In Portuguese "fast food” refers to meals quickly and can be made ingested in a few minutes.

In modern societies, in which the time spent in meals is very limited, this type of food did much success and appeared several emprise products that offer exactly equal in all its restaurants and reduced prices.
- White Castle was the first chain fast food, having been created in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas.
- The American people were more busy going from house to work and for all types of leisure activities. Thus it became difficult to have time to do home cooking.
