COSTA SMERALDA

In the past the "Millstones", nowadays Costa Smeralda. It

is the north-east corner of Sardinia. A large, wild area

with 55 km of coastline has been changed into one of the

most luxury resorts of the Mediterranean. The area was

discovered by the Prince Karim Aga Khan, who was

bewitched by the magical, deserted beaches far away

from the modern civilized world. In 1962 the "Costa

Smeralda Consortium" was born. That was the beginning

of the era when Sardinia is well-known all over the world.

One of the most important roles was the one of the

"Architectural Committee". Their task was to transform an

unspoiled area into an organized holiday paradise. They

decided to promote homogeneous architectural

development (low buildings emerged into green

surroundings, gardens, many summer-flowering plants

etc.). Thanks to this project Sardinia began to emerge

from the centuries of isolation. The last step for this was

when in 1963 Karim Aga Khan solved the problem of

transports by forming an airline "Alisarda", now called

"Meridiana". At the beginnings the most popular

personalities were invited to promote the Costa Smeralda

and the tradition continues also now, when during the

summer holidays you can meet various VIP guests

walking around the "Piazzetta" square.

Restaurant Porto Cervo

The restaurant on Piazza del Principe has started its new era. Mara Santangelo, internationally

renowned Italian tennis player, is the new owner of the trendy restaurant in Porto Cervo. Elegance, flair

and exclusivity are the elements that characterize this new venue. In fact, Mara Santangelo wanted to

invest a piece of her way of making the things in this ambitious project and enter into the restaurant

world. The result is the elegant place situated in the upper part of the Porto Cervo centre overlooking the

bay with the luxury yachts. Dinner at the terrace or inside room possible.

Restaurant Gianni’s Porto Cervo

Gianni’s restaurant is situated 2 minutes by car from Porto Cervo centre. The restaurant is inside a

neoclassical building. The light colors inside the restaurant (white, yellow and some light blue) create

very pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant is one of those that have a long tradition. They serve the

typical local meals as well as the international ones, no difference between fish and meat – both

delicious with some particularities. Never forget to taste the excellent desserts. Appetizer and dessert

buffet, all the other courses served. Sardinian, Italian and international red and white wines available,

excellent service and some masterpieces of the local and international artists inside the main room of

the restaurant. It is one of the most appreciated restaurant by the international VIP guests. There is a

possibility to book a private rooms (on request, charged as a supplement).

Restaurant Lounge Porto Cervo beach

It is situated in the hearth of Porto Cervo Marina harbor (so-called new port), facing the luxury yachts

anchored in front of the restaurant. You can enjoy the wonderful view on the whole Porto Cervo

dominated by Stella Maris Church illuminated up on the hill. Very suggestive especially in the evening.

Meals can be served also at the open air (it depends on the weather conditions), in this case you feel

just like having your meal right above the sea, being so close to the water. This is a modern-style

restaurant, very cozy, comfortable and elegant. It is situated at Piazza Azzurra in the same building as

the famous and prestigious Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

Restaurant La Maddalena Island

The restaurant proposed for lunch during the trip to the La Maddalena archipelago. A charming warm

atmosphere, the professional staff, the constant attention to taste evolution: all this in a context of a

wonderful landscape, generous and exuberant in colors, aromas and shapes. The choice of sea as well

as land products and wines is accurate and based on the research of the best local producers. The

restaurant is situated in the marvelous “Cala Lunga” of “Porto Massimo”, in front of the isle of Caprera. It

has an extraordinary strategic position for yachts and speedboats, being on the crossroads of “Costa

Smeralda”, Corsica and the beautiful isles in the North-west of the archipelago of La Maddalena.

Restaurant Santo Stefano Island

This is the unique restaurant in Sardinia, because it was built on a floating

platform anchored in a small island between the north coast of Sardinia and the

La Maddalena island. It is situated in one of the most suggestive and exclusive

areas of the Emerald Coast and its location is extremely appreciated for the

beauty of the surrounding nature. During the dinner time the reflection of the

candles and lights over the sea creates a magic atmosphere while the clients

are reaching the restaurant by boat (the only way how to get there).

The restaurant serves the very high quality local meals as well as international

ones enriched by the particular touch of the chef. Fresh local fish is extremely

delicious.

The restaurant can hold more than 150 guests. The lounge bar, very cozy and

elegant, has a floor made of sand.

Logistics: Transfer by bus to Palau and then by inflatable boat (15 pax each)

included in price (boat run by restaurant, requires shuttle service)

Treasure hunt – by car

The following treasure hunting is a very challenging activity. One person of each group (2 or 4

people per car and per team) is to drive a car (driving license obligatory). At least one ore two

assistance cars are necessary. Availability to be verified on request.

The clients will be divided into small teams and each of them will use the following objects:

- A car (4 seats) driven by one person of the team;

- A digital camera;

- A map for treasure hunting and the game rules;

- A road map of Sardinia.

The treasure hunting lasts about 4 hours. Each team has to take a series of photos of themselves in

different places following the rules. It means that a photo has to be taken by automatic shooting or

by somebody else (passers-by, tourists, local people etc.). Some of the specific places might be the

following:

- All the team members in front of a nuraghe;

- All the team members together with an old local man wearing a typical Sardinian hat;

- All the team members in front of a church;

- All the team members with a light house behind them;

- All the team members in front of a millenary wild olive tree.

