Its no secret that many of us think of the kitchenas the heart of the home. And thats no surprisebecause, whether its simply putting your feet upwith a cuppa and catching up with friends, orcooking a huge turkey for Christmas day, the kitchenis a room that almost every guest is guaranteed tosee and should be a place you are proud of.
If you are not satisfied with the condition of yourkitchen, perhaps it is time for a revamp. Whetheryou know exactly what you want to achieve, orhave absolutely no idea, the experienced andfriendly staff at David J Martin can help you realiseyour kitchens potential.
The company is currently celebrating animpressive 35 years in business and managingdirector David Martin believes that providingexcellent customer service and quality, bespokeproducts is the formula for success.
Our attention to detail is second to none and thismakes us stand out from the crowd. We are notheld to ransom by mass-produced products as wemake everything from scratch even down to
Painstaking craftmanship and attention to detail mean that each kitchen David J Martin creates is unique.

making our own cutters for producingmouldings, he said. This means you can addto your kitchen in years to come and thecompany will still be able to match thedesigns.
At David J Martin you will get a kitchen thatis unique to you. The cabinetmakers workfrom plans drawn by David and createbespoke furniture, which you can see beingmade in the workshops. They can spray doorsto high gloss or satin finishes using durableTwo Pac paint.
With larger companies, you will often seedoors advertised as having a high-glossfinish. This means that they are vinyl-wrappedand, although this does produce a shiny look,it means that you will be able to see the joins.
David J Martins professional sprayer canapply any colour you wish in their paint-spraying booth, giving a modern finish withno joins. That means water cannot seep inand cause peeling something that can happenwith vinyl-wrapped doors.Everything is done in-house,which enables David toguarantee high quality atevery stage.
As well as providingexcellent products andkitchens, the company ishighly regarded for its greatcustomer and after-salesservice. If you have anyproblems, queries orcomplaints, they will help toput them right andthat applies whetheryouve had your newkitchen for two weeksor ten years. It is atruly caring approachand, with much of thebusinesss workcoming fromcustomerrecommendations, it isclearly a good one.
As well as their workshop, you can seeexamples of the companys work in theshowroom at David J Martins premises onSpringvale Road, Sheffield. As well as kitchens, they create wardrobes, media centres andstudies.
David said: We run a building companyalongside our bespoke joinery company, socustomers are not waiting for plumbers, electricians and so on. We can take care ofeverything and ensure that the project iscompleted to the highest standard.

PROMOTIONWOSSKOW BROWN
Wosskow Browns head of private client, Emilda Morgans, guidesus through the inheritance tax changes.
The government announced in its recent budget that theinheritance tax threshold for couples would rise to1million. But while at first this may seem like cause forcelebration, what does it really mean for those planning thefuture of their estate?
Currently, if your estate (including money, property andinvestments, minus debts and funeral costs) is worth morethan 325,000 or, if youre a couple, 650,000 the valueabove that threshold will be taxed at 40 per cent upon yourdeath.
The recent changes will boost the thresholds to 500,000and 1million, respectively. However, as Emilda Morgans ofWosskow Brown explains, the increases are not as simple asthey may seem.
There will eventually be the potential for each person tohave an extra 175,000 untaxed. But the limit only applies ifyou are leaving your property to your children. It is also not animmediate change, as the higher allowances are beingintroduced gradually.
An extra 100,000 will be added to the threshold in 2017,followed by an additional 75,000 the following year. So, by2018, couples will have the potential for a combined tax-freelimit of 1million.
The Conservative promise was to increase the inheritancetax-free threshold to 1million, continues Emilda. They havedelivered this but it is not as straightforward as it seems andwe are encouraging everyone to seek professional advice tounderstand how the new rules actually work in practice.
Wosskow Browncan also advise onmitigating yourinheritance taxliability. For example, are you aware thatthere is a 3,000annual giftexemption perperson, the ability togive 250 to anynumber ofindividuals, and the option to make gifts out of surplus incomewithout these gifts affecting your inheritance tax position?
If you are at all unsure about where you stand with regardsto inheritance tax, dont delay. Call Wosskow Brown on thenumbers below and allow them to expertly guide you throughthe changes.

