SINATRA’S PALM SPRINGS
A Guided Tour of Frank’s Hangouts
With Optional Lunch at Melvyn’s
Wednesday, February 8, 2017
He sang about Chicago and New York, but Frank Sinatra called Palm Springs “home” for more
than 50 years. The ‘Chairman of the Board’ and his Rat Pack buddies lived, loved and partied hard here. This new
narrated driving tour led by a local step-on guide allows you to follow in Ol’ Blue Eyes’ footsteps to examine this
legendary man’s life as you are immersed in the surroundings of his Palm Springs years. The focus of this
fascinating tour is Frank, his life, his family, his loves, his times, and his legacy. As we arrive into town, we begin
with a look at Melvyn’s Restaurant at the elegant Ingleside Inn. Still frequented by celebrities, it was a favorite of
Frank’s and was the location he chose for his pre-wedding party to Barbara. Little seems to have changed since then
– not even the waiters, many of whom have worked since Frank was a regular. Although he could often be found
glued to the bar, Frank’s corner table is still here. For those who desire, enjoy an optional three-course lunch with
choice of entrée (Melvyn’s famous cobb salad, chicken pot pie, Sole De Piccata or sliced filet mignon), or enjoy
lunch on your own at one of the eateries in downtown Palm Springs. Our driving tour continues to “Sinatra’s
Church” – built by Frank and his mother “Dolly,” here we will explore Frank’s upbringing and faith. See where it all
started for Sinatra on the edge of the Old Movie Colony in Palm Springs – his legendary status will come alive with
stories almost too fascinating to believe. See his former Rancho Mirage estate and a visit to the city park where,
believe it or not, Frank will describe this park he so dearly loved – in his own voice! Pay your respects to Frank at
his final resting place, one of the top five most visited celebrity grave sites in America. Also buried here are the
Gabors, Sonny Bono, Broadway composer Frederick Lowe and 40s movie stars William Powell and Betty Hutton.
We’ll also make a stop at Hadley’s, famous for their breads, nuts and date shakes. Member Price: $65/$109 with
included lunch; Non-Member Price: $75/$119 with included lunch Depart: 8:30 am. Return: 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, March 14, 2017
Today we are joined by professional step-on guide, Curt, who is a history buff with an

was a great decade to be alive! As a result of the extensive modernization that took place in L.A. in the 1920s, the
city went from being a fairly ordinary city with good weather, to being called “The Emerald City.” On this downtown
L.A. adventure, you’ll get a glimpse into the history and panache of this era with visits to a number of memorable
and iconic sites. Visit City Hall, which played host to the notorious courtroom trials of the 1920s and has been
featured in countless films and television shows – the views from the observation deck on the 27th floor are
breathtaking! A docent-guided tour of the Foursquare Heritage Center – the restored home of the famous Evangelist,
Aimee Semple McPherson – who made a huge impact on this area in the 1920s as a media celebrity. The home has
been restored with its original furniture, photographs, props, and personal artifacts and the displays allow you to step
back in time. Visit the historic Angelus Temple which was built in 1923 under McPherson’s leadership. A driving
tour through downtown’s historic bank and theater districts that in the 1920s were considered the “Wall Street of the
West.” Tour inside the Central Library – built in 1926 and boasting stunning art and architecture. A guided walking
tour inside the luxurious Biltmore Hotel which opened in 1923 and has seen more than its fair share of scandal and
celebrities as it once played host to a Prohibition-era nightclub and the Academy Awards! In the Biltmore Hotel
restaurant, we’ll enjoy an included buffet lunch featuring a plated entrée, seafood and salad bar, a made-to-order
pasta bar and a dessert bar. Member Price: $96; Non-Member Price: $106 Depart: 8:00 a.m. Return: 6:00 p.m.

foodie! While we explore some of San Diego’s most unique and interesting neighborhoods, we’ll experience
first-hand the city’s burgeoning local food scene – most of the establishments we will visit have become

history, as well as sample delicious coal-fired, thin-crusted “craft pizza pies” at a trendy restaurant. The East

beer at a brewery considered to be one of the top craft breweries in San Diego County. While we taste in its
impressive tasting room located in the historic Wonder Bread building we’ll learn how San Diego has become
the “Micro Brewery Capital of America.” Ocean Beach is San Diego's funkiest beach town and it has been said

change its unique small town atmosphere. Here we will sample some down-home barbecue favorites at Phil’s
BBQ, voted “Best BBQ” by San Diego Magazine for 11 straight years and featured on the television show,
Man vs. Food. Hillcrest was one of San Diego’s first suburbs thanks to the streetcars that made it a convenient
connection to downtown; it has evolved into a community known for its diversity, theaters, shopping, and
fabulous restaurants, but it hasn’t lost its village feel! Here we will sample treats at a San Diego institution
