Hello readers of the HuaFeng Magazine. My name is Sam Dotters-Katz, and I have been elected University of Oregon Student Body President for the 2013-2014 school year. It is an honor to be able to introduce myself in the pages of HuaFeng Magazine, which is one of the most exciting and fastest student programs at the UO. Chinese students make up the largest percentage of International Students here at UO, and it is important for this community to have a voice of its own. I look forward to working with Xueyang Ma and the entire team at HuaFeng. I have also promised Xueyang that I will get a RinRin profile, so expect a friend request soon.

I was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, but moved to Oregon when I was growing up. After High School, I attended the UO as an undergraduate, earning degrees in Political Science, and History. In college, I worked during the summertime as a forest firefighter. In my fourth year as an undergrad, I was elected ASUO President, so this will be my second time as President. Now, I am a second-year law student at UO, specializing in both tax law, and immigration law.

International Students are perhaps the most dynamic and fastest growing segments of the student body. With great diversity you enrich our school and all students with the broad backgrounds and cultures represent. However, I believe that the student government does not do enough to advocate for issues affecting International Students. For example, there are not enough opportunities for work-student or student jobs for International Students. We also do not do enough to properly resource International Student groups and programs. A key focus of my administration will be to work on these issues, and to improve the way the ASUO works with and for International Students.

杨玉环的回眸一笑,六宫粉黛便失了颜色;辛弃疾的蓦然一转身,发现灯火阑珊处的佳人;李煜的一回首,想起了繁华的故国的衰败;苏轼转身的一瞥,阴晴风雨都化作了过眼的烟云...那么,你的回首又看到了些什么?今天,华风的一回首,发现我们竟然不知不觉的走过了四年的旅程。前辈们花费心血一点一滴的创立出的华风,如今我们就在努力守护她成长。一路走来,从开始到现在,从渺小到壮大,风雨飘摇却坚定不移。在这奋斗的旅途中,我们渐渐的进步:从薄薄的黑白的杂志,发展成了精美的彩印;从单纯的中文文章,增添了更多英语的内容。过去的记忆,是不是夹杂着酸甜苦辣,汗水和泪水?但是回头看着来时的路,却是发自内心的微笑。文字力量太强大;她可以超越时间和空间,可以把不同国籍、肤色的人连接到一起。我们希望用这样的力量,给海外的留学生一份温暖,向异国的人们传播更多的中国文化。华风四周年,你我一同见证;而我们也会在这条奋斗的路上,继续向前走去。

Let’s celebrate the fourth-year anniversary of the HuaFeng Magazine! We are about to work as an individual and independent organization under the Associated Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO).

In the past four years, we have gone through numerous ups and downs; we have also overcome many obstacles and difficulties. And yet, we would like to take this opportunity to thank every individual who has made an impact on our magazine. Four years of history might not sound

long, but in these four years, HuaFeng has accumulated endless efforts of our members. HuaFeng keeps on reminding Chinese students who are studying abroad to bear in mind our cultural identity. Before writing this article, I have particularly spoken with a few former HuaFeng members to get a deeper understanding of HuaFeng’s history and HuaFeng as a whole.

At first, I thought I was only going to give an account of the history of the magazine. Yet, this isn’t

merely a piece of article on the history, I have truly been moved and motivated by their efforts. I would like to write this article and share with you this awe-inspiring history of HuaFeng Magazine.

2009

It all started in 2009. A group of UO students tried to spread and promote the Chinese cultural heritage via text. Yet, establishing a school magazine wasn’t as easy as you’d think. It was their passion and dreams that motivated them throughout the starting-up process. I have to mention that not only are both Zhang Xiaoou (Olivia) and Du Fangdian (Diam) the founders and leaders of HuaFeng, they are also the ones who have influenced me. Diam once mentioned the word “bridge” - the objective of the magazine is to build a bridge, a bridge between Chinese and non-Chinese students. Until now, our magazine continue to work our best in playing a significant role as a bridge and a platform.At the beginning, the team had only less than 10 people to determine the concept of HuaFeng as a publication. The first edition had a simple black and white layout. HuaFeng was gradually being spread within the small Chinese community in the school. The staff initially wanted to sell the first publication but due to the rough layout and the unseemly marketing method made it difficult for the magazine to be sold. This hit the team hard. In spite of that, the team did not give up. Olivia worked hard and made improvements based on the team’s failure. She edited the magazine layout from black and white to color. With this new attempt, HuaFeng Magazine made a huge step into the year of 2013 with a brand new layout.

2010

In 2010, HuaFeng seemed to have some slightly changes in the number of members.

Even though HuaFeng is in a small-scale and there was an increase of staff, the workload is unexpectedly heavy. HuaFeng editors and designers had to all-nighters to refine articles and design layouts. At the start, HuaFeng was only a coterie of friends and acquaintances in the Chinese community. It only revolved around the same social group. Therefore, it was harder to promulgate within the local community. Like most of the organizations, HuaFeng lacks the experience and budget, it was hard to publicize the magazine. Luckily, every member had the same vision of promoting Chinese cultures.I once asked our former Editor-in-Chief Xia Xige (Summer), “did you join HuaFeng because you wanted to look for job opportunities, or did you want to promote Chinese culture?” She genuinely replied, “If I just wanted to find something to do, I could have found something easier. Even though HuaFeng workload was as heavy as a 4-credit class, I continued to work in HuaFeng because I see its value and I believe in HuaFeng Magazine’s worthiness. To be honest, I think that the young generation living in this prosperous and harmonious society seldom cares about the culture and society in general. Although we might be influenced by the Western education in the States, we still have our own cultural identity. If nobody is willing to think about these problems and issues, then who would be the carrier of Chinese culture and how can carry out our missions? I think HuaFeng serves as a platform. Through HuaFeng, we are able to tell our own stories, reread the Chinese classics, display and explore the traditional and modern Chinese literature and art. We also welcome aspiring students who are interested in Chinese culture to express their opinions and thoughts via HuaFeng. Fortunately, I’m glad that the students were all working hard for HuaFeng and have contributed numerous beautifully written articles to the magazine.” After talking to Summer, the name of Lu Xin and Hi Shi, two famous Chinese literates. They were the “messengers” of disseminating Chinese cultures, the only differences were we are in different time

periods and places. Perhaps we might have huge accomplishments as they did, but we all have unyielding faith in HuaFeng Magazine. We believe that we could effectively spread Chinese cultural heritage and ultimately influence Oregon and even the West Coast in the future.As mentioned before, HuaFeng had experienced financial difficulties during this period. We were only about to have US$300 per month for our budget. Thankfully, Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) helped HuaFeng a lot by applying for financial requests to the ASUO. Through the conversation with Summer, I sensed that she was very grateful to CSSA as a supporting role. In fact, it is not easy for every Chinese student to study and live abroad. We should help each other and carry on to show our warmth and support within our community.

2011

As time goes by, HuaFeng started to realize its management issues. It was really hard to a sustain the magazine organization with only 10 staff. In 2011, HuaFeng branched out into the editing team, creative team, and the public relations team, but everyone did not have a clear job responsibility- Former manager of the magazine, Lee Zeyan told me that even though we only had around 10 staff, we had the enthusiasm and eagerness. The cohort of staff would go to the second floor in Friendly Hall to attend weekly meetings.Of course, all of the executive members

of HuaFeng wanted to find people who are talented and could contribute their skills to HuaFeng. When I asked Yan Qifeng (Eric), the present art director how did he become part of HuaFeng, he replied, “I bumped into Summer on time, she asked me if I was interested to work in HuaFeng. After getting to know the basic job and administration of HuaFeng, I immediately said yes.” With this inadvertent and casual “interview,” Eric had the opportunity to work for HuaFeng. Now, he is HuaFeng’s Art Director and is one of the backbone of our magazine. Gradually, the increasing number of new members helped to relieve the small party of our staff.

In 2011, the leaders of HuaFeng were still trying to find ways to strengthen our magazine. Improving the quality of the

magazine was definitely the major task. Typographical errors are the “enemies” of HuaFeng. Now, I know a lot of readers might think that typos are just trivial matters and editors do not need to take much time to correct them. This was exactly what I thought before I became part of the editorial team. With a conservative estimation, there are at least 15 featured articles in an issue. One article has an average of 2,000 words, so there would be approximately 30,000 words in a magazine. Imagine how hard is it to have less than a hundred typos within the 30,000 words. Editors and managers often had to pull all-nighters to refine articles and redesign the layouts. At this point,

I would like to show my gratitude and appreciation to our members once again: My fellow teammates and staff, thank you for all your efforts and hard work!

