    As the trailer begins, all you can hear is asynchronous sounds of agirl screaming. Visually as an audience, all we can see is a blackscreen. This creates a sense of entrapment and desperation and

    already as an audience we feel involved in the fear being created. We also hear a man screaming for help. He says the words Oh

    God! This makes the audience question who this voice belongsto. The fact that there are no visual images means the audiencefeel in the dark about whats going on. Furthermore, they really

    focus on the frantic dialogue being said. We can hear a banging sound as well. This creates an image in our

    heads of lots of pain being inflicted upon the person. It alsocreates a creepy atmosphere.

    A fade to black is then used to express a feeling ofenigma. It makes the audience feel trapped as theyhave no idea whats going on nor whats about tohappen. It also builds up the unknown.

    The sound of the man screaming then stops and wethen hear the words Its date night said by a womanin a frightful and vicious way. This is ironic as weusually associate date night being a positive andenjoyable event. Shortly after, we hear the non-

    diegetic sound of a knife cutting something, thisemphasises the elements of pain being conducted.

    The non-diegetic music then starts to pick up the pace,this creates a sense of intense action. We also hearnon-diegetic sounds of a camera taking pictures. Thishelps to set the scene.

    We hear the dialogue Hello in a females voice beforeactually seeing who the identity of this person is. Thiscreates a sense of the unknown. After this voiceovertakes place, the person who said it is introduced as thefirst character. She is portrayed as innocent andfriendly, making the trailer initially not seem sothreatening. However, this just makes the audiencewait in anticipation as to when the horror genre isabout to be displayed.

    Text is then shown Katie has big dreams.However, the word Katie is in red which makes

    something positive seem very peculiar andalarming.

    It also suggests ideas of future bloodshed within

    the narrative.

    There is then a quick static image montage of Katie

    modeling, this visually shows to the audience that she isliving her dream. Although everything seems calm andnormal, the audience still feel on edge as to when thenegative change is going to happen.

    Text is then shown again, however the one word that is inred is Dreams this makes the audience question whather real dreams actually are. It creates a very eerie feel,and we wonder whether she actually is innocent or not.

    We then see her reaction to something terrible asshe is screaming, however we do not know what

    she is frightened of. This also makes us anaudience feel incredibly fearful as we do not knowwhere the danger is coming from.

    The camera then shows a man who we werebriefly introduced to at the start of the trailer, indarkness taking pictures of Katie sleeping. Thisrepresents him as a creepy stalker who has a dark

    obsession for her. We feel as if the trailer hasalready tricked us as when we were firstintroduced quickly to this man, he didnt seemvery important to the narrative or dangerous.

    Text is then shown again Her worst nightmare.This creates a very creepy and threatening feel as

    before it was talking about her dreams and nowthe word has suddenly changed to nightmare. Thismakes us wonder what has gone wrong. It createsa sense of mystery. Furthermore, it suggests that

    her short period of a dream is over now and she isgoing down a very dark and dangerous path.

    Fragmented images are then shown, howeverthey are broken up by black flashes tohighlight disorientation and create a chaoticatmosphere. The images are quite blurry andfast paced which helps to show the rise inaction.

    A close up is then shown of her hands grippingfor some sense of hope or freedom.

    A blurred image of the man is then shown. The effect of this isthat it hides his real identity, strengthening themes of theunknown. Katie is shown to be underwear, conveying hervulnerability and weakness to the given situation.

    There is then a fade to black to express that she is trapped. Dueto the dark screen, we also feel trapped with her which makesus feel frightened and alarmed

    The third character is then properly introduced, however the

    image of him is blurred to represent his identity of a kindphotographer, which is who we originally thought he was, isfake. The shot shows his eyes looking towards the camera, thisincludes the audience and incorporates them in the fear Katie isexperiencing.

    There is then a sound bridge of Katie screaming and at thismoment in time, the non-diegetic music completely stops. Thiscreates a vast build up in the levels of tension and suspense.

    Classical contrapuntal non-diegetic music is then played.Visually we are seeing Katie in a red seductive dressrunning in need of help. Theref0re the non-diegetic track

    is ironic as all is not calm or peaceful. A close up is shownof her bare foot, which stresses her vulnerability.

    The next shot we see is of the men saying There is nocleaning this up. This portrays the fact that theyve gonetoo far, and have done terrible things to Katie. Thismakes the audience feel very fearful.

    A low- angle point of view shot is then shownfrom the inside of a dug out hole, looking up at

    the two men. The hole has been dug out for agrave for Katie. The shot used is very effective asthe audience feel just as frightened and trappedas Katie feels. It also stresses how helpless Katie

    is. A rosary is then thrown down. All the audience can now see is complete

    darkness, apart from Katies bloody face. This

    emphasizes the theme of violence. She says thewords Dont let me die, please This makes thinkits over for Katie. It also shows her characterslowly deteriorating under the intense danger she

    is going through.

    A close up is then shown of the rosary. This suggests thatthe only possible person or option left to help her surviveis through God.

    The non-diegetic music then changes from the classicalmusic to a more eerie track. This allows a change tohappen in the narrative. This is also down through thefade to black.

    The fact that the audience are now seeing Katie awayfrom all the danger and looking free makes them feel veryconfused as to how this has happened. The green light onher makes her across as evil and revengeful.

    The non-diegetic track then stops and all we can hearis a ticking sound. This makes the audience feeluneasy as time is running out. It also symbolises hercomplete change in character and portrays the factshe will never go back to that helpless victim again.

    A shallow focus over the shoulder shot is thenshown of the man looking into a broken glass mirror. This represents that there is a change in the roles ofthe villain and victim. The audience feel unknownnow to who they can trust and who they cannot.They feel distant to the character of Katie as she is

    not who they originally thought she was. It showsthat what has happened to her has had verynegative effects on her current behaviour. Thisentices the audience into wanting to go and see thefilm.

    There is then a fade to black which breaks up theongoing violence. The audience perceive the factthat Katie has become what she was onceincredibly afraid of. They gain the knowledge thatshe is getting revenge on them. The use of greencolours helps to portray her vengeful personality.

    A montage of different images are then shown.One including a church. This is ironic as she is notconforming to the standards a religion wouldexpect. Another including her forcing his headdown a toilet, this stresses her vicious naturetowards him.

    Dialogue is then said by Katie You think that hurts,you just wait! This conveys she has turned into ahuman monster. This idea is emphasized as there is nonon-diegetic music being played. This creates a verycold and threatening atmosphere for the audience.

    Non-diegetic rock music then slowly starts to playwhich creates an uncomfortable and suspensefulfeeling within the audience.

    The ending shot of her slamming the car boot downrepeatedly highlights her aggression and anger towhat had been previously done to her.
