  Innovation Day - Keep On Moving

Creative, inclusive and good value ways of working

 A day to celebrate the fantastic work happening in InclusionNorth Member Area’s that supports the inclusion of people withLearning Disabilities and their families

Following our successful Innovation Day inNewcastle in December, we are holding a secondsession in York, 7th February 2013:

This session will give people the chance to hear aboutgreat work from across Yorkshire and Humber. Someexamples of this include:

Leeds: Community LeadershipSheffield: Right Decision at the Right time in self Directed SupportBradford: Support Planning Champions

 And more… 

York Event7th February, York 10am  – 3pm

This event is free to Inclusion North member areas. People

from non member areas or provider organisations can buyplaces at a small cost.

Each area can send 5 people. Please sign up now.

People from non member groups can attend either ofthese events at a cost of £50 per person if places areavailable.

North East Health Groups

Inclusion North and NHS North East invite family carers and

people with learning disabilities to give their views about healthservices and hear what work has been going on across theNHS to make services better for people with learningdisabilities and their families. These sessions will give people achance to have their say about the joint health and social careframework. The self advocates session will also be a chancefor people to talk about how to best support the work of theQuality Health Checkers

Talking Travel Groups

For some time Inclusion North has been supporting differenttransport networks across the North East and Yorkshire andHumber. Lots of people said it would be a good idea to have

 just one group in each area.

Last year a new Terms of Reference was written and agreedby Inclusion North members. At the last meeting the twogroups decided what its most important things were to beworking on over the next 12 months.

Yorkshire and Humber Talking Travel GroupPersonalisation (self-directed support and travel options)

Keeping travel training going in tough times and sharinggood practice

The next meeting of this group is on Wednesday the 30th of

January in Leeds. The meeting will include a chance to hear about the great work being done by Emma Cawley and theTravel Solutions Team in Sheffield around personalisation andtravel.

event)

The day is just for people who have a learning disability whowant to learn about looking after their eyes.

We will give you a goodie bag with lots of information inside soyou can tell other people you know about eye care.

Personal Independence Payment: assessmentthresholds and consultation

The government is planning to change Disability Living Allowance to a new benefit called Personal IndependencePayment from 2013.

This is a new benefit to help disabled people live full, active

and independent lives. Disabled people who can get thebenefit will get money to help them pay the extra costs of being disabled.

The government wants to find new and better ways to workout who gets Personal Independence Payment. This will bedone through an assessment.

ConsultationThis is when the government asks people what they thinkabout its ideas and plans. Many people and groups got intouch and they had some good ideas to make PersonalIndependence Payment better. As a result, the governmentmade some changes to its assessment.

The consultation document was published in December.

Disability Rights UK - Welfare Reform Act plans

The Government has now published regulations for the WelfareReform Act plans to remove a million disabled people fromreceiving support. This comes on top of other cutsdisproportionately affecting disabled people, including to localcouncil care services.

Disability Rights UK is seeking your support now to ensuredisabled people and others contact MPs to raise concernsabout the plans. Their short briefing on the issue ‘Being a disabled person is nota lifestyle choice’ is available on their website and they wouldwelcome you submitting it to your MP and encouraging other disabled people, carers, disability and advice organisations todo so too.

Re-Mapping Autism Research in the UK  – an online survey 

This survey is part of the Re-Mapping Autism Research in theUK project currently being carried out by Centre for Researchin Autism and Education (CRAE) in partnership with Research

 Autism.

They want to summarise the current autism research, identifygaps and pinpoint priorities for the future.

  Department for Education  – Guidance in arranging education for children who areunable to attend mainstream or special school because oftheir health 

The Department for Education has released statutory guidancefor arranging children’s education when they are unable tounable to attend a mainstream or special school because of their health. This duty applies equally whether a child cannotattend school at all or can only attend intermittently.

This guidance replaces the previous guidance, Access to

Education for Children and Young People with Medical Needs(2001).

Health Inequalities and People with Learning Disabilities in

the UK: 2012

On 17th December IHaL published its annual report on the

nature, extent and determinants of the health inequalities

experienced by people with learning disabilities in the UK. The

2012 report contains a special focus on the health inequalitiesexperienced by people with challenging behaviours.

Debra Moore Associates have developed an e-learning websiteto help people be aware of the basic principles of gentle,respectful and effective postural care.

This information will help the individual and their support to findout information on how to protect body shape.

You can access the e-learning programmes as an individual or as an organization and they offer different rates and packagesfor family members / PAs or students and unemployed.
