Board of Directors (continued from front page)

The most gratifying part of serving on our BOD is to be able to adequately ad-dress and take care of a resident con-cerns and/or needs.

Please think of your neighbor when: making alterations to your yard, land-

scaping, and home. Be mindful of boundaries or blocking their view.

walking your animals. Keep them within 8 feet while walking and under control.

and with your street parking. Make sure your guests don’t park on side-walks or block your neighbors access to their driveway.

Part of being in a community is respect-ing each other’s tiny “piece of paradise”. When you see any rule violations that you wish to report, you should be calling the Management Office 727-573-5670

Our next Board of Directors Meeting will be handled through ZOOM on

    Tuesday, Feb. 9th at 7:00pm

You may connect through a computer or listen by phoning in. We will begin promptly with Resident Concerns (3 minutes, limited to an agenda item). The phone number or link to the meet-ing can be emailed directly to you by sending a request to my personal email or calling me.

The link will be posted on themainlands.com and in the clubhouse, both along with the Agenda, 48 hours prior. It will also be posted on Nextdoor Mainlands Unit Five Group and the Social Club Facebook page.

    CLUBHOUSE and POOL Charlie Schmid

The pool company responded in a very timely manner, to rid the pool of a green algae. It has been clear now for a week or so. I appreciate the members that fre-quent the pool to let me know of the prob-lem. Also the gate on the South side was not closing properly and was adjusted to fix the problem.

Hopefully we can get the committee started for the initial discussion about the extent of the renovations in the clubhouse.

    SECURITY Stuart Hoff

First of all, a very big thank you to the people who have been part of the daily evening Clubhouse Area Security team. I will be sending out a revised semi-permanent list shortly. If you would like to join the team and volunteer for one eve-ning a month, please contact me(727-579-4060) or ([email protected])

At the last Board meeting, we discussed the possibility of installing security cam-eras in the Clubhouse, pool, and shuffle-board areas. Other Units have put them in so we are doing some research.

The systems installed would not record audio, only video. Monitoring of the re-cordings would be done by the Manage-ment Office.

A quick final note: If you are in the Club-house and use the restrooms, if you exit through the door to the outside, the ac-cess to the Clubhouse remains open. Please exit through the Clubhouse and relock the restroom door.

    WOMEN’S CLUB Toni Medjuck

Unit Five Women’s Club Board of Direc-tors hope that everyone is well. We en-courage everyone to be safe and healthy. We miss seeing our members and are continuing to explore ideas to help keep our Women’s Club connected and active during this pandemic. Please submit any ideas you have to the Board of Directors so that we stay connected until we can meet again.

We want to congratulate Laurie Breen on her new position on Mainland’s Unit Five Board of Directors. Laurie resigned from her position with the Women’s Club. Judy Pustizzi graciously accepted the appointment to be our Treasurer, which was ratified by our board of direc-tors. Congratulations Judy!

Please contact Mary Ellen Boudreau (360-356-2363) for all membership con-cerns, including becoming a new mem-ber, and Janet Barker (352-521-3750) if there are any community concerns.

    JOCKO’S JAM*

Last month we expanded upon the following idea: The “Good Life” emerges as we balance seven important facets of living. These interact to make us the person we are. Getting all seven into proper relationship, appropriate balance, makes our lives stronger, more enjoyable, healthier, more creative, and much more fulfill-ing. What do you think? The seven facets are:

    1. Body: The Physical or Material part of who we are 2. Mind: The Intellectual or Psychical self 3. Spirit: The Spiritual, Soul, or our connection with the Universe 4. Emotions: Our Feelings 5. Relationships: Our Social selves 6. Work: Our Vocational, Productive self, our “calling” 7. Play: Our Avocational pursuits, the just for Fun, Playful, Creative self

Most will agree that the eight best medicines in the world are: Sunshine, Fresh Air, Rest, Exercise, Diet, Friends, and Self Confidence. These are not in any specific order but the last one listed is our focus for today.