EnglishtraditionAfternoon tea is one of many newadditions at Wards Nurseries andGarden Centre, writes Fiona Barber.
There is one tradition that has not only stood the test of time, but has also soared in popularity over the last few years. Therenaissance of afternoon tea shows no signs of slowing andhas become as synonymous with our fair isles heritage as Sundayroasts and discussing the weather.
Afternoon tea was typically a grand affair, where upper-classwomen wearing long gowns, gloves and hats would meet in thedrawing room and nibble sandwiches and drink tea in the middleof the afternoon.
Nowadays it is much more accessible and affordable, and can beenjoyed as a relaxed late lunch, or as an occasional indulgence tocelebrate special events such as Mothers Day.
For those looking to enjoy a taste of tea in tranquil surroundings,Wards Nurseries and Garden Centre recently added another stringto its already impressive bow, by offering customers a deliciousafternoon tea from 2pm until 5pm. Director Sue Poulton says: Westarted doing cream teas in the afternoon and they proved sopopular we decided to expand on the idea.
I decided to put this newest addition to the test on a recent visitand ordered tea for one, along with an Americano. Although thesandwiches are a selection of the chefs choice, if there is anythingyoud prefer not to have smoked salmon in my case the staff atWards are happy to oblige. Four sandwiches and three desserts
came delicately arranged on aclassic two-tiered plate. The
savoury assortmentincluded wonderfully
gooey brie, which wasoffset by a sweetcranberry sauce, classic ham, asmooth creamcheese andcucumber, and aflavoursome tuna
mayonnaise. While I was tucking
into my sandwiches, across the table my
dining companion was
enjoying a toastedpanini. Lavishly filledwith melted brie andsucculent turkey breast,it was a truly indulgentlunchtime treat.
The afternoon teasweet selection was justas impressive, with a beautiful strawberry cheesecake featuring abiscuit base topped generously with a light mousse a sconeserved with strawberry jam and clotted cream and a shortbreadbiscuit dipped in chocolate. Feeling generous, I shared the sweettreats with my companion and he was equally complimentary.
Wards menu is extensive; as well as the huge variety ofsandwiches and cakes, there are jacket potatoes, salads, quichesand omelettes available.
While popular options like their Sunday roasts and legendarymeat and potato pies will always have a place on the menu, Suesays theyre thinking of changing things up a bit. Were looking atdoing a world-wide theme, such as a Greek dish one day andMexican another. Its important to keep things fresh and try tosurprise people. We tried the Moroccan lamb as a new dish and itsreally popular now.
As well as cooking for their customers, Wards has all the toolsyou need to make the most of whats left of the summer. Try awood burning or gas barbecue, or one of their Kadai barbecue firebowls ideal for alfresco cooking and socialising.
Wards have also recently added Little Cupcakes to theirchildrens range. These baby clothes are made from the finestcotton and are beautifully packaged to look like cupcakes a veryspecial gift for any new arrival.
So after youve enjoyed afternoon tea, dont forget to explore therest of whats on offer at Wards; their huge selection of plants, aquatics, and furniture is enviable.

