According to ICAO long-term traffic forecasts, total passenger traffic of theMID region is expected to grow by around 4.6 per cent annually up to 2045,the second fastest growth among all regions after Asia and Pacific.MID Region is expected to be the fastest growing region in terms of freighttraffic growth, and is projected to grow at 5.4 per cent annually up to 2045.

Air transport supports 2.4 million jobs and USD 130 billion in GDP in the Middle East. With sporting events such as the Olympics and the football World Cup providing an additional boost, passenger traffic growth and load factors achieved in the past years are in line with the world average.

The CASP-MID established on 30 June 2012 when 11 States unanimously agreed to establish the programme in Manama, Bahrain. The CASP-MID Programme aims at ensuring compliance with international Conventions, ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices and guidance material related to aviation security and facilitation by enhancing implementation capabilities of the Programme’s participating Member Administrations. CASP-MID has started its second phase (2018-2022) and is being hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh since 2019. Phase II of the programme will continue the role of CASP-MID as a Middle East regional structure for cooperation and coordination in AVSEC/FAL in addition to: Qualification of 16 Aviation Security National Inspectors Course (NIC). Supporting AVSEC training for aviation security personnel Prioritize targeted and customized assistance and sustainable capacity building within Member Administrations as well as greater cooperation and coordination in aviation security matters among Members using regional assets. Increase assistance in the implementation of National Aviation Security Programmes and provide assistance in the removal of ‘Lack of Effective Implementation’ as identified during USAP audits and other evaluations.