2012

In Winter 2012, I had the opportunity to join HuaFeng. I have to admit that I respect every one of the members as they all have strong management capabilities and skills. Take Summer as an example, she was well-organized with the schedule and the financial account. She did not only improve the overall of the content and layout of the magazine and raised the

circulation of the magazine, she also put forward a few proposals for the magazine. Other than that, Manager Cindy did a good job on leading the two editors. She is also the manager who has served HuaFeng for the longest period of time. I guess her capability had been well driven by the experience she had acquired throughout her job as a manager. Of course, there are some new members like Cao Rujun, Liu Siyang (Emily), and me. I still remember there were some seniors who were about to graduate during that time, the executives were carefully handing over their jobs to the new executive members. At the same time, the proposal of our magazine as an independent organization put forward

by Summer has already been formed and shaped. I still remember how excited and buoyant we were when Summer and Cindy told us the news during that meeting.Throughout 2012, HuaFeng has developed in different aspects. I asked Eric if there was any progression in terms of the design of the magazine. He said the progress of a magazine design and the layout is always the most obvious aspect. He told me he joined the design team because he was really interested in arts and design. However, he realized he was lacking of design skills, therefore he kept on designing and learning from his own experiences. He said that there was a time when the team chose to use red text on a black background. They didn’t know there was a problem until the magazine was published. The red texts were nearly invisible on the dark background! They have definitely learned from this mistake and they have been avoiding from similar errors since then. As the leader of the design team, Eric is trying his best to carry on building up the team spirit and their skills and creativity by training the new members.Moreover, Lu Hao, the new Editor-in-Chief in 2012, had further displayed the innovative team spirit of HuaFeng. Although she is in poor health, she managed to take the responsibility of being HuaFeng’s leader and all her featured articles were beautifully written. She kept on training new members, not only to improve the quality of HuaFeng, but also to reach more students and promote the Chinese cultural heritage.As part of HuaFeng, I do feel the happiness and the warmth of HuaFeng. One thing I have to mention is that the BBQ gathering we had in Spring was absolutely fun and relaxing. Like Zeyan has said, “Let’s grill our food together under the tantalizing aroma of the barbecuenext to the breezy lake.” I was a new member back then, but I didn’t feel uncomfortable with the group at all as everybody was so friendly and nice. I still remember the specific moment when I was standing by the lake chitchatting with other members. Yes, the weather was a bit chilly, but I feel the warmth of the members from the bottom of my heart. HuaFeng is just like a big family to me.

This year is HuaFeng’s fourth year after its establishment. In July, Huafeng will officially become an independent student organization at the U of O. Since its foundation, HuaFeng has really undergone enormous changes. Emily Liu, the current Editor-in-Chief, described that “at present, HuaFeng has a clear division of labor with three distinctive teams. The editing team has members who appreciates literature and have literary attainments; the design team has members who are mostly digital arts and photography majors or who have a strong interest in design; the public relations team has members who are mainly from the Business School and have strong communication and organization skills. I would say HuaFeng has developed into a student group with a higher standard. Moreover, the group of staff is growing diversely. As our main objective is to promote Chinese culture and our ideal goal is to be a bilingual magazine, we have recruited two American students who are passionate about Chinese cultures in order to expand our audience. They have definitely brought us a new and different perspective.”On top of that, the “newbies” who joined HuaFeng were no long newbies. They are now the leaders of HuaFeng. Every member has paid a lot of effort to develop his or her expertises. Asides from our Editor-in-Chief Emily, Manager Jason Huang and Manager Assistant Cao Rujun have also demonstrated their excellent leadership skills in guiding and fostering the whole team while promoting and extending our mission. We have also gained more audiences, and we are always in short supply of our magazine every term. An American student, who is a journalism major, has written an article on HuaFeng, titled “The Chinese Voice at The University of Oregon.” I believe that HuaFeng is the most representative Chinese voice at the U of O. Whenever I see people reading our magazine, I can’t help reminding myself of the objective of HuaFeng - to promote Chinese cultural heritage. I strongly hope that our readers will not be restricted to students at the U of O, but also to Eugene, to Oregon, and even to the States. I anticipate the day when HuaFeng can represent the Chinese voice in the United States!

今天,让我们一起见证历史

2009对于华风是很不平凡的一年,也正是这一年,一

群怀揣着梦想的年轻人,开始尝试着用文字来传播和发扬中国文化。 然而创办杂志谈何容易,好在有一批很有理想和抱负的中国学生积极的加入让华风 在 2009 年初见雏形。

在这里,我想提一下,这一批人里面不仅有杜方甸,还有张晓鸥,这些名字对小编来说如雷贯耳。不仅仅因为这些人是华风的缔造者和若干组织的管理者,更是因为这些人身上的那种笃定,不服输和不怕苦的精神深深的感染者我。提到创办华风的初衷,杜方甸用了这样一个词:Bridge,a bridge between Chinese and non-Chinese students. 直到现在,华风一直在 UO扮演着这个 bridge 的角色,而且华风正在把这个角色扮演的越来越好

从确定华风的理念,制定华风的路线开始,这个不到十个人的队伍出版了他们的第一本杂志。简单的外观,黑白的内容。华风悄悄的开始给这个中国人并不太多的学校传播着华夏文化。开始时的黑白版面还有以出售为主的发行方式导致杂志运营的许多困难,主要是因为当时的杂志在外观上略显粗糙,杂志卖不出去, 这些困难给当时满怀热情的同学们一个狠狠的打击。然而,在困难面前,华风人那种不服输的精神体现的淋漓尽致。张晓鸥重新操刀改版杂志,让《华风》杂志以全新的板块和彩色的内容面世。这种新的尝试让华风杂志开始以全新的面貌准备进入 2010 年。

2010年的华风似乎有了一些变化,至少在人数上有所增加。规模不算很大,但工作却是异常的繁重。华风的成员经常熬夜对文章,做设计。而且在招收和培养新人上面也存在很

多问题。当初的华风就像是中国学生里面的一个小圈子一样,招收的都是熟人,培养的也都有能力有热情的是熟人。因为缺少资金和经验,华风的的宣传始终是一个难点。和大多数的组织一样,最初的时候总会遇到这样或那样的问题,但好在大家都有一个共同的信念,就是一定要把杂志社办好。

我曾经这样问过当时主编夏熙格: “你加入华风的初衷是想像大多数人一样想找些事情做,还是志在传播和发扬中国的文化”?她的回答是: “如果只是想找点事情做的话,那么有太多的选择了,我大可以找一个轻松简单的来做。但当初即使我的工作量大于等于一门课的内容,我还是在坚持。因为我相信这做件事的价值,相信《华风》杂志的价值。我觉得作为生在平安盛世的一代中国青年,我们中已很少有人在意对社会和文化的思考,因为没有类似外敌入侵等不利条件,忧国忧民显得有些无谓。泛娱乐和物质时代慢慢将我们催眠,使我们安于吃喝不愁、工作无忧的状态而无暇思考个体之于社会的关系。作为留学生,我们也不常思量受到西方教育的自己之于中国文化的关系以及我们的文化身份和使命。如果没有新一代人愿意思索这些所谓‘大问题’,那么中国文化的载体何在?我觉在这样一个空间和时间条件下,是时候思考这些问题并清楚自己能做什么。华风对我来说是一个很好的平台:通过她我们讲述儿时的记忆,重读经典,展示和学习传统与现代的中国文化和艺术,一点点把中国的气质和味道呈现出来——这就是我想做的。对任何有志向的同学也一样,大家都可以通过《华风》表达自己对于中西方文化的思考。好在我任职期间有好多不论中国还是美国的同学,都很有抱负,为了《华风》也都很用心,我的工作还算是顺利。” 她的话让我不禁想起了鲁迅和胡适。同样的华夏儿女,同样是为了传播中国文化。只不过我们在不同的年代,不同的地域罢了。或许我们的成就不会想他们那般伟大,但是我们相信,为来年的几年或者几十年里面,华风会影响 Oregon 甚至是美国西海岸对中国文化的认识。

在华风那段艰苦的岁月里面,中国人之间相互帮助的温暖体现的淋漓尽致。 作为一个新组织,一个月 300 美元真的让华风的财政捉襟见肘,好在有中国学会的帮助,才让举步为艰的华风有了一点点喘息机会。这也是我一开始提到需要感谢的组织 -----CSSA。其实每个留学生都知道,国外的生活本来就不容易,互相帮助是必须的。在夏熙格的聊天中,我不难感觉到她对 CSSA在华风创立之初给予支持的感念之情。我想这种温暖应该在留学生的圈子里面延续下去。

前言今年是《华风》杂志的第四周年,我们即将以 UO 独立杂志社的身份出版发行。四年,华风走过了多少风风雨雨,又经历过多少困难挫折。我们有太多需要感谢的人和组织。因为是在华风最艰难的时候,他们给予了我们帮助。我们有太多需要铭记的教训和经验,因为是它们推动了华风在不断前进。 这段历史虽不算厚重,却也凝聚了所有华风人的心血。她一直在提醒他乡学子勿忘中国文化,又时刻在传播博大精深的华夏文明。写这篇文章之前,我特地从一些华风的老成员那里了解过华风的历史。起初我觉得这只不过就是有历史而已,而当我真正了解和感悟到这段历史的时候,我深深地被触动了。我想这段努力耕耘,不断进取的精神已经成为了我生命中的正能量! 我也即将毕业,但是我真心希望能与您一起见证这段简短却非凡的历史。

2011随着华风的不断发展,管理方面的问题日益体现。十多个人的精力要支撑华风真的很艰苦。那年的华风虽然还是分出了几个部门,但是每一个人都没明确的部门 。曾经的经理李泽岩这样告诉我:“当时的杂志

社十人左右,不过尽管人手不多大家依然干劲十足”。这样一个仅仅十个人的杂志社每周都会在 Friendly Hall 的二楼举行例会。好在有越来越多的人知道了华风杂志,也有陆陆续续的成员加入进来,刚刚提过的经理泽岩就是其中之一。

