Programs: What makes the Diploma Program special?A rigorous two year pre-university course that leads to examinations.

• Designed for students aged 16 to 19 (Grades 11 – 12 in Peel)

• Diploma students take six subjects plus they write a 4,000 word extended essay, complete a course in theory of knowledge, and complete a number of creativity, action and service (CAS) projects.

How do I earn my IB Diploma?3 HL and 3 SL subjects • All subjects graded 1 – 7 • 6 subjects x max 7 points + 3 DP Points = 45 possible DP Points

You must score 24 points or more between all of your IB exams to get a diploma. If you score 24 points or more, you will receive your diploma if:• All CAS requirements have been met.• There is no "N" awarded for theory of knowledge, the extended essay, or a contributing subject. • There is no grade E awarded for theory of knowledge and/or the extended essay.• There is no grade 1 in any subject/level.• There are no more than two grade 2s awarded (SL or HL).• There are no more than three grade 3s or below awarded (SL or HL).• Overall, there are no more than three grades 3 or below.• At least 12 points have been gained on higher level • At least 9 points have been gained on standard level subjects (candidates who register for two standard level subjects

must gain at least 5 points at standard level).• The final award committee has not given the candidate a penalty for academic misconduct

Will my marks be lower?

Prof Bill Anderson (University of Waterloo Engineering)Inquiry: Looked at 4000 applicants in a regular Ontario high school program (so all the courses are the same) and over 300 applicants in a full IB program in Ontario I used statistical methods to compare the two groups on the following criteria: do IB applicants tend to have lower admission averages than regular applicants?

Results: For admission averages, Prof. Anderson found that IB applicants had a mean admission average of 90.3%, while regular Ontario applicants had a mean of 88.2%.

The aims of the geography HL course are to enable students to:

*develop an understanding of the interrelationships between people, places, spaces and the environment*develop a concern for human welfare and the quality of the environment, and an understanding of the need for

planning and sustainable management*appreciate the relevance of geography in analyzing contemporary issues and challenges, and develop a global

perspective of diversity and change.

Integrated Science

Tackling the global challenges of climate change, pandemics, and new energy sources requires research in more than a single field of science. Modern scientists must have a more multi-disciplinary foundation, and be encouraged to ask creative, critical, interdisciplinary questions, while possessing a wide range of communication tools to provide answers. The Honours Integrated Sciences (iSci) program at McMaster University has been designed for this explicit purpose.

Psychology SL:

Knowledge about brain function and behaviour is of considerable benefit to students studying other science degrees. …develop sound analytical

skills through the application of scientific method.

Answering questions around how and why we behave the way we do
