Lo so.
Io conosco Mario.I know Mario.
Voi conoscete la Francia. You know (have visited) France.
Tu sai nuotare. You know how to swim.
Loro sanno cantare. They know how to sing.

One of the other wayssaperegets used is to mean:
to know how to.
Io posso dire: Lucasa nuotare.
For example, I may say, "Lucaknows how to swim."
Here are some additional examples of this meaning. It should be mentioned that in this case, sapereacts like a modal verb, such as can, must, may, etc. Remember that with modal verbs, there is no preposition before the infinitive.
Nonsoparlarespagnolo(I dontknow how to speakSpanish).

A compound tense -that uses the helping verb avere and a past participle
How to form a past participle:
Compound tenses such as thepassato prossimoare formed with the present indicative of the auxiliary verbavereoressereand the past participle (participio passato). The past participle of regular verbs is formed by dropping the infinitive ending-are,-ere, or-ireand adding the appropriate final ending:-ato,-uto, or-ito(see tables below).
USING AUXILIARY VERB (helping verb) AVERE
The appropriate tense ofavereoressere(called the auxiliary or helping verbs) and the past participle of the target verb forms the verb phrase.
Avere is used in a myriad of grammatical and linguistic situations. Learning the many conjugations and uses of the verb is crucial to the study of the Italian language.
In general, transitive verbs are conjugated with avere. Transitive verbs express an action that carries over from the subject to the direct object:The teacher explains the lesson.
The past participle is invariable when the passato prossimo is constructed with avere.