The winner is the first team that will hand to the jury a digital camera with all the photos required.

The jury will pay attention to all the details requested. It can be done once the group is all together

again at the arrival, or during lunch or after lunch. There is a possibility to prepare a screen so that

all the guests can see their own photos as well as the photos of the others. A CD with photos can

be given to the guests so that they can remember their trip to Sardinia. Some special prices for the

winners can be provided on request.

Treasure hunt by jeeps (8-seaters, 6 clients recommended)

The easy way how to concentrate on treasure hunting is to have a Jeep with a driver so that

the clients can pay attention to the rules of the game. In the meantime the local drivers drive

along the non-paved roads and across the countryside that is not possible to do by the cars

and it makes the treasure hunting more challenging. We strongly recommend not to occupy

all the 8 seats so that the clients feel more comfortable.

Each team will have the following:

- 1 Jeep with a driver;

- 1 digital camera;

- 1 Treasure hunting itinerary and the rules of the game;

- 1 Road map of the North Sardinia;

Each team will have 4 hour long time for taking pictures and following the rules that will lead

them to the treasure. In this case in every photo there must be also the jeep driver in order

not to help the clients to take the pictures.

The winner is who comes the first to the arrival area.

Treasure hunt by boats (8/9 people per boat)

The treasure hunting by boats is an exciting activity done in the crystal clear waters of the Costa

Smeralda and La Maddalena archipelago.

There are two options the guests choose from:

It is possible to organize the treasure hunting by motorboats or by the dinghies.

Every team has:

- Motorboat / dinghy;

- Digital camera;

- List of the tasks to be done.

It is usually done as a half day activity so that lunch can be organized in the restaurant or back in the

hotel. Each team has to take a series of photos of themselves in different places following the rules. It

means that a photo has to be taken by automatic shooting or somebody else (tourists on the beach

etc.). Some of the specific places might be the following:

- All the team members in front of the staue of Giuseppe garibaldi – 100 points;

- All the members in front of the Prada shop;

- All the team members with Spiaggia rosa behind them;

- All the members with Roccia dell'orso behind them;

- All the members in Piazza at Porto Rafael.

The winner is the team that within the time limit accumulates the highest number of the points. The jury

will count them. It can be done once the group is all together again at the arrival, or during lunch or

after lunch. A personalized gift can be prepared for the winners. There is a possibility to prepare a

display so that all the guests can see their own photos as well as the photos of the others. A CD with

photos can be given to the guests so that they can remember their trip to Sardinia.

Regatta (7/8 people per boat)

The Regatta is an experience that involves the participants in an enthusiastic race among

a wonderful and rare natural environment: the Marine Park of the Archipelago of la

Maddalena. They take part to the maneuvers of the sailing boat in order to participate

actively to the race. The target of the regatta as a team building activity is to learn the

basic rules in order to try how it works - in fact the skippers will teach the clients what to

do, but they will not help them to compete with the other teams. After a short initial training

the skipper will only make sure the security rules are observed.

Program:

At arrival to the port of departure, the clients will be divided into the teams and roles will

be assigned. When everyone is on board, navigation to the race course starts. Here

begins the real race: the first option is the triangular (Delta) paths: some buoys will be fixed

on water level and the boats will battle along stretches of windward, slack and stern.

Another option is the stick race along the particular shape of the coastline of the

Archipelago as well as north coast of Sardinia. In this case the sailing boats will follow a

route from the start to the finish line. The race usually lasts about 4 hours and is followed

by a lunch. It can be organized at a restaurant in one of the islands of the archipelago as

well as back in the hotel.

La Maddalena Marine National Park (7/8 people per boat)

The full day excursion to the La Maddalena Archipelago will give you the opportunity to visit one of the most

marvelous places in the Mediterranean coasts. The whole area is protected since National Protected Area has

been established in 1994. The archipelago located in the north of Sardinia, is made up of various islands (La

Maddalena, Caprera, Capuccini, Santo Stefano, Spargi, Budelli, Nibani, Mortorio ecc) and has about 180 kms of

coast line.

The only inhabited centre is La Maddalena situated in the homonymous island, the largest one. The second

largest island is famous for the Museum of Giuseppe Garibaldi. The smaller islands are not inhabited and most

of them are visited for the wonderful beaches. The archipelago is well-known also for the particular flora and

fauna.

It had a leading role in the past as a very strategic point in the central Mediterranean Sea, so that such famous

persons like Napoleone, Admiral Nelson and Giuseppe Garibaldi reached its coasts. Nowadays, after the U. S.

Navy left its base on the island, it is a real paradise for tourists and those who loves unpolluted nature.

During the excursion, sailing along the islands and beaches (for example the Spiaggia Rosa or pink beach – so

called thanks to the colors of the sand and now a forbidden area for tourists) the skippers will suggest a couple

of stops, where taking the chance to have a swim and sunbath.

The speed boats usually leave directly from the hotel jetty (if the hotel is situated on / next to the beach) and they

are the fastest mean to reach the archipelago. Only 10 persons are allowed per boat, so bigger groups have to

be divided into small groups. Cold drinks can be provided on board. Fuel cost is not included in the fees, it has to

be calculated at the end of the excursion.

In case of trip by speed boats, we can stop at the restaurant on the beach for lunch. The boats anchor directly in

front of the restaurant. Lunch is served in the terrace with a view on the sea.
