WHO ARE THE IBANS ?Belong to the Dayak race• A branch of Dayak’s borneo • Strong and successful tribe

Mostly located in Sarawak• Total population of 666,034• Some still live in

longhouses(modernized with facilities)

Known as Sea Dayaks• During the british colonial

CULTURE, FOODS AND FESTIVAL

Culture

• Music : percussion oriented (sapek, engkumurung)

• Dance : Ngajat dance to entertain people and need precise movement

• Clothes : Men : sirat(bottom), headgears

• Marriage : arranged, usually paired with cousins

Foods

• Tuak : home brewed rice wine(refusing is impolite)

• Pansuh : Have special aroma, cooked dishes in bamboo stem over fire

Festival

• Gawai Festival : Dayak – harvesting Antu – for the deads Kenyalang-hornbill

• Shoot traditional blowpipe

• Cock fights

Iban’s tatoo• Used ancient dye-recipe by using

special tools• Women : vital elements for

beauty (small dots, bracelet, ring, limited design around arms) (for beauty purposes)

• Men : scorpion, brinjal flower• (usually around the throat, neck,

chest and upper leg) (to show ‘pangkat’)
