E njoying a light, constant breeze that makes it slightly cooler than much of the Mediterranean in summer, Sardinia is a true yachting haven. The island’s northern Costa Smeralda is legendary – wander the old town of Porto Cervo
and sip and espresso on the waterfront, or hit the beach and partake in sunset cocktails in chic Cala di Volpe. For a more tranquil experience, set sail for the quiet shores of the Maddalena Islands, home to Maddalena National Park, or venture down the coast to Isola Tavolara for fantastic dive sites and peaceful anchorages.

F amed for art, history, food and wine, the islands and coastline surrounding Naples combine warm sunshine, beautiful beaches and fascinating culture. Cruising the shoreline allows full appreciation of this extraordinary region
of Italy; not only will the views be even more spectacular, but a yacht is perfectly placed to explore the many local and lesser-known islands along the way. Start in volcanic Ischia to explore ancient mythology and take a dip in the thermal hot springs before heading to cosmopolitan Capri for top-class restaurants and boutiques. Continue down the Amalfi Coast to discover local cuisines and cultures, swim in azure waters and take in breath-taking views from the deck of your yacht.

J ust off Sicily's northeast coast, the seven UNESCO-protected Aeolian Islands boast volcanic origins and varied landscapes. The main island of Lipari has a vibrant town and is a great place from which to explore, while
neighbouring Vulcano is famed for its vast and sweeping black sand beaches and mud baths. Remote Stromboli, dominated by active volcano Gran Cratere, offers incredible views for adventurous hikers as well as the chance to take in
magma firework displays at night from on deck.
For a leisurely walk, drop anchor off Salina – a lush, hilly island, crammed with history. With an upmarket shopping street and quaint hotels dotted between private villas in lush gardens, the smallest and most refined Aeolian Island of Panarea is also a surprising culinary haven. For more rustic tastes, head west to the islands of Filicudi and Alicudi; swim in total seclusion, catch your own fish,
and enjoy a private BBQ on deck washed down with a glass of Sicilian wine.

T he largest of the Italian islands, picturesque Sicily offers huge variety – from lush, verdant mountains to the chic cities. Enjoy the endless breath-taking views whilst circumnavigating the coastline in crystalline waters.
Palermo, the old town capital of the island, is postcard stuff; a terracotta-walled rabbit warren of cobbled streets with hanging baskets trailing flame red flowers. Catania is a paradise for adventurers and hikers, as is the UNESCO World Heritage site around Etna, Europe’s tallest active volcano. The rolling countryside in the south throws up the precariously balanced hilltop towns of Ragusa Ibla and Erice, though you’ll keep coming back to Taormina. As the heat rises, retreat to Gran Duca for a bottle of chilled local Nero d'Avola and a generous plate of spicy spaghetti vongole while sitting high above the bay to see your yacht at anchor below you.