Our confident attitudes in life help us make life better simply because we come to feel that we do have some control over some things. We can make life better because we are not victims of circumstance but active agents in our own well-being.

Please do not confuse self-confidence with arrogant cockiness. Most arrogant people are not nearly as sure as they pretend to be. Most cocky people are very insecure inside. True self-confidence has to do with knowing and trusting one’s self. This is truly good medicine. It is the door that opens the way to positive changes. These decisions lead to holistic good habits. These habits add days to our lives and life to our days.

As we start this new year, let us take a fearless look at ourselves. What are my strengths? What do I do well? What are my challenges? Where can I improve? How can I use my strengths to overcome a challenge, to change just a little bit toward the better?

Remember, we are not looking for perfection! We are looking for improvement. Progress!

Today, I will get to know myself better, love myself more, and take better care of myself. Today I will look at the seven facets of my life, and I will apply one strength to one chal-lenge. Maybe I will get out into the fresh air and feel the sun on my face. Maybe I will invite a friend to sit on the porch or to take a little walk with me. Maybe I will step out in confident hope that I can make my life better.

I am hoping with you in all of that.

Thank you for reading this issue of the Five’s Forum - it is our best way to communicate during these times.

This page is for your reference when answering the Animal/Pet Survey on the following page.

    UNIT FIVE’s CURRENT PET/ANIMAL RULES

8.1 NUMBER OF PETS The number of pets per residence shall be limited to two. No exotic pets are al-lowed. Birds and cats must be kept indoors.

8.2 MEDICAL PRESCRIBED SERVICE ANIMALS Medically prescribed service animals (for example, guide dogs, seeing eye dogs,) are exempt from the size/weight limit.

8.3 DOGS Dogs shall not exceed thirty-five (35) pounds when fully grown. A dog must al-ways either be leashed or tethered and under physical control when outdoors. Tethered dogs must still be watched and kept under control of their owner. The range of movement shall be limited to the boundaries of the owner's lot.

Gates may be used on front porches and patios to contain your dog.

The person in charge of the dog while outdoors must have in their possession the equipment to pick up and remove excrement. Excrement must be removed promptly. When possible, walk your pet along the Mainlands Boulevard median for “business” purposes.; however, in any location, all dog owners owe neighbors and residents the courtesy of removing animal waste.

Pets are not allowed on or in recreation facilities at any time.

8.4 NUISANCE CLAUSE If any pet becomes a nuisance, threat or disturbance to any resident, the BOD may require such pet to be removed from the residence. The pet owner is first given notice and the opportunity for a hearing before the BOD.

8.5 VISITING PETS The same restrictions apply to pets of guests visiting more than 10 days.

    ALSO FOR YOU REFERENCE:

UNIT 1: NO WEIGHT LIMIT on ONE pet UNIT 2: NO WEIGHT LIMIT on ONE pet, OR residents may have 2 pets instead but each dog may not exceed 50 lbs. each UNIT 3: 2 Pets with NO weight limit UNIT 4: about the same as our current rules UNIT 6: 2 Pets with NO weight limit

Animal/Pet Rules Survey (current rules on reverse side)

Some residents have inquired why we limit dog weight to 35 pounds.

Some residents believe that the current rule keeps potential buyers from wanting to buy their home in Unit Five.

Some residents believe that some small dogs are just as fierce as some larger dogs.

Some residents have voiced the opinion that it shouldn’t matter to the unit the size of the dog as they have to pick-up after it no matter how large the dog/waste is.

THIS IS NOT A VOTE. It is an opportunity for your opinion to be heard. Deadline to submit is Sunday, Feb. 14th

Please fill out and deposit in the BOX located inside the Clubhouse on

the table (in the porch area) marked DOGS or mail to:

Mainlands Unit Five, 4275 Mainlands Blvd. So. 33782

Please circle one: Yes or No OR: What weight limit would you suggest? ________ lbs.
