Fluorine

Fluorine is a natural element on the periodic table.

Fluorine isn’t anything new, but it’s been in the news because it’s controversial. It’s used in many of the products we use many times a day—toothpaste to clothing, cookware to smartphones—because it delivers the superior performance consumers demand. While more than 5,000 known substances contain fluorines, not all are the same. There are the “concerning” fluorines such as PFOA, PFOS and “C8,” and there are the “preferred” fluorines of no controversy, including some used in common pharmaceuticals.

High-performance fabrics rely on fluorine to repel oil-based stains like salad dressing, chocolate, grease, etcetera. While there is no other known option for oil-repellency, there is the responsible choice for manufacturers to minimize fluorine to reduce environmental impact.

In the 27 years since we were founded in North Carolina, we have been on a continuing mission to reduce fluorine in all Crypton fabrics.Today, our latest patented technology delivers our best stain protec-tion and softest hand ever—with only 0.1% fluorine, our lowest amount yet and a new industry standard. The breakthrough to achieving 99.9% fluorine-free technology was led by their recent innovation of C-Zero Fabric, featuring the industry’s first 100% fluorine-free, soil-repellent technology. The science of C-Zero informed our gold-standard Crypton Fabrics, resulting in our best stain protection and softest hand ever … with just 0.1% fluorine. Special polymers in our patented formulation permanently bond the fluoro-technology to the fabric’s fibers, so it is safely sealed, impossible to rub off.

If your client is a restaurant or hotel, Crypton Fabric, which resists oil-based stains and water-based stains, may better address their needs while only having a trace 0.1% fluorine.