当然,这时小有规模的华风 leader 们也是求贤若渴,当我问起现在的设计组长闫启锋当初他是怎么进华风的,他告诉我说:“一个偶然的机会,我在公交车上碰到了 Summer,她问我有没有兴趣来华风,然后我了解了一些情况就加入了”。他口中的Summer 就是我之前提过的夏熙格,写到这里,我不得不赞叹一下主编熙格和经理曹晗当年用人的智慧和大胆。因为就只这无意间的一个非正式的面试,让闫启锋有机会来到华风,而如今作为设计组长的他也是华风的顶梁柱之一。各位新成员的加入也让人事上有些紧张的华风略松了一口气。

在 2011 年里,华风的 leader 们依然摸索前行着。提高的杂志的质量成为了当时的重要任务。错别字是当时华风的首要“敌人”。很多读者会想,错别字嘛,找出来,改了就行,可能会麻烦点但也花不了多长时间。我以前也是这样想的,但是当我进入华风的编辑部之后,这种观念彻底别改变了。保守估计,一本华风至少有十五篇文章。平均一篇文章两千字。十五篇就是三万字。要从三万字里面找出那不到一百个的错别字,谈何容易。这让本来就人手不足的华风有些忙碌了。经常出现主编,经理,编辑组长一起对文章到深夜情况。在这里,我好想对那些在为华风呕心沥血的同学和学长说一声,你们辛苦了。

寄语 :四周年

2012年 Winter,我有幸加入了华风杂志,这也让我真正认识了华风这个大家庭里面的成员们。我不得不感叹,

当时里面的每一个人都有相当强的管理能力和专业知识。就拿熙格来说吧,把半年的的工作时间安排的井井有条,把不太宽裕的财务算的仔仔细细。在一年半的时间里,她不仅完善了杂志板块内容和外观设计,提升了发行量,还提出并策划杂志社的独立方案。经理曹晗协助着两任主编张晓鸥和夏熙格做了很多组织管理工作,她是目前华风做的最长时间的经理。我想这种管理能力应该是日积月累慢慢来的吧。当然,这里面也有一些菜鸟,比如刚进华风的我,曹茹君和思阳,当初我进入的时候,有一些成员快毕业就要离开了,每一个人都想把华风很好延续下去。所以每次的会议,基本上都是新的 leader 主持,上一届的 leader 旁听的他们把工作交代的很细很细。是啊,大家辛辛苦苦努力这么多年,可不想在交接的时候出了什么叉子。也正是在这一年,华风独立的计划初见端倪。这个计划是所有华风人的梦想,而大家都看到希望的曙光。我依然记得那次会议,熙格和曹晗告诉我们这个消息的时候,大家都激动坏了。

2012 年的华风是在不创新和进步的,我曾经问过闫启锋,在设计方面,现在的华风和以前的相比,你觉得差别在什么地方?他告诉我说,设计上的创新和改变应是最直观的了。他是因为对设计有爱好才进了设计组,然后发现自己的那点设计知识在这里完全不够用,然后在当设计的一年里面,他不断学习,不管完善自己的作品。曾经有一次,他们设计的文章用了红字黑底,在电脑上的看不出有什么问题,结果杂志一出来发现完全看不去清楚,然后他们找出问题所在,就再也没有发生过类似的事情。现在作为设计组长的他正在努力培养新人,让这种进步和创新的精神一直延续下去。

2012 年的主编陆昊一是把华风这种不断创新的发展精神体现出来了的。她为华风写过很多质量很好的文章。虽然当时身体欠佳,却也顶起了华风的重任。同时,她也为不断的为华风培养新人,不但提高华风的质量,还让更多的同学了解并感受到了中国文化。

小编我我感受到的华风的 2012 是其乐融融的。写到这里,我不得不说一下 2012 年的那次 BBQ 活动,用泽岩的话说就是:“湖面上吹过的微风依然小冷,空气中弥漫着烧烤的香气,大家齐齐动手,制作各种美味烤串”。其实那个时候我才刚加入华风不久。但是每个人都很热情,每个人都急别人之所急。那时候,站在河边,和大家一起吹着风,聊着天,这种感觉那么温馨,那么快乐 。我觉得,华风就是一个家。

2013今年,华风步入了成立之后的第四个年头,7 月也将正式成为 UO 的一个独立社团。现在的华风和最初的

时候真的有了翻天覆地的变化,经历过这几年的发展,华风已经有了很明确的分工。“现在的三个部门分工明确,编辑组是由对文字具有一定敏感度,而且有一定的文学素养的同学组成;设计组的很多成员来自 Digital Art 这个专业,或是对摄影和美术非常有兴趣的同学;PR 组基本上都是商学院 , 交流能力和组织能力都很强的同学。所以现在的华风比以前更具有专业水准。人员构成也比以前多元化,因为我们是以弘扬中国文化为主,理想目标是打造成 UO 的双语杂志,所以为了扩大我们的读者群,已经有两位热爱中文的美国同学加入华风,为我们带来了不同的视角。” 这是现在的主编思阳告诉我的。当初进入华风的菜鸟们了渐渐的支撑起了华风。每一位成员都努力把一开始自己不擅长的部分发展成现在的长项。除了刚刚提到的主编思阳外,还有 Manager Jason 和 Manager Assistant 曹茹君。写到这里,我不禁想起了刚刚提过的华风精神,每一届的领导都积极的把他们所有经验和想法传输给刚刚进去的同学。让这种华风的理念得到延续,创新并且发扬光大。和以前相比,我们的读者群也扩大了很多。每一期的华风都是供不应求,曾经有一位 Journalism 专业的美国男生给华风写过一篇简介 , 题目是“The Chinese voice at The University of Oregon,”我想在 UO,华风杂志已经成为了最有力的中国声音。每当我看到有中国人和美国人在看华风杂志的时候,我都不禁想起建立华风的最初目的,弘扬和传播的中华文化。我想会有那么一天,华风的读者群不仅仅局限 UO, 我们的杂志会被推广到 Eugene,Oregon 甚至是全美国,我想会有那么一天,我们会代表,The Chinese voice in The United States!

I met Erik in the beginning of 2013, we work together in the student recreation center at school. Erik is a third year student in University of Oregon, last fall

term, he wants to experience a different college life so he transferred to University of Los Angeles, but the tuition is too expensive for him so he transferred back to University of Oregon this past winter term. When I first met him at work, I think he is a really outgoing, friendly and nice guy, always has smile on him. He is also a really talkative person, likes to chat with people all the time, I can always feel his passion and energy when I am talking with him. We only work together two hours every week, but we always get along really well. He always has a small Fuji digital camera with him, he said because he likes to capture every single beautiful detail in his life. Lately I heard that he is planning on a program called “Motivational Monday”, every Monday he will shoot a video and post it online. In the video, her will talk about his own story and experience, and also his passion and thoughts about life. In one of his videos, he mentioned that a lot of people asked him that why he is doing this, he said:” This world has too many negative effects that bothering people’s life, people always been busy with their living but hardly stop their step and look around the beautiful things around them. At the beginning, he just post some motivation quotes on his Facebook, sometime come with a picture that he took. After a while, some of his friends suggested him:” Why don’t you just put all your thoughts, passion, and positive energy all together into video and post them online, so that way, more people will see it and more people will get your energy.” Friends’ idea remind Erik’s though, “Yes, this is exactly what I want to do, I have too many thoughts and ideas in my mind, I need to put it out there and share with more people!” One day at work, Erik asks me:” Iris! What is your happy level now? From scale one to ten.” I was pretty depressed at that time, because there are so many things need to done, and the school class also had some trouble with it, so I answered right away with a negative five. He heard my answer, instead of asking me why, he said to me, “It’s ok, in the next couple hours, I will raise your happy level to positive five!” His words and facial expression made me laugh. In the next couple hours, he keeps finding all kinds of topics to talk to me, on and on. We talked about each other’s family, what we want to do after graduate; he also told me all kinds of stories that he has been through. Before he clock out for work, Erik asked me again: “What is your happy level now, Iris?” I thought for a minute, and smile at him, “Thanks, Erik, my happy level is positive 7!”

You see, in less than two hours, only two hours, my happy level raised up by 12 point.The society we are living in right now has too many unhappy elements around us. People always complain about the life that they are living right now. We complain that 24 hours a day is just not enough; students complain that professor give us way to many homework, and way less points on our grade; people complain that why the sky has to rain and why the bus is running late; worker complain that why the money balance on their bank account is so low, why the company hasn’t give them a raise, and why the clients have so many requirements, bad attitude, and worse temper… etc. Since when in our lives we have these much complains and unhappiness? Think hard, when is the last time you laugh that its actually came from deeply your heart? When is the last time you have nothing in your head that you have to worry about? Is it true that it has been a long time so you can’t even remember at all? We are not the kind of species that can live for centuries or even forever, so why we are spending half of the time everyday that we have to complain something? When you are at the bus station waiting for the bus, when you are on the way to school or back to home, stop for a minute, take a break, catch a breath, look farther, you will find the things that you always concern and worry about are too little, too small to block the sun, the world is just as beautiful as it always has been. I am an early morning person; I usually wake up really early in the morning and bike to school. I have those times that I feel too lazy to get up from bed, keep thinking if I should open my eyes or just keep them close a little bit longer. But after I step out of the house, the fresh air at 6am in the morning will make myself in a super good mood, because I feel like it’s a new day with many hope in it. There has a guy from work asked me couple weeks ago, “Iris, why every time I see you, you always look so happy and smile all the time?” “Is it a bad thing?” I asked back, “I want myself to be happy everyday, and also hope I can bring others the happiness that I have.” People need to smile often in order to make the inside of us become active, since a tiny little bad thing happens can make us worry, then we also can be happy for those small things. Each of us is like a magnet; we have the ability to intake the positive and negative energy, but we need to absorb more positive energy than the negative ones. Just like in our lives, we need to clean up the negative energy like we clean our house; open the window, can welcome the positive energy.

