• Impaired driving is when you drive under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs to the degree that mental and motor skills are impaired

Consequences of Impaired Driving

• When driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol you are taking the risk of having your drivers license suspended and you might even face some jail time.

• The worst consequence of impaired driving is death, when you drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol you are putting your life and/or someone else's life in danger and can result in death

Total Deaths from Impaired driving

• In 2010, it was estimated that 2,541 individuals were killed in motor vehicle crashes in Canada.

• It was estimated by MADD that 1,082 of these fatalities were impairment related

• Given the limits on the 1,082 figure, MADD Canada estimates there are somewhere between 1,250 and 1,500 impairment-related crash deaths in Canada each year ( That is roughly 3.4 -4.1 deaths per day)

Total Injuries from Impaired Driving

• In 2010, it was estimated that about 298,838 individuals were injured in motor vehicle crashes.

• MADD Canada estimates that approximately 63,821 of these individuals were injured in impairment related crashes (That is around 175 injuries per day).

• In 2010, impairment related driving deaths, injuries, and property damage – only crashes in Canada can be estimated to have cost $20.62 billion
