WHAT IS CYBERPATRIOT? CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Education Program. At the center of CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition. The competition puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. In the rounds of competition, teams are given a set of virtual images that represent operating systems and are tasked with finding cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the images and hardening the system while maintaining critical services in a six hour period. Teams compete for the top placement within their state and region, and the top teams in the nation earn all- expenses paid trips to Washington, DC for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money. If you are interested in participating please let me know very soon. What the activity will involve: Team training and practice sessions - 2 hr sessions 2-3 times a month running from late Sept - Jan/Feb Practice and competition events in Oct, Nov, Dec, and Jan Networking events in Jan and Feb Training and practice sessions most likely to be help on Saturdays (schedule TBD) Competition events will be on weekends either Fri, Sat, or Sun What the team will look like: The team will consist of 6 cadets, with one serving as a captain for the team. Team will be coached and mentored by myself and 2nd Lt Hobbs (both have IT backgrounds) Eligibility requirements: o must be a CAP member o must be in high school (or equivalent if home schooled) throughout the competition season (Oct 2014 - Mar 2015) o High speed internet and access to PC/Mac at home (preferred) o Must be able to attend training, practice, and competition events regularly and consistently Next steps: If you are interested reply to this e-mail and let me know or give me a call at 952-882-8663 (h) I will work with Dept Commander of Cadets Cpt Craig to finalize the roster over next couple of weeks Let me know if you have any questions.