我是2013年年初,在学校体育馆工作时认识Erik的。他是俄勒冈大学三年级的学生。在大三的秋季,他因为想要尝试不同大学的生活转学去了洛杉矶。但是经受不住加州昂贵的学费,他在一个学期后的冬季又回到了俄勒冈。

第一次和他见面是一起工作的时候。那时候他给我的印象是一个很开朗,总是面带笑容的开心大男生。喜欢和所有人聊天,话语中总是带着永远都用不完的热情和力量。我们每周在一起工作只有一个半小时,可我们却总是聊得很投机。他总是随身背着一台小型的Fuji数码相机,因为他说他喜欢随时随地的捕捉生活中的美好。前不久我得知,他在筹划着一个“Motivational Monday” (动力星期一)的项目,内容大概是这样的:在每个星期一,他都会拍摄一段视频短片发到网络上。视频的内容大多是对别人的采访,或是关于他自己的故事,关于他对生活的热爱和感想。在他的一部视频中,有很多人问他这样一个问题,“为什么要做这样件事?”他回答道:“这个世界充满了太多的负面影响,人们每天都在不停地为他们自己的生活奔波忙碌,却很少真正的停下脚步去看看这个世界美好的一面。”一开始,他只是每天在Facebook上写一些鼓舞人心的文字,有时会附带上一张他拍的照片。久而久之,就有朋友建议他说,“为什么不把他自己所有正面的力量和那些想要鼓舞人心的想法拍摄成影片传送到网上呢?这样的话就会有更多的人会感受到你的力量。”朋友这个不经意的提醒唤醒了Erik内心的想法:“是的!这是我正想要做的!我有太多的想法和点子在我脑子里了,我想要把这些想法分享给越来越多的人!”有一天工作时,Erik突然问我,“Iris, 如果按照一到十来评分的话,你现在的快乐指数是多少?”当时的我,心情郁闷,因为有太多事情需要打理,而学校课又遇到了棘手的问题,所以我脱口而出的回答他:“我的快乐指数是负五。”他听到我的回答后,并没有问我为什么,而是很大声很兴奋的对我说:“没关系,在接下来的一个半小时内,我会让你的快乐指数起码上升到正五!”他那认真激动的语气和表情让我情不自禁的笑了。于是在接下来的一个半小时里,他不停的找各种话题来和我聊天。我们聊到了各自的家庭,对毕业后的憧憬;他还给我讲述了他经历过的各种故事。在Erik下班要离开的时候,他又

问我:“你现在的快乐指数是多少?”我想了想,笑着对他说:“谢谢,Erik,我现在的快乐指数是正七!” 你看,在短短的一个半小时的时间,我的快乐指数竟然上升了十二点。我们现在所处的社会,每天充斥着太多的不愉快,人们常常抱怨自己现有的生活。我们埋怨一天24小时的时间太少;同学们埋怨教授布置的作业太多,给分太低;人们埋怨为什么天要下雨,公车要晚点;工人们埋怨自己银行账户的可怜的余额,埋怨上司为什么不给我们加薪,埋怨客户的要求太多,脸色太臭,脾气太差···从何时起,我们的生活中什么时候有了这么多的抱怨和叹息声?仔细想一想,你上一次发自肺腑的开怀大笑是什么时候?你上一次脑海里什么烦心事都没有又是什么时候?是不是已经过去太久以至于你都已经想不起来了?人类的寿命并不算长久,我们又为什么要用掉一大半的时间来抱怨呢?当你在车站等公车的时候,当你在上下学的路上奔波的时候,停下来,歇一歇,向远处看一看,你会发现那些日常的烦恼都只是小事,世界依旧十分美好。我的工作因为要训练,所以每天都要早起,然后骑车去学校。每天清晨,我都会在床上纠结着,眼睛闭上又睁开。可是在收拾好走出家门的时候,六点多的微凉的空气会让我的心情都一下子的好起来,因为我觉得这新的一天充满了希望。前两周和我一起工作的一个男生问我:“Iris, 为什么我每次看到你总是笑嘻嘻的,从来没有见过你苦着脸?”“这样难道不好么?”我回答:“我希望自己每天都快乐,也希望给别人带来欢乐。”人要经常微笑才会让自己的内心活跃起来,既然一点点的小事情都能让我们苦恼,那我们也可以为一点点小事情而感到开心快乐。我们每个人就像是一个磁铁,拥有吸收正面和负面能量的能力,而我们要选择去吸收更多正面的东西。在生活里,也要像打扫卫生一样,扫去我们的负面;打开窗,迎接正面的力量。

偶尔看到一则故事,是关于心理学家曾做过的一个实验。 他们举行了一场特殊的赛跑。在本来

很平坦的赛场上,每隔几米拉上一根长长的绳索作为障碍。在正式比赛之前,所有的参赛者被召集到赛场上,让他们观察并熟悉一下场地,也可以在上面预先跑一跑,找到感觉,以便找到绳索的位置,做到心里有数。 然后,所有的参赛者被领进一间屋里,全部蒙上双眼。等正式比赛开始前,心理学家突然告诉参赛者,地上的障碍物已经被撤除了,即使蒙上眼睛,他们也可以放心地去跑。可等发令枪一响,参赛者们并没有发足狂奔,虽然心理学家提供给了他们障碍物已经清除的信息,参赛者依旧小心翼翼地跑着,生怕被他们想象中的绳索摔倒。 看完这则故事,不禁产生了一种紧张感,不禁自问:要是换作是我,又是否能够勇敢放心地去跑呢?所谓当局者迷,旁观者清。或许真的轮到自己的时候,也同样会退缩。闭起眼睛,就什么都看不见了,仅靠陌生人提供的信息前进,谁不会感到害怕呢?面对黑暗,面对未知,又有多少人能够保证自己不畏惧退缩呢? 选手们的担忧来自于那些绳索,害怕摔倒,害怕疼痛。赛场上的绳索已经被撤走,他们却依然提心吊胆,因为看见了的障碍,就很难再被放下。绳索曾经被放置在赛场上,此刻却是被系在了他们的心上。布条蒙住的不仅仅是他们的眼睛,更是他们的心。前方的道路上空空无一物,心中的疑惧却产生了巨大的阻力。面对没有障碍的路途,却那么小心翼翼——人们始终剪不断心中的那条线。世上本没有路,走的人多了,也就成了路。那么,是不是路上本没有陷阱,想得太多了,也就成了阻碍呢?这是一件多么可怕的事情,而我们却不可避免地总是会遇到这样的情况。这或许是因为我们只是普普通通的人吧,没有大智慧,谈不上大境界。执着是个美丽

的词语,但固执就变成了偏激。太多人因为固执,不肯放下那些毫无助益的念头,导致了接二连三的头破血流。曾经见过同学因为念念不忘很久以前一场考试中的一个小错误,而对以后每一场考试都心生畏惧。曾经见过有白领因为一次开会时他人无恶意的一句指正,而对工作产生了厌恶。也曾经听到过许多其他因为太过牵挂某事而导致生活变得混乱的例子。所有的这些,大大小小琐琐碎碎,说到底,不过是因为简简单单一句放不下罢了。 放不下,是一条绳索,更是人们自己在心里默默打上的一个结。任凭旁人如何苦口婆心的劝慰都无济于事。和所有放慢了脚步的选手们一样,如果在心里拉上了绳索创造了障碍,那么我们的行程也将变得危险而缓慢。 解铃还须系铃人。我们常常说,眼不见为净。可惜说来容易做来难,多少人越是看不见了越是想,并且是胡思乱想。蒙了眼也蒙了心,原本笔直的大道

忽然变成了细细的独木桥。佛家有云:“菩提本无树,明镜亦非台,本来无一物,何处惹尘埃”。一切都是虚无,所有困难都是纸老

虎。一句话蓦然间就通透了所有。即使是走着独木桥,也要有那种“你走你的阳关道,我走我的独木桥”一般的气魄。何必被自己的执念打倒,何必自己忧虑了自己。有的时候即使是害怕,也要勇敢向前。一片黑暗中,才会有光明的迹象。 不要给自己施加压力,不要为心灵系上绳索,不要让不存在的东西成为我们前进的阻碍。学会拿得起放的下,学会轻轻松松地过每一个阳光灿烂的日子。话是这么说的。但要是哪天,有谁,在这样的比赛境况下能全力的冲刺,大家反倒是会惊讶了吧?我们所能做到的,到底又有哪些呢? 若是有一天谁这如此之释然,那便是大智慧禅的境界了。

