Coming soon . . . Improvements to parts of the Library’s building and grounds will begin this month. The entire project is expected to take four months. We are happy to report that access to the Library via the main doors will continue throughout the project. Some sidewalks and part of the parking lot will be inaccessible for short periods of time. Please pardon our dust, detours, and noise during this time. The Library’s Annual Magazine Giveaway . . . will be held Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. (or until magazines are gone). Magazines from 2011 will be offered free of charge on a firstcome, firstserved basis. Publications include Fine Woodworking, Family Handyman, Food Network, Highlights, High Five, Interview, Taste of Home, Wine Spectator, and all of the remaining issues of Ladies Home Journal and WWE, which have ceased publication. Magazines are great for art projects, school projects, and collecting. Come and get ’em! Please Join Us . . . at a reception honoring Susan S. Russo as a Library Leader, Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m., in the Founders Room. Russo’s efforts in acquiring the existing Library property, construction of the new building, and subsequent referendum to operate the new building were immeasurable. Russo was president of the Board of Library Trustees when the building opened in January 2002. No registration is required. Autism Survey . . . Family members of children and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and others who work with those with ASD are encouraged to participate in a survey being conducted in cooperation with the Illinois State Library. The purpose of the survey is to provide public libraries with information on needs, priorities, and interests around ASD in order to guide the development and delivery of ASD information services. A link to the survey can be found on the Library’s website now and through late summer. Board of Library Trustees Meeting: Tuesday, April 21, at 7 p.m., in the Library Conference Room. Meetings are open to the public. The Next Meeting . . . of the Batavia Public Library Writers Workshop is Monday, April 13, at 6:30 p.m. Experienced and novice writers of all genres meet to perfect their craft by offering each other constructive criticism and support. The group meets on the second Monday of every month. Registration is not required. For more information, contact the workshop facilitator Frank Rutledge, [email protected] . Friends of the Batavia Public Library: The Friends are throwing a party and everyone’s invited! The celebration of Friends, books, and Library will be held Thursday, April 23, from 7 to 9 p.m., at the Library. The event features a performance by singer/musician Timothy R. Smith and refreshments. A very brief annual business meeting will precede the entertainment. You don’t have to be a Friend to come to the party—but you may make new friends while you’re there! No registration required. The next book sale in the FriendSpace is Saturday, April 4, from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. The May 2 book sale in the FriendSpace will feature a bag sale from 12 to 4 p.m. On this day all the books you can fit into a bag provided by the Friends will cost a total of $5. A free ACT Practice Test will be offered Sunday May 3 from 1230 to 4 pm High school students should bring a calculator pencils waterand an energy snack Kaplan Test Prep will score the test and contact students with results approximately two weeks after the test Pleaseregister earlymdash15 participants are needed for each event to run Limit 24 participants