IMAGEBACK TO SCHOOL
In September I will be entering Year 11 at Lady MannersSchool, and I am all too aware of the importance of this year.Throughout the year, I will be sitting numerous controlledassessments for my chosen subjects, before sitting finalexaminations in May. Its what everything over the last few yearshas been leading up to. Since I was in primary school, teachershave been drilling into our heads the importance of theseexaminations, so it can be hard not to feel pressure, especiallywhen it is right around the corner.
For anyone who doesnt know, or has forgotten what it is like tostart a new school year, I usually have a wide mix of emotions.Theres the excitement of reuniting with friends that you haventseen in months, the sadness of summer being over, and thedaunting prospect of starting new classes with new teachers thatyou havent met before.
In September, it often seems difficult to look ahead to a time thatyou are going to finish that year. It just seems like you are going tobe there forever. Its like standing at the foot of a very largemountain; you cant see the top yet, although you know its there, and you know that atsome point eventuallyyou will have toreach the summit, but you almost feellike youll never beable to reach it. Peoplesometimes call this muddledmess of emotions the back to school blues.
When I was a little younger, inyears 7 and 8, I used to get reallynervous about starting back atschool. It felt like I had been away from school and everything todo with school for so long, and that when I got there on the firstday, it would be like starting a new school all over again. But itnever was. Usually, it would feel slightly different to the year before academic-wise as the work would get more challenging anddemanding, but I still knew everybody, so it wasnt like startingcompletely afresh.
Often, if I have something happening the next day that I amnervous or anxious about, Ill spend hours thinking up all of thepossible different outcomes that I can imagine. Then, when I getthere, its never like any of the outcomes that I originally imagined.I always imagine that when I see friends for the first time in weeksit will be awkward and that we will have nothing to say to eachother, but usually it isnt I just feel excited to finally be seeingthem again. At the beginning of year 10, it felt a lot less like it haddone in previous years. It just felt like a continuation of the previous year, like we had never really left, but there was theobvious pressure from many of our teachers as we began ourGCSE courses.
It is often hard to get back into the routine of things after thesummer holiday. I seem to retain things I have learnt much betterin some classes than others, so in some classes it feels like a madpanic to try and remember everything that I was taught theprevious year.
When it was time to choose what options I wanted to take formy GCSEs, I had a lot of difficulty deciding. There were too manythings that I wanted to do and, since I didnt really know what Iwanted to do in the future, I just chose subjects that I was enjoyingat the time. I did have to sacrifice a few subjects that I really
enjoyed, but I think I chose the right ones because, for the mostpart, I do enjoy school. When we chose our options, it was only halfway through year 9 and I felt rather young and inexperienced tobe making those kinds of decisions, as GCSEs effect the rest ofyour life.
I have thought about what I might like to do after school, but Ikeep changing my mind. I would like to pursue a career in eitherfilm or publishing because I love books and writing and creatingcharacters and stories. Im not sure what I want to study atuniversity but I am planning to go. At school there is help available, and there are several websites we have been shown that can helpus choose career paths and give detailed information on a widerange of jobs that we are interested in.
At the end of year 11, Im not really leaving school because I planto return to Lady Manners for sixth form. However, some of myfriends are planning to attend other sixth forms, colleges orapprenticeships, so it will be sad to see them leave. I find it quitedifficult to imagine finishing year 11 at the moment; I dont reallyknow what it is going to feel like until it happens, because things
like that dontusually happenexactly the waythat you imagine.
In year 11, Ithink you feelmore responsible
for your learning andhomework. You have to makesure that you are learning theinformation in lessons as yougo along. If you do not retain it,
when it comes time to revise fortests, you have a lot of information to go over and learn in aseemingly short period of time.
My favourite parts of school are being around my friends everyday and the various sporting events that we have in the summer.Although, I do really like it in lessons if we are doing a topic I enjoybecause it just makes the lesson so much easier if you like whatyou are doing. Even though there are a lot of good parts to school, there are also some bad ones. I really dont like the pressure ofexams. If it was just a question paper, it wouldnt be so bad, but Ithink the pressure that is put on you to do well and achieve yourtarget marks make them much worse and a lot more stressful.Sometimes, when you are in the exam it can be hard to think ofanswers to questions that you know you know because of theatmosphere and pressures, and then when you walk out of theclassroom and think about it, you all of a sudden know the answerto the question, or realise that you answered a question wrong, which can be infuriating.
One of my favourite school moments happened just a fewweeks ago. Ive been a member of the athletics team since year 8and my favourite activities are the 100m sprint and the long jump.Sadly, were not allowed to be in the team in year 11 as were toldit will distract us from our GCSEs, and many of the exams takeplace during competition season, so we decided to have a groupphoto after our last tournament. We all clambered onto the highjump mat but none of us could stand up properly and we were allfalling over each other. It was a bittersweet moment as we werehaving so much fun but we knew it would be the last time we wereall together as a team. That photo will help me remember all thegood times we had together.
GCSE student Molly Pick describes how the prospect of the newschool year is filling her with a mixture of excitement and trepidation.