  我从来没有想过以后还能有多少在乎的人陪伴在我身边,也没有想过我到底能够活多久。

  小时候的我,想当一名翻译家,每天坐着飞机穿越在各个国家,娴熟地说着自己喜爱的语言。    

  出国前的我,毛糙,冲动,没有耐心,每天在教室里用笔写下无数的功课,放假躲在家里上网不出门。

  出国后的我,受尽委屈,背过冤枉,吃过苦,丢过人,被人骂过,也曾被人瞧不起。那样环境下的我,被磨砺的愈来愈锋利,愈来愈坚韧,也愈来愈成熟。

  现在的我,学着自己喜欢的专业,写着自己满意的文字,交着自己喜欢的朋友,过着安静,一日复一日的生活,活得也更加自我。

  出国留学后悔,也没有觉得在另一个国家用另一种语言学习

是件多么了不起的事情。我从来没有鄙视过那些在国内上学的孩子,也没有觉得待在国内学习生活有多么多么的差劲。我家里没有什么势力,爸妈也都只是公司职员,为国家工作,拿政府发的工资。我不是什么富二代,家里的情况和爸妈的省吃俭用,这些我都很清楚。我选择出国,是因为我喜欢国外的生活,我喜欢他们对待人的热情,喜欢他们不做作的拥抱,跟他们在一起的我,不需要耍心思,用心眼儿,而是能够真正放开来,做最真实的自己。我喜欢这里的环境,这里的习俗,这里的生活方式。我的梦想在这里,而且我知道现在的我能够也敢于把我的梦想实现。      我可以抱怨老师教课的态度完全不照逻辑,我可以抱怨教授布置的论文是多么的麻烦琐碎,我可以抱怨为什么要下雨自己为什么要感冒,也可以抱怨睡眠不足而引起我头疼剧烈,我可以抱怨超市里的物价有多么多么昂贵,也可以抱怨等公车多么多么

耗时和麻烦。所以你看,即使自己过着安安心心的生活,可还是避免不了细小的琐碎,这就是我们现在所拥有的青春,所以我知足现有的生活。    我们年轻,我们敢爱敢恨,我们有足够的青春去挥霍,我们可以大肆言辞的说出心中的不满,即使结果还是认命的在图书馆里熬夜学习,也可以不管不顾那网页上几点零后面的投入的金钱和劳力。我们可以成群结队去逛街看电影,也可以一个人坐在家里的电脑屏幕前一动不动整整一天, 我们可以执着地在网上一家一家不停的投简历,也可以在各种奢侈品店里奔走光顾一张金卡随便刷,我们可以辛苦辛苦满头大汗下厨做饭,也可以天天出门下馆子。

  我们想要过什么样子的生活,决定权在我们自己手里。

How Do You Want To Spend Your Youth

We are young; we dare to take the challenge. I have dreams, I dare to step towards and reach it. Now I will tell my story.I never thought about how many people I would have around me in the future. I never thought about how long could I live.As a child, I wanted to be a translator when I grew up so I can travel around the world and speak my favorite language.Before I came to the States, I was a careless, impulsive, and impatient kid. I would write endless homework in school and would just stay in at home and surf the Internet during the break.When I came to the States, I was being treated unjustly. I got humiliated and people often looked down on me. Consequently, I have become stronger, more protective, and more mature under that environment.Nowadays, I am studying the major I enjoy to study; I am writing the stuff that I want to write; I am making friends with those who I really like to spend time with. I’ve never been this happy and satisfied before.I’ve never regretted the decision I made to come to this amazing country,

nor have I had any special feelings in studying college in a foreign language. I never disdained those kids who go to college back home in China. I have also never thought that living and studying back home in China had anything wrong. I wasn’t born in a rich and powerful family, both of my parents are employees working for the country. I am not a rich kid who has a super wealthy family, I am aware of the financial situation in my family and I also know that my parents have given up so much and have saved every penny for me to come to the States. I chose to study here because I like the lifestyle and the enthusiasm of the people here. I like their genuine hugs. While spending time with them, I don’t have to think that much, I am not tried, on the contrary, I let go of myself and be the real me. I like the social environment, the custom, and the lifestyle. My dream is here, and I know that I dare to accomplish my dream.I can complain how ridiculous and not logical the way my professor teach class; I can also complain how detailed and complicated my papers are; I can complain why the sky has to rain today and why do I have to catch a cold; I can also complain the lack of time for

sleeping and how bad my headache is; I can complain how expensive the food in the supermarket is; and I can also complain what a long time I have to wait at the bus station for the bus. But this is our life, our youth, so I am cherishing what I have now. We are young, we dare to love, we dare to hate. We have enough time to spend and waste when we are still in our youth. We can speak up for our generation, the goods and the bads, no matter if we have to spend most our days studying in the library; or just ignoring the money and the time we have spent for the most important number we care in college (GPA). We can gather together and go shopping and watch movies; or we can just stay at home and stare at our laptopscreen for the entire day. We can be so stubborn an keep searching all the open job opportunities and send out our resume one by one; or we can always hang out in those fancy luxury galleries and swipe those golden VIP card endlessly. Chinese is one of the most widely-spoken languages in the world. It is constantly expanding spatially and temporally and is getting more popular and marketable. Globally, over a billion people speak the Chinese language. As China has been growing in the global economy, many people want to learn Mandarin as a foreign language. But before we start learning Chinese, let’s have a better understanding of the language. In this article, we will look at its history and various elements.

The Chinese language belongs to the Sino-Tibetan language family. There are fourteen main dialect groups in the Chinese language: Gan, Hakka, Huizhou, Jinyu, Mandarin, Min Bei, Min Dong, Min Nan, Min Zhong, Pu-Xian, Wu, Xiang, and Yue. This may be confusing, but essentially the diversity of the dialect groups can be explained by the large population and variations between regions and provinces. The majority of Chinese in northern, northwestern, western, southwestern, and central China speak the Mandarin dialects, while a majority in eastern China speaks the Wu dialect. Therefore, the Mandarin and Wu dialects are considered the prime dialects in the Chinese language, while others are considered minority dialects. These minorities are linguistically speaking also the most varied, with contrasting phonology compared with Mandarin and Wu. As many dialectic groups are distributed based on geographical points, their respective regional standards and their accents can be very distinctive. Despite the large diversity of these linguistic groups, the written Chinese language is unified.

Of the numerous Chinese dialect groups, Mandarin, also known as Putonghua in Mainland China, is spoken across North and Southwest China. Currently, Mandarin Chinese is the most-spoken native language, with 845 million speaker. Among 5 million reside in other parts of Asia, such as Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan. Of over a billion people in China, more than 70% speak Mandarin as their mother-tongue according to Paul Lewis in Ethnologue: Languages of the World

(2009). The rapid expansion of Mandarin at present can be contributed mainly to the Chinese government's promotion of Mandarin as the official and the “standard” national language in the 80s.

Chinese characters are often linked with the semantics and pragmatic content of the words. They are also presented with dots, dashes, hooks and strokes. Unlike English words, Chinese words are ideograms. The writing is not associated with pronunciation nor phonology systems. Of particular note is that all Chinese dialects are monosyllabic in most of its morphemes. Chinese also has expressive intonation, which is why Mandarin is often described as refined and elegant. Each Chinese character has its own individuality. Each character has the uniform square shape which results in the compactness of` Chinese words. Phonetically, Mandarin Chinese can be pronounced using pinyin, which helps to express Chinese characters with the use of the Roman alphabet. There are different Chinese characters that have similarity in phonetics, but they might be pronounced with four different intonations -- the high tone, rising tone, low tone with a dipping-pitch contour and falling tone. For example, the pinyin of “ma”, with the first tone, “mā.” means “mother” (媽) or “grandma” (嬤), the second tone, “má,” means “numb” (麻), third tone, “mǎ,” means “horse” (馬), and the fourth tone, “mà,” means “to scold” (罵). With this observation of its syntax and morphemes, the linguistic productivity of Chinese is indeed impressive. A Chinese word may carry many meanings, to say nothing of its possible combinations with other Chinese words to create further lexical variety. The phonological system thus allows a broader range of word choice in the Chinese language.

Language changes over time. In China’s long lasting culture and history over the past 3,000 years, linguistic affiliation can be explicitly traced. The Chinese language illustrates a variety of changes in the form of written script, morphology, and syntax, as well as oral communication. Thousand of years ago, the Chinese written language consisted merely of inscriptions on the shells of tortoises and other animals. It

developed from a symbolic system that resembled the appearance of objects. The structures and forms of the Chinese characters then evolved from dynasty to dynasty. There are nine phases of scripts throughout Chinese history, from the Oracle bone script in the Shang Dynasty, the Bronze and Large Seal scripts of Zhou Dynasty, the Qin dynasty's Small Seal script, the Clerical, Standard, cursive, and the semi-cursive scripts used in the Han Dynasty, to the Simplified script introduced in the 1950s in mainland China. Today, people generally use the Standard or the Simplified scripts. They also use the Large Seal or the Small Seal scripts for traditional seals to serve as personal signatures, and the Draft script is often used in Chinese calligraphy. According to Hsu in Analysis of the Chinese Language (1976), one of the formations of Chinese characters is pictographs, and is constructed “by drawing the object, and curved lines are made according to the thing itself.” For example, the character character “月” (moon) is formed by the hieroglyph form of that resembles a crescent moon . The earliest form of the character “日” (sun) had a pictograph of that symbolizes the sun, and the antique form of “人” (person) is , imitating the features of a human being with

head, hands, fingers, and legs. Although there are different dialects in the Chinese language, the majority of them share the common written characters. These writing systems have also had great influence on the Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese languages through historical and cultural exchange with the Chinese. Another kind of Chinese character are the Harmonic words, which Hsu explains as “words formed with the fact taken as an appellation, and the sound harmonized in a similitude.” They are formed through the combination of phonetics and semantics. For example, “打”(to hit), “扔”(to throw), “推”(to push), and “拉” (to pull)all have the Chinese radicals of “手” (hand), and are verbs that can be performed by hand. Generally, over 90% of the Chinese characters are composed in this type of formation.

