One young man sought him out with the question, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life” (Matthew 19:16)? This young man had the right question and right direction but the wrong demeanor. There comes a moment, a day, a time in our life when we will have the thought and genuinely wonder, is this all life has to offer/is there something more to have in this life? Some will take the direction of trying to fill their void or their emptiness by looking into the relief of the world. What they find is, that relief is only temporary and never able to fully satisfy their need. Hearts feel empty and lonely, so they do and believe anything in order to not feel empty and lonely. They need some kind of change, some kind of fulfillment. Jesus Christ is the reason you change your life. If you’ve changed your life because of a spouse or a friend or because you think it will gain you something personally or politically through an association with power or influence, your heart is still doomed to an eternity of separation, because you did not believe in Jesus Christ, you believed in someone else and what they could do for you. Leaving everything behind for Jesus, and changing your life for His sake, is the only way to find true salvation. For this wealthy young man, his direction was to approach Jesus with a question of the heart which would impact his life. Yet when we come to the Lord to have our needs met, we must come with a submissive and contrite heart, a heart that is fully confident in His way and totally willing to admit the answer is not found in our way! The young man had the right question and direction, but the wrong demeanor. “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; After the young man went away, there is another answer we see, that is implied although not spoken. When Jesus said, give up your possessions, and the young man didn’t, he walked away from Jesus and Jesus let him. Jesus did not modify His answer to the young man just to get him to stay. Some Christians refuse to draw boundaries in the lives of people, because they believe it violates the principle of love. I love how Mark relays this moment Jesus has, “Then Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, “One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me” (Mark 10:21). I hope you know, it is the love of our Lord which compels us to leave behind whatever keeps us from Him, and come into the boundless love of His Lordship! and come, follow Me” (Matthew 19:21). What does Jesus ask us to surrender for him? I’m not convinced this young man was entirely self absorbed. He could have been, but I think he was more like you and me than we care to admit. He was truly puzzled, “How does this apply to me?” You see he asked, in light of all the good things that were in his life, “What do I need to do? Am I that bad?” You may not be like this young man, who had great possessions, and as this encounter ends, he went away sorrowful, because the Lord asked him to give up his possessions and he couldn’t.

“I Hope You Know” I Surrender All

People always sought Jesus to ask Him something.

One young man sought him out with the question, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may

have eternal life” (Matthew 19:16)? This young man had the right question and right direction but the

wrong demeanor. There comes a moment, a day, a time in our life when we will have the thought and

genuinely wonder, is this all life has to offer/is there something more to have in this life? Some will take the

direction of trying to fill their void or their emptiness by

looking into the relief of the world. What they find is, that relief is only temporary and never able to fully

satisfy their need. Hearts feel empty and lonely, so they do and believe anything in order to not feel empty

and lonely. They need some kind of change, some kind of fulfillment.

Jesus Christ is the reason you change your life. If you’ve changed your life because of a spouse or a

friend or because you think it will gain you something

personally or politically through an association with power or influence, your heart is still doomed to an

eternity of separation, because you did not believe in Jesus Christ, you believed in someone else and what

they could do for you. Leaving everything behind for Jesus, and changing your life for His sake, is the only

way to find true salvation. For this wealthy young man, his direction was to

approach Jesus with a question of the heart which

would impact his life. Yet when we come to the Lord to have our needs met, we must come with a submissive and contrite heart, a heart that is fully confident in His way and totally willing to admit the answer is not

found in our way! The young man had the right question and direction, but the wrong demeanor.

“If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven;

After the young man went away, there is another

answer we see, that is implied although not spoken. When Jesus said, give up your possessions, and the

young man didn’t, he walked away from Jesus and Jesus let him. Jesus did not modify His answer to the

young man just to get him to stay. Some Christians refuse to draw boundaries in the lives of people,

because they believe it violates the principle of love. I love how Mark relays this moment Jesus has, “Then

Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him,

“One thing you lack: Go your way, sell whatever you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure

in heaven; and come, take up the cross, and follow Me” (Mark 10:21). I hope you know, it is the love of

our Lord which compels us to leave behind whatever keeps us from Him, and come into the boundless love

of His Lordship!

and come, follow Me” (Matthew 19:21). What does

Jesus ask us to surrender for him? I’m not convinced this young man was entirely self absorbed. He could

have been, but I think he was more like you and me than we care to admit. He was truly puzzled, “How

does this apply to me?” You see he asked, in light of all the good things that were in his life, “What do I

need to do? Am I that bad?” You may not be like this young man, who had great possessions, and as

this encounter ends, he went away sorrowful,

SO MANY THINGS, SO MANY YOUNG PEOPLE! Last Monday at the Bible Study both groups had some of

their biggest crowds yet! Thanks to the Dotsons and Newsoms for leading these times of extra

growth! WEDNESDAY BROUGHT an overflowing

Lighthouse! We had no less than 55 for some delicious enchiladas and a lot of fun together.

Thanks to Jim & Leslie Hudgins and Chris & Jenny

Teet and their families for hosting the wonderful time! Because of the numbers, our classroom

lacked several chairs. Fortunately the 20/30s class met in the auditorium for the evening allowing us

to overtake their classroom. During our class time we continued to look at leadership the way the

Lord instructs us. What an impact we can have on others just through our example as we deeply

studied 2 Corinthians 5.

THURSDAY BEGAN WITH our largest number for our Prayer Breakfast as we had around

25 for a light breakfast, a brief devotional, and a chain prayer. No better way to get your morning

started! SATURDAY WE HAD A FUN TIME with our

Sparks & Intermediates and their families. Some 30 Sparks & Intermediates joined us for a time of

bowling, inflatables, and games. Thanks to all who

went for this great time! OFF FOR WEEKEND TO CHATTANOOGA with

several from our 20/30s group. We will have an amazing time as we spend a few days studying

John 5:11. We will also have some times to laugh, share, and relax. We leave on Friday at 5 and

Return on Sunday by 4. There are a few spots left if anyone would still like to go, just let me know!

SPEAKING OF RETREATS… The Senior

Spotlight/Senior High Retreat is coming soon! Be looking for applications coming out in the next few

weeks. It is always a highlight and a special time for our Seniors. Plan now to join us!

IT IS AN EXCITING TIME as we seem to have new faces at everything we do. The most exciting thing is that

with those new faces, they soon become faces we see at most

everything else we do. Continue to encourage others to join us for all we have planned. Whether that be a Fireside, Bible Class, 5th Quarter,

Lighthouse, or anything else, we would love to have them visit and join us. Through your example, encouragement, and opportunities to evangelize, you may be surprised at what an impact you can make. As we continue to strive to be what God would have us to be through His

Word, as we right our wrongs, and as we continually seek ways to serve Him better today than we have in the past, may we always… follow His

path, -Craig
