If you have palms le< from Palm Sunday last year, you may bring them
to church and place them inside the entrance of the Church/Gather
Space (a box will be provided). The old palms are burnt to make ashes
that are used on Ash Wednesday.
Christ Child Society of For t Wayne will be distr ibuting empty baby bottles for their annual Baby Bottle Initiative next weekend . We are asking for help to fund the many ministries they support by filling your baby bottle with loose change. Your filled baby bottle will allow them to continue its mission to break the cycle of poverty. Please drop your spare change into your baby bottle each evening and watch it fill knowing that you are helping to teach, motivate, and care for children in ways that best respond to the unique needs. If you are unable to obtain a baby bottle or �ind it more
convenient, please consider a donation made online at

ST. AUGUSTINE MEN’S GROUP Compulsion or addiction to pornography destroys marriages,

of serving men in the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend who
struggle to �ind freedom from pornography. The lives of men have
been transformed because of their willingness to change, to be
honest, and to seek connection not only with God but with their
fellow brothers. Our meetings focus on the positive and what we can
do to overcome our daily struggles. You will feel the burden lifted
and �ind friendship, community, accountability, trust, and even a little
humor along the way.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My dear sisters and brothers,
Given these last several months, we don’t need a prophet to tell us that this world won’t last forever. As Saint Paul reminds us the world in its present form is passing away. Jesus may return any moment at the end of time. but if it’s not during our lifetime, each of us will one day die. If we have repented, continuously seeking God’s forgiveness for our sins, believed in the Gospel, and done our best to follow Jesus, then, God willing, we will see the kingdom of God, where we will enjoy eternal life.
If heaven is the goal, how should we behave? Today’s readings offer a few practical suggestions.
The Ninevites teach us that we should acknowledge our own sinfulness, repent, and seek forgiveness. This is important not only because it is right and just, but also because it is an exercise in humility. The glossary of the catechism defines humility as “The virtue by which a Christian acknowledges that God is the author of all good. Humility avoids inordinate ambition or pride and provides the foundation for turning to God in prayer, Therefore, humility can help us grow in holiness.
Saint Paul tells us essentially, to act in the opposite way as one would expect. We can take this to mean we should keep our focus not on the things and events of this world, but rather on heaven. We need to live each day knowing that we are preparing our souls to hopefully, live in heaven with Jesus and all the saints and angels.
Finally, we see in the Gospel that Jesus tells us simply to repent and believe in the Gospel. He invites the first disciples, Simon and Andrew, to follow him. They do, and likewise with James and John. We learn from this Gospel that faith includes actively following Christ, even if that means leaving the good things of this world behind. Self-sacrifice is never easy, but following Christ is the most important thing we can possibly do in this life.
Therefore, let us ask the Eucharistic Lord to help us always remember to keep our eyes fixed on heaven, because this world in its present form is passing away.
