3rd November 2015

To whom it may concern,

It was recently brought to my attention that discussions are being held in relation to the naming of

the Meadow Flat Hall. I would like to submit this letter in relation to this and my understanding that

the hall was going to be named in memory of the late Mac Scott.

In 1994 my husband and family moved to the small community of Meadow Flat and after been

welcomed to the community by Mac Scott, we were invited to attend the local Meadow Flat hall for

the local dance; this was one of many whilst we lived in the area.

In 1994 my husband and I became involved with the Meadow Flat hall and the Progress Association

and over the next 10 years attended all meetings, functions and working bee’s held at the hall.

On the 27th July 1999 at a Progress Association meeting discussions were had in relation to Mac’s

current health as a result of his stroke in September 1998, President Warren Ward made a motion to

name the Meadow Flat Hall “The Mac Scott Memorial Hall” in dedication to him where he was one

of the 5 men who had built the hall and over the next 45 years became an integral part of the hall

not only as its president but also an active member in organising functions and working bee’s to

maintain the hall, he served in local government for 38 years and was a working member of the

Meadow Flat Bush Fire Brigade for 45 years. The motion was seconded by Tracey Borg.

In 2002 Mac Scott passed away which was a great loss not only to the Progress Association and the

hall to which he had been president of for 45 years, but it was also a big loss to the local community.

Mac Scott was ‘Meadow Flat’; he welcomed new families into the community and would go out of

his way to make everyone feel a part of the community.

As a committee member it was my understanding and also the understanding of my husbands who

had taken up the role of President following Mac’s passing that the Hall would be renamed “The

Mac Scott Memorial Hall” It was also discussed at that meeting on the 29/08/1999 that a photo

would be purchased to hang in the hall, which I believe was purchased and held by his daughter

Maree Statham.

Finally, I would like to add that I don’t believe that there would be any other person within the

Meadow Flat community that contributed even half as much as Mac had, he was 78 years old when

he passed away and within that time he spent over half of his life working and supporting the local

community and the families that lived in it. I believe that naming the hall “The Mac Scott Memorial

Hall” would be a fitting tribute to a remarkable man.

If you or any person requires any further clarification or information please feel free to contact me.

Yours Faithfully

Renaming Proposals for Public Comment

The Community is invited to make comment on the following three renaming proposals:

1. A proposal to rename the Meadow Flat Hall to the Mac Scott Memorial Hall in recognition of Mr Mac Scott.

Mac Scott, was a Meadow Flat grazier, president of the old Blaxland Shire Council and became an alderman on Lithgow Council for a time after the two councils were merged in April 1977.

2. A proposal to rename the Lithgow Aquatic Centre to the J M Robson Aquatic Centre in honour of Jim Malone Robson.

Jim Robson served as an alderman on Lithgow City Council for twenty-one years and as Mayor for ten of those years. He was instrumental in the establishment of the new hospital in Lithgow and having Lithgow Pool built.

3. A proposal to name the un-named park on Maple Crescent Lithgow to the Kiddle Park in recognition of Max and Molly Kiddle.

Max and Molly Kiddle were instrumental in raising funds for Careflight for many years in the local area, and were extremely well known to many residents.

Public comments on these proposals should be forwarded in writing by Friday 11 March 2016.

I would like to see the Lithgow aquatic centre retain the name of the Lithgow War Memorial

Pool , like it used to be. The pool was built from funds raised locally and is still listed under the name on

the council website. The new indoor pool could be named after Jim Robson. Why does everything have

to be changed?