In 1955, the Chinese government introduced a large-scale language reform. The reform movement simplified the Chinese characters by reducing their strokes, and promoted Mandarin as the common and national spoken language. The simplification of the Chinese script was carried out with the intent of making the language easier to acquire, thus resulting in a higher literacy rate. Nowadays, most people in mainland China have adopted

this simplified writing, while those in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan preserve the use of traditional Chinese script.

Along with the evolution of the Chinese scripts and characters, the morphology and syntax were have transformed and developed from Classical Chinese (also known as Literary Chinese) to the vernacular. The Classical Chinese language contrasts with the spoken dialects with its concise and short syntax. It is sophisticated and is widely found in Chinese fables, poems and proverbs. Since the vocabulary of Literary Chinese is highly homophonous, the language's arcane nature makes it comparatively ambiguous and impractical for modern use. Subsequently, with the language reform and adoption of Mandarin Chinese, the use of the Classical Chinese had been gradually superseded by today’s vernacular language.

人物简介:仓央嘉措(1683 ~ 1706),意为“梵音海”,曾被尊为藏传佛教的最高领袖——第六世达赖喇嘛,同时是西藏历史上最著名的诗人。生于 1683 年(清康熙二十二年),原名洛桑仁钦·仓央嘉措,原籍西藏南部门隅地区。父名扎西丹增,出身于宁玛派咒师世家;其母为赞普后裔,名次旺拉姆。他 14 岁时被选剃度,入布达拉宫尊为黄教领袖,10 年后为西藏政教斗争殃及,被清廷废黜,解送北上,道经青海今纳木措湖时中夜循去,不知所终,至今是个千古之谜。

“住进布达拉宫,我是雪域最大的王。流浪在拉萨街头,我是世间最美的情郎。”短短的一句话,将西藏的历史,以及仓央嘉措的前生今世用着平缓的语句娓娓道来。

仓央嘉措,历史上颇具争议的一位达赖。他是活佛,亦是情圣,他孑立于晴天,惊才艳艳,他短暂的一生注定化为传奇被众生膜拜。作为六世达赖,在西藏的地位崇高,一身兼政教之首,他拥有最至高无上的权力,世人顶礼膜拜的对象。但是对于他来说,就像是黄金囚笼里最高贵的犯人,虽有芸芸众生的顶礼膜拜,却没有一个人怜悯的给他囚笼的钥匙。他无法做到像凡夫俗子一样去爱,去被爱,他就是一个披着袈裟的荡子,一个不休佛法的活佛。

公元1683年,清康熙年三十六年,仓央嘉措出生在西藏南部门隅地区。他很小的时候就被藏王第巴桑结嘉措选中成为五世达赖的转世灵童。但由于政治因素的考虑,桑结嘉措一直对五世达赖的圆寂秘而不宣。直到 1696 年,康熙帝御驾亲征平定准葛尔丹的叛乱时才知道五世达赖早已涅槃,此时距离五世达赖圆寂已有 14 年之久。次年九月,仓央嘉措出家。次年十月,在布达拉宫坐床,成为了藏传佛教最大教派格鲁派的教主和名义上的的政治领袖。

从此,世间千万人的命运和生死荣辱都与他息息相关。自然,他是高高在上的领袖,没有人能撼动他的地位,他的命运,关乎藏民的福祉,关乎着蒙古贵族的势力消长,关乎着清政府西部边陲的安危存亡,却唯独不关乎他自己的幸福。

当他还没有成为六世达赖之前,他有了自己的初恋,深深的体会到了爱情的芬芳,所以住进布达拉宫时,他无法忍受每日枯燥无味的诵经生活,飘渺的未来,单调的生活,以及没有任何实权

的虚位,这一切的一切怎么能束缚一个少年的心?自此,他开始寻找属于自己的一条路,试图在自己的生活中找到宗教与爱情的平衡,他选择了做一个宗教的叛逆者,做一个浪子,一个爱情的歌颂者,对于自己的信仰,他一点也不隐瞒。刚开始时,他还是很小心翼翼的:看门的胡子老狗,心不人还聪明,你不要告诉别人呀,我天黑出去,归来已黎明。

白天,在昏暗的经殿中,他坦然的端坐于莲花台上的佛主,但却心不在此,俨然是一具空壳“你是金铜佛身,我是塑泥神像,虽是一个佛堂吗,我俩却不一样。”

傍晚,仓央嘉措化作宕桑旺波,就像一匹脱缰的野马,潇洒的游荡在拉萨的街头,呼吸着高原上最清新的空气,且歌且舞,且吟且醉,他用豪迈的声音,吟颂世间最美丽的情歌。

这就是真实的仓央嘉措,他的内心经历了蚀骨般的挣扎,凄凉而迷茫,他曾经悲情的吟诵:“自恐多情损梵行,入山又怕误倾城,世间安得双法全,不负如来不负卿”只可惜,大慈大悲的佛主,可以普渡众生的凄苦,却无法怜悯的给予他平凡的生活。

就在他过着放浪形骸的日子之时,他身边的权力之争愈演愈烈,一直护着他的第巴桑结嘉措,在一次纷争中被杀。1706 年,在权力之争中获胜的拉藏汗,把仓央嘉措从无畏狮子大法宝座上拉下来。康熙帝一纸诏书:执献京师。于是,他踏上了被押解去北京的路。

1707 年的冬天,仓央嘉措在青海湖畔神秘失踪。一说是被杀。一说是病死。这一年,他年仅 25 岁。

作为西藏历史上最有争议的达赖喇叭,仓央嘉措无疑是不称职的,但是作为一个诗人,仓央嘉措却是极其优秀的,他的诗是发自自己内心的最朴实的想法,

他的诗是人性的自然流露,他的情歌是对人性的呼唤和宣泄,几百年来一直存在于藏民的心中。

300 多年过去了,布达拉宫门前的转经筒,转过一世再一世。多少人事,都被历史的风尘,淹没得严严实实,再无痕迹可寻。然而,仓央嘉措和他的情歌,却如漫山遍野的格桑花,世世代代,盛开在青藏高原上,盛开在人们的心里面,永不消失。

   后记:最初认识仓央嘉措是在读者上看到《见与不见》和《我问佛》,后来查证资料才知道,原来这并不是他写的。但是却无法阻止我喜欢上这个披着活佛外表的浪子。在去年的夏天,我再一次去了西藏,在布达拉宫里,虽有他的位置,却没有他的灵魂,导游讲到他时,总是轻描淡写,没有过分的停留,我想可能是因为虽然他在西藏的历史上显得“独树一帜”,但却不应该大肆宣扬。后来我好奇的问了导游仓央嘉措在何处和情人相会?导游才告诉,在大昭寺旁的玛吉拉米咖啡厅,这座繁华闹市中唯一一座特别醒目的黄色房子,就是曾经仓央嘉措和情人相会的地方。于是我慕名前去,里面很是热闹。时光仿佛还停留在昨天,却真的很遥远。几百年的沧桑变化,岁月变迁,西藏这片人间净土上多少人事早已是面目全非,不曾改变的是这座小小咖啡馆所保留的旧日的情怀。我始终相信,在他身上,身体不过是装饰,他可以任意带走的是自己的灵魂,所以我们才看到他的那些惊世骇俗的做法,以六世达赖之尊跪求还俗,拿佛门的修辞写旖旎的情歌,以俗人的装束游荡在拉萨的大街小巷,与贵族小姐幽会,与酒家女子狂欢。他明明知道知道他的结局注定是一个悲剧,却依旧显示出叛逆的姿态,所以,我不相信他涅槃,但我相信他永生。

唐诗的色彩

王维的诗是水白色的琴谱

那样的诗不热烈,不深情,甚至不慷慨激昂。可是诗里满是水白色的恢宏,那是唐朝诗人掌有的天地,追问三界的开阔胸襟和超迈气度。无论是初唐的贞观之治,还是锦绣的开元盛世,即使到了寥落的安史之乱,唐人的诗总是会有一些掩饰不住的豪气。行到水穷处,坐看云起时,那是贯穿整个唐朝的气质。诗里满是水白色的怡然,再起诗人摈除时间和空间的神游。当王维如蓬草般飘于边塞,他却忘记了没落;当他置身荒凉的沙漠,他却只轻轻吟出“大漠孤烟直,长河落日圆”。在王维的诗里,没有失意,只有因失意反而现出的高贵。诗里满是水白色的厚重,让王维的诗浑然天成,步履轻盈的融入灵魂。他慢慢的酝酿出那句“江流天地外,山色有无中”。仿佛在听潮起潮落,看云卷云舒。

杜牧的诗是锻蓝色的雕饰

那样的诗,用华丽的饰品试图掩盖住所有的悲哀。华丽的锻蓝色,是唐诗最能让人记住的色彩。描绘尽唐朝的盛世繁华,如牡丹的绚丽绽放。唐代的诗人大多失意,却也大多失意的格外美丽。锻蓝色的诗是扬州的梦呓。让人看到那片千里莺啼,那片春风十里,那片如画江南。当我们轻问句玉人何处吹箫,便会见到二十四桥明月夜;当我们闭目思起竹西路,便会知歌吹是扬州。而当牧之用十年换得扬州一梦,当锻蓝色卷上秦淮河畔的珠帘,杜牧便用最轻最细的笔法,为唐诗添上它最多也最本质的色彩。

