DISCUSSION/SUMMARY: The Alameda County Board of Supervisors adopted a County Facility Naming Policy on September 14, 1999, for the formal naming of public buildings and facilities. In compliance with the Board's policy, the naming opportunity listed in Attachment A is making a significant financial contribution to a County institution. Further, the contributor's name does not carry the brand name, corporate name, or family name of a firearm, alcohol, or tobacco product. The contributor's name is not a trademark, copyright, brand name, or existing landmark being used without the proper legal consent of its lawful owners. Attachment A is a Naming Opportunity approved by the Alameda County Library Foundation at their meeting held on February 2, 2010. Additionally, the naming request was reviewed by the Alameda County PAL (Personnel/Administration/Legislation) Committee at their Aplil 26, 2010 meeting. Reserving naming opportunities in the new library building has resulted in substantial gifts from institutions and individuals. Approval of the library naming the "Teen Room" the Jenny Lin Study Room in Attachment A will enable them to accept the donor's contribution of $50,000 towards capital campaign equipment and expenditures. The Library Foundation may submit other naming requests to their Board of Directors as the Capital Campaign continues. In addition to the naming opportunity listed on the attached, the library has also received contributions by opportunities to put name plaques on chairs, bookshelves and other sections of the facility. The positive impact using this method has been demonstrated by the $3,200,000 raised for the Capital Campaign to date.
