BITS organized a two days National level seminar on “Smart Cities: Current Scenario and future challenges” on 24 -25 March - 2017
Smart City mission, intended to transform the lives and living conditions of the citizens of the country, is
the topic at hype in this age. Honourable Prime Minster Shree Narendra Modi is working rigorously in this
direction aiming to develop hundred cities all over the country. Under such innovative atmosphere, BITS
Edu Campus - Vadodara organized a two days National level seminar on “Smart Cities: Current Scenario
and future challenges” on 24th -25th March - 2017. The event carried an applaudable objective of provid-
ing a common platform for the government officials, semi government officials, faculty members, research
scholars, students, consultants, industrial people to come together and exchange their views on this most
demanding topic of the era.

According to the latest news, the Union Urban Development Minister
Venkaiah Naidu has announced the top 10 clean cities of the country.
According to the ranking, the first name is Indore, which is considered
as the cleanest city in the country.

Traffic issue to be resolve in Chennai Smart City project
After a delay of two years, the Chennai smart city project is finally
going to start in year 2017. Main aim under Chennai smart city project
will be in focussing on traffic issues in the state Under the project .
Congested commercial hub T Nagar will be the first to be cured under

After poor Swachh ranking, LMC to fast-track Smart City projects
LUCKNOW: After failing miserably in Swachh Bharat Survekshan 2017, divisional commissioner has
asked Lucknow Municipal Corporation to fast-track the Smart City project. LMC has been limping so far
to put the smart city project on track and has been asked to speed up the process and complete individual
DPRs of various Smart City projects before June 25, the anniversary of Smart City Mission.

Union government seeks expansion plans for smart cities
HYDERABAD: With the Swachh Survekshan 2017 rankings out of the way, states will now have to get
down to the task of preparing urban expansion plans for smart cities as directed by the Union government.
The Centre has evolved a new sub-scheme for taking up urban expansion plans with the help of master
plans and GIS-based plans for the selected smart cities and all the capital cities. The state governments
have to send their proposals by the end of this month and prepare these plans in the next two or three

New Delhi: Regulator FSSAI has proposed widening the ambit of smart cities by incorporating food man-
agement system into it to ensure safe and nutritious food consumed by citizens.
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Urban Development Ministry on May 2
organised a workshop on 'Food Smart Cities' to discuss its framework and methodology for rollout. Senior

Canberra trials new city mobility option: e-bike sharing
An apartment building in a Canberra suburb is the stage for what has
been referred to as Australia's first electric bike sharing program trial
involving a residential building. In a piece appearing in the Newcastle
Herald, Bykko founder and managing director Monica Zarafu outlined
the program, its compatibility with city mobility and the potential for

New toolkit to help smart cities be more accessible
A new toolkit has been launched to help cities implement smart city programmes that benefit all citizens,
including people with disabilities and older persons.
The toolkit is a result of the Smart Cities for All initiative led by G3ict (Global Initiative for Inclusive
ICTs) and World Enabled, with the support of Microsoft.
A survey of more than 250 experts worldwide, conducted as part of the toolkit, found that 60 percent of
them feel that smart cities are failing persons with disabilities and older persons. Only 18 percent of the
