Request for Proposals (RFP) for Conversion of available e-contents in various regional languages National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (NMEICT) is working to leverage the potential of ICT to provide high quality, personalized and interactive knowledge modules over the internet/intranet for all the learners in Higher Education Institutions in an any time any where mode. As part of this initiative, e-contents for all subjects at undergraduate and post-graduate levels are being developed, a low cost computing cum access device called ‘Aakash’ has been developed and last-mile connectivity of all premier higher education Institutions and universities is being established for delivery of e-Contents to all faculty and students. Considerable work has been done under NPTEL (National Programme in Technology Enhanced Learning) by IITs, IISc and other partner institutions for creation of e-Content for UG and PG courses in engineering and physical sciences. Additionally, more course contents, tutorials and virtual labs are being created in other disciplines like arts, commerce, humanities, etc. Having made considerable collection of e-Content, now the stage has come to achieving the Mission objectives pertaining to Conversion of available e- contents in various regional languagesare yet to be achieved. This could be done either through translation of the text or audio content developed in English or any other language or a de-novo development of the content in regional language – closely following the content, pedagogy and manner of presentation of the original. Subject experts who know the regional languages would be required for translation of certain topics. Dubbing/ sub- titling of the available e-Contents in the regional languages appropriately could be also considered, where the subject justifies so. The Mission Director (NMEICT) invites preliminary proposals to address the above challenge of Conversion of available e-contents in various regional languages in the higher education from the interested Government/ autonomous organizations, language research laboratories, translation agencies in education sector at national level and other expert agencies with demonstrated experience in educational content translation in regional languages. The proposals may be uploaded on Sakshat Portal for being discussed by the Standing Committee of the Mission to recommend for carrying them forward further. A copy of the uploaded proposal with associated Control Number may also be emailed to [email protected] with cc to [email protected]