IMAGEKIVETON & WALES
Once the heart of the coalmining industry, the villages of Kiveton andWales are now very much forward-thinking and a great alternative to thecity centre. Phoebe Seymour looks at whats on offer.
Like salt and pepper or Ant and Dec, one cannottalk about Kiveton (or Kiveton Park, as it ismore formally known) without mentioningneighbouring village Wales.
The two villages were once the industrialpowerhouses responsible for much of thecoal in Britain with a mining history thatdates all the way back to the 16th century.
Kivetons industrial history also has stronglinks with cricket and football. Kiveton ParkColliery Cricket Club was formed in 1879and has been a member of the Bassetlawand District Cricket League since 1904.
Kiveton Park Football Club started around thesame time in 1892 and the club has played in theFA Cup on numerous occasions. The small village isalso a hothouse for a number of notable figures in football,as it is the birthplace of football manager Herbert Chapman, who issaid to be the man who made Arsenal Football Club what it istoday, and his brother Harry, who went on to play for SheffieldWednesday in the early 1900s.
These days, the long history of these quaint villages is evident inthe pit winding wheel based at the old Waleswood colliery, thegothic clock tower of the old colliery offices and the Elizabethan-style buildings, which can be identified by their white walls and
black wooden beams. Kiveton Park railway station, built in 1849, is both a historic site and another
way to reach Kiveton and Wales from bothSheffield and Rotherham.
Like any great country settlement, its anattractive destination for pub-goers, with anale trail that includes The Lord ConyersHotel, The Forge and The Waleswood.
All that pub-trekking can work up ahunger and there are a number ofrestaurants to choose from along Wales
Road, as well as a number of cafes andcoffee shops in the area. If youd rather get active, the surrounding
areas of Kiveton and Wales offer much more thanfootball and cricket, with nearby Rother Valley
Country Park providing a number of sports including golfand water sports.

Start a new activity this SeptemberLooking for a fun and challenging activity for your child this September? Drama schoolsoffer a lively environment to build confidence, have fun and make new friends.
Besides the obvious benefits of some physical activity and time away from screen games, children learn to communicate their ideas confidently, handle social situations and get someuseful skills for life. Having the challenge of putting on shows helps them work as a teamand gives them the confidence to perform in front of audiences.
Local schools, such as Stagecoach, give children the chance to perform in professionaltheatres, and also take exams which will help them ifthey decide to pursue any aspect of performing artsonce they leave school.
Performing arts can be a wonderful hobby, and forsome, a career.

Torrential downpourcant dampencommunity spirit When the heavens opened at a small charityfundraiser, organiser Donna Pynes heartsank thinking all her hard work inorganising the street party and BBQ wouldbe washed away. But it would take morethan a downpour to dishearten the 50-plusrevellers that braved the weather and the event raised just under 500. This brings the totalthat Donna has raised through various charity events to almost 3,000.
Richmond-based Donna was inspired to raise funds for Cancer Research and St Lukeshospice after losing close friend and neighbour Betty Wright to cancer and seeing manyfriends and family touched by the disease even her own mum suffered breast cancer butthankfully survived. Betty was cared for at St Lukes until she lost her battle.
Donnas next challenge is the St Lukes Night Strider on Saturday 17 October. Sheffieldsfirst night-time walk will see thousands of people take to the streets for a half marathon or10k through the city centre. For more information visit www.stlukeshospice.org.uk/events.

A sense of historyJust outside Dublin youll find stunning links courses steeped in tradition that offer a challenge toall types of golfer. John Murphy put them to the test.
One of the great pleasures of visiting older, well-establishedgolf clubs is absorbing the sense of history that pervadesboth clubhouse and course. One perfect example of this is Woodbrook Golf Club just outside
Dublin. Black and white framed photographs of star golfers from abygone era line the corridors: theres Dai Rees playing atWoodbrook, Peter Thompson, Max Faulkener, Brian Barnes, NeilColes and many more.
The sense of tradition extends to the grand clubhouse too, wherethe course director mentions with a smile to a visitor that the rulefor adults is the same as it is for juniors no hats in the clubhouseplease. His charming Irish delivery means both official and visitorlaugh and share a drink.
At Woodbrook the sense of eccentric history is reinforced by theactual design of the clubhouse it was formerly a cricket pavilionand bears testimony to the courses founder Sir Stanley Cochranesgreat love of the sport. A cricket bell, which tolled at the start andfinish of play, now hangs in the bar.