杜甫的诗是青黑色的弦

有人说,杜甫的诗要与唐代的编年史连起来读。他用凝重的青黑色,字字珠玑的记下唐代的衰落。青黑色不美,却是琴瑟的全部;杜诗不美,确实是唐代的梁木。国破山河在,城春草木深。当那位白发苍苍的诗人,拿起他忧愤的笔,拿起他痛惜的笔,一字一顿的念出诗,即使是暗淡的青黑色,也会突然散发出光彩,勾起人们的一行清泪。杜甫错过了唐代最鼎盛的时节,就如错过最美的烟花,只能看见青黑色的灰尘,所以他便用着灰尘为唐朝的荣誉和唐朝的诗绾上句号。

唐时的风拂过,唐时的雨落尽,唐时的繁华也散得无踪无影,却留下唐时的诗,一如一把锦瑟,从厚重而灰蒙蒙的历史中浮现出来,散发出愈益厚重的色彩。

唐诗是锦瑟上水白色的琴谱,锻蓝色的雕饰,和青黑色的弦。

锦瑟无端,思尽华年。

唐诗的色彩,三分洒脱,三分华丽,余下的三分缓缓酿出沉重的苦酒,轻洒在历史的锦瑟上,绣成琴谱,绣成雕饰,绣成青弦,便绣出半个盛唐。

两台相机没有导游没有国际电话没有GPS只有一颗永远向前的心走遍欧罗巴,从脚下开始。

真的没有想到我的文字可以吸引到大洋彼岸的约稿。曾经的我,在海外收获了很多令我难忘令我成长的经历,如今的我将把这些感悟和思考分享到世界的另一边,算是一种传递吧。未来的我即将赴美求学,相信这样的传递也必将会进行下去。

我们是乘坐Student Agency的大巴离开布拉格的,继续南下,投入多瑙河女神的蓝色怀抱。汽车跑了一晚上的夜路,我的脑袋也昏昏沉沉的颠簸了一个晚上。等到意识渐渐清醒,高速公路两旁出现的已经是修剪有序的绿化隔离带,逐步的变化为印象中标准的欧洲乡间景色。因为仅仅是早晨五点,在太阳还没有初升的时刻,看着路灯映射下的村镇我有些迷离——这种乡间景色我似曾相识。它是一种与之前的东欧经典形象有着些许差异的风格,在前面的旅途中我确定未曾见过这样的画面,但它又如此熟悉。想着想着我突然找到了答案:这种环境特别像三年前在德国作交换生时,早晨一起抹黑起床与小伙伴赶校车时的画面。一样的夜色,一样的建筑风格。难道我们来到西欧了么?

正当自己在这种错位化的感觉中纠缠的时候,汽车快速驶上了一座跨河大桥。随着越来越宽的河面和熹微晨光下的城市出现在车窗前,我的睡意与迷惑也开始被激动所驱散,因为我们刚刚跨过的这条河流有着一个世人皆知的名字:多瑙河。好宽的多瑙河!我不得不感慨一句。多瑙河在这里分成三支流过城市,离开时又汇为一体,仿佛刻意为了滋润这片土地似的。驶离大桥后,现代化的城市瞬间充斥眼前,宽阔平坦的沿河广场,高大的建筑物……两旁的景色在冲破河面上的晨雾后发生了突变,我们真的到达 “西欧”了。后来回想起来,也许在这那一刻我简单地把“西欧”同“发达”等同了起来吧。

这种错位感还在继续着,它体现在像机场一样先进整洁的火车站里,体现在第一次开始使用欧元结算,体现在突然爬升了一个档次的消费水准上。我们再也看不到19世纪风格的车站大厅,看不到动辄三位数标价的商品,看不到四四方方的老式电车穿梭于马路中央。一切的一切都被替换成了你所能想象到的最高端状态。不得不承认,也许是沾了阿尔卑斯山脚下的灵气,东欧的奥地利实在是“发达”的太像西欧国家了。

我们终于从中世纪的梦境中穿越回了现代。

地处欧洲中部的奥地利与八个国家接壤。这其中有天堂般的瑞士,也有斯洛伐克这样的穷弟兄;既有欧洲经济支柱的德国,也有欧债危机缠身的意大利。就是这种复杂的邻里关系,造就了它性格的复杂。奥地利意为“东方的国家”,在这个名字背后我们能数出一大串关键词:音乐故乡、滑雪天堂、水晶王国……阿尔卑斯山与多瑙河这两个带着梦幻色彩的名字也是无数寻梦者向往的符号。首都维也纳在著名的维也纳森林四面环抱下,作为多瑙河流经的第一个大城市,当之无愧的拥有了“多瑙河女神”的称号,而这个女神创造了全世界公认的最适合人类居住的环境。

我们安排给维也纳的一天时间显然有些紧俏,以至于在车站吃完早饭后显得有些无所适从,不知道要怎样才能最好的利用这有限的时间。正在迷茫纠结彷徨之际,一个中国同胞的出现把我们带

上了以探寻音乐为主线的维也纳之旅。她是一个老师,也是一个典型的背包客。从她身上的各种设备和大大小小的背包就能分辨出一二。我们决定暂时投靠这个资深的旅行者,一同前往市东南郊去探访音乐的历史。

为什么又出城了呢?因为此行的目的地是一个特殊的区域:墓地。我们走了一条似乎只有专业音乐爱好者才会选择的小众路线,亲自去拜谒那些伟大音乐家的安息之处。第一站是莫扎特长眠的圣马克斯公墓。经过几次转车后,我们接近了目的地所在,走进墓地才发觉这确实是一次奇特的旅程,整个陵园没有被世俗沾染的气息,而我们的游客心态似乎与这肃穆的氛围不相适应。所以在走进陵园前,我们调整了一下心情,收拾好着装,带着一种瞻仰伟人的心态开始寻找那个熟悉的名字。那天清晨来扫墓的人寥寥无几,也许因为这是一个贫民墓地吧,两边残破的石碑和道路上脱落的黄叶更烘托出了一种凉透心底的寒意。一直向前走到墓地中央时,在一个岔路边立着一块“Mozart”的牌子,岔路深处,有一个独立于其他布置的鲜花环抱下的墓穴,墓碑旁的小天使托腮沉思,似乎陷入了深深的悲痛中。不难看出,莫扎特在这里还是受到了后人特殊的优待。在向这位音乐巨匠鞠躬致敬后,我不禁猜想为什么如此才华横溢之人竟落得这样悲惨凄凉的结局——葬身于贫民墓地。后来在对莫扎特的介绍里我仿佛看到了“音乐史上的梵高”:天赋异禀却贫困潦倒,英年早逝是他们共有的悲剧性符号。莫扎特的一生虽然短暂,但却为世界创造出数量惊人的音乐瑰宝。也正是这些作品,延续了他不朽的生命。对于莫扎特对音乐界的贡献是多么的功勋卓著以及他所创作的作品是多么声名远扬,我想每一个喜欢音乐的人自会去主动了解。当亲自站在音乐巨匠的墓边时,感受着周围肃杀的气氛,我唯一的感慨就是:活着真好。也许我只是一介平凡之人,抱着敬仰之心来寻找巨人的影子吧。

离开圣马克斯公墓,我们继续向前,来到了全欧洲第二大墓地——维也纳中央公墓。使这里闻名于世的原因,也是音乐。中央公墓建于1784年,地面宽广,共有100多万个墓葬,按宗教划分为基督教墓区、犹太教墓区和伊斯兰教墓区等。而我们的坐标仅仅锁定在32A区——这个墓地中轴线核心区域上的名人墓区。树木葱笼,气势显赫,这里纵横交错地排列着许多大理石墓,这些墓碑以姿态各异的雕塑组成一个具有独特艺术魅力的墓群,而这些墓地的主人的名字使这个饶富欣赏价值的墓群变得更加引人入胜,这里安葬着海顿、贝多芬、舒伯特和施特劳斯父子等著名音乐家。

走进中央公墓时,就有了不同于圣马克思的感觉。这里的陵园整齐气派,每块墓地都像是精心设计的艺术品。在进入陵园时,还有专门的地图出售,上面明确表明了音乐家们长眠的准确位置——32A。现在的中央公墓更像是一个供游人参观的景点。进入墓地,看到许多和自己一样手持相机和地图的游客,当然目的地都是一个,笔直宽阔的墓园道路上很容易辨别方位。这座最初只

能安葬皇族的墓地一直保有着它贵族的血统,站在公墓中心放眼望去,绿树掩映中的墓区让人感到的只有宁静、祥和,绝无一丝之前圣马克斯时的孤寂和悲凉。同时,公墓里材质不同、造型各异的墓碑给公墓增添了不少艺术气息,成为人们公认的维也纳最美的地点之一。

来到一片不是特别大的三角形区域,这里的参观人数明显增加,32A到了。以莫扎特雕塑为中心的墓区左右分别安葬着20多位世界著名的音乐家。在这里,我们巧遇了一位学习音乐专业的中国学生,在她的讲解下,我们开始了解每个人的“墓后”故事。作为一个外行,能做到将他们的名字与故事一一对应也就成了此行最大的收获,通过一次拜谒之旅,一段段音乐史和一个个流派被深深的记在了心里。这是读十遍《西方音乐史》也换不来的求知动力吧。传说曾经有人面对贝多芬的墓碑用小提琴如痴如醉的演奏着大师的作品,可见这种精神的力量是多么的强大。虽然我们不是音乐人,但在聆听了音乐大师们不朽的乐曲之后,到维也纳中央公墓的音乐家墓地凭吊一下,也算是与圣贤们最“亲密的”接触了。

临走时,那个音乐学院的中国人又给了我们一个重要的信息——今天是金色音乐大厅的演出日。这样的爆炸性消息使我们如获至宝,回到城区在游客中心以超低的学生价买到了原价79欧的音乐会门票,我们也加入到了音乐朝圣者的洪流之中,为的就是感受一下世界最著名的音乐圣殿,同时也不忘记感慨国家对于学生的财政支持力度是多么夸张。有人说:“维也纳的空气里都流淌着华尔兹的旋律”,在这个音乐之都不听一场音乐会岂不是巨大的遗憾?

