LOST ITEMS

We have a special Project planned for the school photographs. In preparation, we have noticed that a photograph from 1932 was removed from the frame. If any one has knowledge of its wherea-bouts, please contact the office. We are also looking for any school Class Photo’s from the 1960’s and be-yond. Please contact the office if you have one that we could copy. Thank You.

• All Committee Chair-persons are asked to plan your meeting schedule for 2020 and submit all dates to the Parish Office by Monday, June 3. This will assist in having our calen-dar for the year properly in place.

• The Most Reverend Salvatore Mata-no, Bishop of Rochester, cordially invites you to the Mass of Ordina-tion to the Sacred Order of Priest-hood for two men on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at 10:00am at the Cathedral.

• Novena to the Holy Spirit begins on

Ascension Thursday; We shall be praying together the prayer to the Holy Spirit before the final blessings at the conclusion of daily Mass until Pentecost. We pray for renewed—reawakening of faith in the risen Lord. Come join us. Families are encouraged to do the Novena at home with members of their family.

SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

We read in the Gospel the promise Jesus made to send us the Ho-ly Spirit, and entrusting Him with the task of leading us, of teach-ing and reminding us of all that He has said. How did the Holy Spirit intervene. The early Church was faced with the question of whether the tradition of Israel should be imposed upon pagans. The Apostles assembled and prayed and kept their ears and hearts open to the Holy Spirit who guided them. The results of listening to the Holy Spirit is more than rewarding. He will lead us to re-ject what is contrary to the central teaching of Jesus in the Gospel and will help enlighten all cultures. Every culture has something to enrich our faith in Christ. As the feast of Pentecost draws near, we pray that He may enlighten and lead us to fullness of Love.

VOLUNTEER MASS & RECEPTION

The Cemetery Committee has been working on the me-morial garden and columbarium project that was first introduced to our parish members in the April 26/27 church bulletin. To move this project forward, we re-quested help from the Landscape Architecture Depart-ment at Cornell to develop a site plan and concept draw-ing. While the memorial garden layout is not finalized yet, it is our objective to see how it fits in the space that we initially identified and to provide you with a general description of the project.

Before this project can continue, it is necessary to determine parishion-er’s interest in above-ground burial of cremat-ed remains. This is pru-dent given the cost of the columbarium and construction of the memorial garden. In the month of June, the Cemetery Committee will pro-vide a short (card sized) survey to determine if parish-ioners would be willing to purchase a niche in the col-umbarium. Other churches in our area will also be in-cluded in the survey. We are still working on determining costs and an estimate will be provided at the time that the survey is distributed. It is hopeful that there would be enough interest in this project to move ahead.

YOUTH AND FAMILY CORNER

On Thursday, May 16th, our parish hosted a Regional Confirmation Mass and celebration with Bishop Matano and 92 Confirmands from around our area. Along with Immaculate Conception, parishes taking part were St. Catherine of Siena (Ithaca), The Parish of Mary Mother of Mercy (Trumansburg, Interlaken and Ovid), N.E.T. Catholic (All Saints Lansing and Holy Cross, Dryden), Good Shepherd Catholic Community (Aurora), St. Mary of the Lake (Watkins Glen), Blessed Trinity/St. Patrick’s (Owego), and Parish of the Most Holy Name of Jesus (Elmira). If you have never seen our church filled to capacity with 800 people, it was quite the scene and wonderful to be part of. Confirmation is not, as Bishop Matano pointed out, a graduation. It is really a beginning. We are reminded that Confirmation is a continuation of our Baptismal call and promise. The sacrament equips us with the gifts of the Holy Spirit to take a more active role in fulfilling the Mission of Jesus Christ. We do that in a variety of ways; big and small and in the ordinary moments in our lives. Let us truly LIVE this sacrament joyfully proclaiming the Good News by our lives.

Mass Intentions
