At the back of the HUB-NSM unit are 2 connector positions. The wallbox connector cable (on the left) has an 8 conductor ribbon cable with a red tracer on wire #1. This connector is inserted with the red tracer facing toward the right. The HUB-NSM has 4 wallbox input ports. Each port can support unlimited wallbox models of the same type. Each wallbox input port uses 2 wires. Wallbox port #1 are the first 2 wires, which begin with the red tracer, the next 2 wires are for wallbox port #2, the next 2 port #3 and the last 2 wires are for port #4. The connector on the right is the NSM jukebox cable, the 3-pin connector at the other end plugs into the Control Unit board in your jukebox.

The front panel LED indicator shows the HUB-NSM activity status. When a wallbox selection is made, the LED will blink along with the received pulses. The LED also shows “programming status”. When the program plug is inserted, the LED remains on. After a program selection is made, the LED turns off to show “function completed“. When the selection is cancelled, the LED turns on to show “ready for next function”.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Symptom Possible Cause

The LED does not light after the jukebox is turned on. Jukebox connector cable is not attached properly. Jukebox computer is defective Defective HUB-NSM unit or cable.

When a wallbox selection was made, the LED did not blink.

No signal is being received from the wallbox. Defective HUB-NSM unit or wallbox cable. (Verify HUB-NSM operation, see ADAPTER TEST below)

After a wallbox selection is made, the song did not play. Wrong jukebox type was programmed. Wallbox signal is erratic. (see TECH NOTE below)

When a certain song was selected, a different song was played.

Wrong wallbox type was programmed. Wallbox signal is erratic. (see TECH NOTE below)

TECH NOTE Electrical pulses transmitted by the wallbox are generated by a contact arm rotating on a selector disc containing contact points. When these contacts become gummed up and corroded, the wallbox may not make the proper selection. Occasionally, these contacts require cleaning. They can be cleaned with a cloth saturated with isopropyl alcohol. Do not use emery cloth or sandpaper as this may remove the plating. On really worn wallboxes, where basic cleaning doesn’t seem to cure the problem, you may have successful results by using a low abrasive polish, such as “Scratch Out” or “Brasso”. This will make the contact surfaces shiny and smooth.

Wallbox Wiring Diagrams CAUTION: Do not attempt to hook up a wallbox power supply if you are not familiar with electrical wiring, consult with a qualified person or an electrician. Do not leave any wires exposed, always use wire-nuts or electrical tape on all connections. Improper wiring can result in a fire or shock hazard.

ADAPTER TEST

This test mode is used for checking the HUB-NSM operation or for detecting any signal presence from a wallbox. The Adapter Test is cancelled when the power is turned off.

1) Program any port number wallbox type to “00” 2) Make a wallbox selection or touch a 9-volt battery across a pair of unconnected HUB-NSM wallbox wires 3) Should play track 05 with the disc # equal to the port # plus the unit # offset (selection range for all 16 ports: 0105 to 1605) 4) Cancel the song play to restart test

Wallbox Wiring Diagrams

You will need a 25 to 30 volt transformer to power the wallbox. The power wires, from the transformer to the wallbox (COMMON and 25VAC), should be about 20AWG to 16AWG, depending on the wallbox distance and the number of wallboxes. The maximum distance should not be more than 150’. The minimum AC voltage at the furthest wallbox while operating should not be less than 20 VAC. The signal wires, from the wallbox to the hub (25VAC and SIGNAL), can be about 24AWG to 20AWG.
