Human Centred Design integrates multidisciplinary expertise towards enhancing human well-being and empowering people. It leads to products, systems and services which are physically, perceptually, cognitively and emotionally intuitive to use. The mission of the Human Centred Design Institute (HCDI) is to support tomorrow’s designers by providing the tools needed to enhance well-being and empower people. The HCDI is active in the areas of augmented cognition, branding strategy, design strategy and innovation, ergonomics, human factors, human centred design process, inclusive design, information architecture and perception enhancement. The Human Centred Design Research Prize is supported by a donation from Brunel graduate and philanthropist Peter Ilori, founder of The Beauty Society, a national network of specialists in orthodontics, health and wellbeing. The £2000 prize is open to all Brunel University doctoral students who are performing research in areas of Human Centred Design. The prize is competitive with the winner selected by a five member panel of Human Centred Design experts. Selection will be performed based on the quality of the submission document which should consist of a maximum of 2500 words divided into the following sections: (1) Central concept or hypothesis of the PhD research, (2) Novelty of the chosen approach, (3) Novelty of the anticipated results, (4) Expected impact on the Human Centred Design profession, (5) Public engagement strategy adopted during the period of PhD study. The deadline for submission is January 20 th 2012. The winner of the Human Centred Design Research Prize will be formally announced on the Human Centred Design Institute’s website (http://hcdi.brunel.ac.uk) on February 6 th 2012. The prize winner will be expected to open a personal research blog on the HCDI website so as to regularly update the general public regarding new ideas and findings associated with the individual’s PhD research.
