Database Notes
SQL Server Express If you install and run SQL Server Express on the same machine as Kingdom, we recommend a workstation with a minimum of 4 GB of physical memory. Also note that performance can be substantially improved for large projects by adding additional RAM.
If multiple users are going to access the SQL Server Express projects, you should install SQL Server Express on a network accessible machine. With the Auto version of SQL Server Express, if the instance is on the network, the Kingdom projects must also be on the network, not on individual workstations.
If you have installed SQL Server Express on a networked server and you are using the Manual portability configuration, you must run the SQL Server Express Management Tools from that server in order to make projects portable or re-attach portable projects.
Oracle Kingdom requires Oracle users to have CREATE VIEW System Privileges. Your Oracle DBA may need to add this privilege for each Oracle user before opening or creating Kingdom projects.
GeoSyn users: GeoSyn requires the 32-bit Oracle client. Install both the 32-bit and 64-bit clients.

Upgrading Projects to Kingdom 2015 There are several important changes introduced with Kingdom 2015 that affect your ability to work with projects from earlier versions of Kingdom as well as the hardware on which you can install the program. For example, Kingdom 2015 is a 64-bit application and can only be installed on computers with a 64-bit processor.
• Kingdom 2015 is not compatible with previous versions of Kingdom. Once you upgrade to Kingdom 2015, any existing project you try to open with Kingdom 2015 must be upgraded and once upgraded projects are no longer usable by any previous version of Kingdom. This means anyone who needs to access a project upgraded to Kingdom 2015 requires a Kingdom 2015 license.
• Kingdom 2015 does not support Microsoft Access. If you want to continue using projects that are currently in Access, you must convert the project database to SQL Server, SQL Server Express, or Oracle, and then upgrade the project to Kingdom 2015.
• There are some special considerations for Kingdom projects in a SQL Server multi-project database (one database with multiple Kingdom projects) rather than a single project database (a separate database for each Kingdom project). Once you upgrade at least one project in a multi-project database, you can no longer create new projects in that database with prior versions of Kingdom. Also, you cannot create any new projects in a multi-project database until at least one project in that database has been upgraded to the current version. However, you can open earlier versions of projects with earlier versions of Kingdom.
For a complete discussion of how to upgrade your projects to Kingdom 2015, refer to the Kingdom Installation Guide on the Kingdom release website (login required)
The Kingdom Demo Projects The Kingdom demo projects have been upgraded and require Auto SQL Server Express to open. SQL Server Express is available from the Kingdom release website (login required)
If need to obtain your software on physical media (DVD), contact one of our Customer Care Centers of Excellence to order.
License Server Version 8.5.5 If you are upgrading an existing license server, keep in mind that the latest version, 8.5.5, requires a 64-bit operating system.
• If your current license server is installed on a 32-bit computer, you will need to install the new license server on a 64-bit computer. After installation you can download new feature keys.
• If your current license server is already installed on a 64-bit computer, you will need to uninstall the current license server before installing the new one.
Note: If upgrading on an existing computer, save a copy of the feature key file - lservrc - from the existing installation directory. After installing version 8.5.5, copy this file into the new installation directory. You can also download new feature keys from My Account on the IHS Kingdom website.

Known Issues .NET 3.5 installation on Windows 8.x
On Windows 8 and Windows 8.1, the download and installation of .NET Framework 3.5 is handled by the OS. Installation is designed to trigger an OS download of .NET 3.5 but this could break if the computer does not have access to Microsoft’s downloads on the internet.
Install .NET Framework 3.5 from a Windows 8.x DVD. To download .NET Framework 3.5 go to: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443(v=vs.110).aspx
SQL Server Express Issue If you have SQL Management Studio 2008 (x64) installed the SQL Express install will fail.
• Manually uninstall SQL Management Studio 2008 (x64) • Manually upgrade it to SQL Management Studio 2008 RS (x64) SP1 or higher.
OpenSpirit not supported on Windows 8 Kingdom Connect and KDM will both be required to run on Win7 until OpenSPirit releases a Windows8 compatible version
Regional Settings The regional settings for Windows must be set to use a period instead of a comma for the decimal point. The default in many European countries is to use a comma. To change the regional settings, follow these steps:
1. Exit all running applications.
2. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Regional and Language Options.
3. Click Customize next to the regional setting.
4. If the Decimal symbol is a comma, then click the drop-down arrow beside Decimal symbol and select period.
5. Click OK and OK again on the original window.
Error 19 while Applying Feature Keys Users may see error 19 while applying Web Feature Keys when running Kingdom for the first time with a standalone license on Windows 7. This can happen when the User Account Control (UAC) is turned on. The default for UAC is enabled. The workaround is to use the right mouse button menu option "Run As Administrator" when starting Kingdom the first time.
Attempts to download keys twice in the same 24-hour period may also result in an error. In this event, remove or rename the lservrc file in the software installation folder:
• Standalone: C:\Program Files\IHS\KingdomSuite • Networl License Server: C:\Program Files\IHS\KingdomSuite\SMT Network License Server 8.x

Known Issues Exporting Polygons as ESRI Shape Files
Kingdom 8.8 introduced the option to export polygons (fault, planimeter, and culture) as shape (*.shp) files. This export does not create the database (*.dbf) file and therefore cannot be imported into other applications. These shape files can be imported into Kingdom projects as culture layers. Trace Calculations > Time to Depth Conversion Converting velocities from time to depth using trace calculations time-to-depth conversion has a known issue when the resulting converted “Z” value is lower than the bottom depth computed from the original time velocity volume. The following are alternative workflows: • Lower the maximum Z depth value in the time <> depth conversion options
menu. • If you are computing velocities from grids, re-compute the original time velocity
volume with a greater end time to handle deeper depths. • Compute the velocity volume from grids in the depth domain to a user-defined
bottom depth. This issue will be considered for an enhancement in a future release.
