Maryland CTE Today

• Nearly half (134,650) of all Maryland high school students in grades 10 - 12 enroll in CTE

• 25% (13,919) of the class of 2006 completed a CTE program of study

• 51% of the CTE completers also completed the coursework for meeting the University System of Maryland; in 1993, it was only 14%

• 55,546 postsecondary students enroll in CTE throughout 15 of Maryland’s 16 community colleges

• 4,293 postsecondary students received an occupational degree or certificate

Development of Maryland’s Career Clusters

• Educators and Employers partnered to develop ten Career Clusters

• Based upon Maryland’s unique employment needs• Career Pathways and Pathway Programs were

identified within each Career Cluster• Over 350 employers were involved in the

validation and design process• Focused on the breath, depth, and value added

in CTE programs• Moved from Procedural Knowledge to focus

on Problem Solving and Critical Thinking
