• Describe unique mix designs: 7k Column & Shear Wall Mix

• Describe unique specifications/requirements (flatness, color, etc.): -FF (Floor Flatness) of 20 on PT Deck-Rough sawn finish at level 1 exterior benches-Deck layout markings needed to be minimal with exposed concrete ceilings.

• Describe placement challenges or unique techniques: -During placement, only one truck could be pumped at a time due to lane restrictions and existing above ground utilities-Outlets formed into exposed columns due to location of FF&E, which was challenging to keep in correct location during vibration and placement of concrete columns.-Placed exposed decks during Oregon’s rainy season, starting November 2018 and placing the last deck in April 2019.-Install of form savers from shear wall core into deck. This was challenging due to the quantity of form savers required. In a typical 7.5” thick deck, 3 form savers were stacked on top of each other. Each form saver had a 2” cap diameter and needed to fit around the stacks of #11 rebar.

• Describe other special technical aspects: -Placed columns and core on the same day that we poured PT Deck. Poured deck 6am – 10am, core 1pm – 3pm and columns 3pm – 5pm. While the core was being placed and when the deck was set up enough to walk on, the column forms were placed on top of the just placed deck.

• Narrative space, if needed:

Hyatt Centric Hotel is a 15 level, 220 key, full service hotel with a full restaurant and bar on the main level, meeting rooms and fitness center on the second level, and thirteen levels of guestrooms. The project is on a quarter block in downtown Portland with two adjacent, occupied buildings on the west and south sides, the streetcar and catenary line on the east side and a major bridge head on the north side. A level three courtyard is included with stormwater planters, generator and mechanical equipment. The main roof includes an eco-roof, with two mechanical screen areas housing a mechanical penthouse and HVAC equipment for the guestroom tower. The project’s foundation system included 229 4-foot diameter CDSM (cement deep soil mixing) columns at an average depth of 35 feet. These were installed beneath the 72” and 48” mat footings. Within the hotel, there are exposed concrete floors, ceilings and columns in the guest rooms, lobby, reception area, restaurant & bar. The structural concrete core includes three elevators, housekeeping, electrical and low voltage distribution on each level. A partial basement houses a fire water storage tank, electrical, MDF, water and bike storage rooms.
