Message from the Principal Dear Parents and Students: Last weekend I explained that the proposedbudget for the 2015-16 school year included asignificant cut for Wilson. Last year (2014-2015) we received $9276 per student and theproposal is that we receive $8306 per studentfor next year (2015-2016). This sum is theleast amount received by any ofthe comprehensive schools in the city. Givenour anticipated 10% or more increase inenrollment (from a projected 1708 last year toa projected 1878 for next year), this amounts to an effective cut of$1.8 million. When the lowered per pupil amount ($8306) ismultiplied by our projected enrollment for next year, the result is abudget for 1878 that is $309,600 lower than the budget we weregiven last year to serve 1708 students. In short, we are being askedto serve 170 more students, with 309,600 fewer dollars. I spent much of last week trying to persuade DCPS to reconsider theproposed cut. To date, DCPS has been unwilling to make changes. The Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO) and Local SchoolAdvisory Team (LSAT) believe that it is very important that DCPSrevisit this budget so that we can be in a position to serve thestudents in our charge fully and responsibly. With the help of thePTSO and the LSAT I will continue to work to make that happen. With Tiger Pride,
Greg Bargeman