在音乐会前,我们还有一个下午时间探访维也纳老城。从地铁线路上径直折回老城中心,走出地铁口就是那座仰头都难以望到塔尖的教堂——圣史蒂芬大教堂,因为在这样古老且并不宽阔的街道上,眼前的它实在是过于高大了。圣史蒂芬大教堂建于十二世纪末,是全世界第二高的教堂。整个教堂的建筑风格呈奇特的混合式,朝西的正门是罗马风格,尖塔是哥特式,而圣坛是巴罗克风格,将这些不同的建筑风格融为一体,是人们历时四个多世纪并不断改建、修建的结果,又是维也纳人折中调和才能的体现。之前提到的奥地利复杂性格在这座教堂里也必然有相应的注脚吧。看到更高更大的教堂对于我们似乎已经渐渐失去了感官的刺激,因为一路上看到的大大小小的教堂充斥了行程的各个角落,而在高度上给人造成的威严感在100米和137米之间并没有质的变化,毕竟我们离穹顶实在是太远了。

教堂的旁边便是维也纳最繁华的中心商业街,在维也纳的老城区,我们终于找到了东欧建筑的典型风格。但是这里的东欧风情中弥漫着后现代的强劲气息,显然维也纳已经不甘于留恋中世纪奥匈帝国的荣光了。世界闻名的奢侈品牌临街而立,Lv、Chanel、-gUCCI、Dior、PATEK PHILIPPE瓜分了我们目之所及的店铺,加上步行街上滚滚的人流与商店里大包小裹满载而归的游客,无不凸显

着一个奢华都市的每分每秒。我们走进一家施华洛世奇的三层店面,仿佛走进了这个奥地利水晶王国的微缩博物馆,各式的水晶制品琳琅满目,身处其中不由的感受到熠熠光辉在身边四处闪耀。毫无意外的,在这里我们见证了中国买家的实力。“把按照钻石技艺切割的水晶当作玻璃来买”很好的说明了这个群体的惊人的消费能力。面对一面由无数小抽屉组成的散装水晶墙饰品专区,一个南方口音的大妈像在中药房抓药一样,每个柜子里面都抓了“几味药”,然后连数目都没清点就兴高采烈的投入了下一个专区的扫荡中。从某个方面来说,这次欧洲之行不得不说是在顶级消费品方面给我自己狠狠的补了一课,因为身边总是有那么一群中国同胞在欧洲的各大城市不遗余力为你免费科普,而你唯一需要做的就是默默的走进商店聆听一个又一个的中文对话即可。

在商业的魔障面前,我们的双眼迷离了,内心凌乱了……走走停停中不知用了多久才脱离了商业圈热烈的氛围。下一个目的地是霍夫堡宫殿,这个由两千九百个房间组成的庞大建筑群是哈布斯堡王朝奥匈帝国皇帝冬宫,有十八栋楼房、五十四个出口、十九座庭院,素有“城中之城”的美名。皇宫大门、英雄广场、皇宫正殿、珍宝馆这一系列气势恢宏的建筑都在证明曾经不可一世的奥匈帝国强大的实力。但留在我记忆深处的,却是那一群踢足球的孩子。皇宫实在是太大了,走到一半就已经两腿酸痛了,于是我们在珍宝馆前面的大草坪旁休息调整。草坪上有一群孩子们在快乐的踢足球,全然不介意来来往往的人流,他们呐喊着奔跑着,似乎很享受这个美好的下午。如果找一群小朋友在天安门广场上踢球会有什么后果呢?也许就是“享受”警察叔叔的特别照顾了吧。想到这,我不禁哈哈大笑了起来。

夕阳西下的时候我们特地赶到了多瑙河边,在滔滔大河的波涛里,思绪也被一阵阵河风吹拂的七零八落了,只剩下呆呆的看着。我不禁又要感慨一句:好蓝的多瑙河!在河岸边有一群光着脚戏水的年轻人,旁边绿地上一个个野餐的家庭欢声笑语。能在这样的环境下生活真是幸福啊,也许我看到“最适宜人类”消遣的下午是什么样子了。

晚上的音乐会感觉很美妙,我们坐在最靠近交响乐团的包厢中体验了一下贵族的视听感受。在这个世界顶尖的音乐大厅里,金碧辉煌的建筑风格和华丽璀璨的音响效果使其无愧于金色的美称。作为维也纳爱乐乐团的大本营,“世界第一乐团”与“世界首席音乐厅”交相辉映下的金色大厅,圆了我作为一个非音乐爱好者的探索之梦。如果我是一个音乐人,感触可能会更深吧。

一场音乐会华丽落幕,我们的多瑙河女神也伴随着最后一个音符回荡在了记忆的金色大厅中。

Q: 当初是怎样的契机让你成立了华风?

D: 华风的 idea 并不是来自于我,我大一的时候CSSA 的副主席想要做一本中文杂志,我参与了,但最后只做了一期就没有做下去。我觉得有些可惜,一年以后我决定把华风重新做起来,所以我就去招人,又再重新确定它的理念和路线。幸运的是最后找到了一批非常愿意跟我一起创办华风的人,很快把它做起来了。其实我只当了一期华风的主编,后来我在忙很多别的事情,比如成立了 CPLA。张晓鸥把它接过去管以后,把它做得更专业更大了。

最开始做华风,我对它的定位是一个 bridge,a bridge between Chinese students and American students。我希望通过这本杂志能让美国学生更了解中国文化,更了解中国学生,也让中国学生更能够融入美国学生。因为我发现很多中国学生只跟中国学生或国际学生 hang out,很难融入美国人的圈子。这是我的初衷。

其实不论的创立华风也好,CPLA 也好,动机都很简单,就是希望自己能够为这个社会或者我们这

些学生做一些事情。我的动机都是想为别人做一些事情,没有考虑对自己的发展有没有帮助。但可能说做这些对我的帮助是在无形之中的,不管是组织能力还是领导能力。所以对我个人来说是一件 fulfill yourself 的事情,让我觉得我的大学生活是有意义的,值得回忆的,这是我最大的收获。

何平衡活动跟学习的?你觉得对我们来说这么多课外活动是否真的有必要?

D: 认识我的人都知道我是一个以工作为中心的人,因为我觉得大学生是很有必要参加课外活动的,尤其是我们这些国际学生。说实在的,如果你没有其他经验,你就算有一个 4.0 的 gPA,so what ?你能做什么?你没有 skills,你不知道怎么 team work,你不知道怎么 be creative,你不知道怎么做一个leader,你根本不懂得如何真正做好一件事情。

时间是要看你怎么安排的。我的朋友都会说我蛮工作狂的,他们都知道我可以没有 social life,我可以没有其他,但我会让我的学习跟社团工作井井有条。我觉得你把事情安排好,这两者是可以兼顾的。而且很多说没空的同学是把时间用在无关紧要的事情上,所以只要合理利用时间,schedule 其实是很有弹性的。

Q: 那你认为你最有价值的经历是什么?

D: 我觉得每个事情都有它存在的价值,或者说有它当时存在的价值。有些东西我以后回头看,可能对于我的人生只是一件芝麻绿豆的事,但在当时来说它是非常有价值的,对我的意义非常大。

我觉得最 valuable 的是我的 connection,以及我从这些 connection 的人中学到的东西。其实我比较喜欢跟比我年龄大的人在一起,因为我觉得能学到很多东西。在我人生的每一个阶段都有几个很有经验的人无私的帮助我,这是我最珍惜的东西。

Q:能不能给我们介绍一下你现在的工作和生活状态?又是什么让你做出这样的选择?

D: 我现在在北京四中国际校区负责做他们所有学生和老师的交换项目。现在我在跑美国学校这边的联络,跟他们做一些项目。我之后可能会做一些合作办学的事情,和美国合作办学校或者班课程班。

我是一个挺喜欢改变的人,不喜欢墨守成规而喜欢不断得做一些有挑战的事。11 年 6 月份毕业之后,我在波特兰工作了一年,当时那个工作我不太喜欢。我觉得,OK,如果我在这继续做,拿到一个绿卡,然后我 30 岁,那我回头看我我二十几岁做了什么,就是为了一个绿卡做了一份我不喜欢的事情。我觉得挺不值得的。所以我决定回国,但我的家人每一个都持反对意见,甚至到了每天跟我妈吵架的地步,最后我把机票买了辞职信交了,才告诉我爸几点来机场接我。

现在看来我回国是对的。回国之后我发现国内真的有很多机会,我能够很自由的选择我要干的事情,决定我的 career path。而且我现在可以看到很多人,我在北京可以看到很多不同人不同的生活方式,我能够去想,去 design 我的未来要怎么样。在国内有一个好处就是你可以选择你的老板,而不是由老板来选择你。我面试了很多大公司小公司之后,我觉得工作这个事情你需要去选择一个你觉得你能够做好的事情。我当时看到这个工作之后我就觉得我绝对可以,不就是跟美国一些中学校长打交道嘛,我大学四年做了很多这样的事情。所以这次跟我老板一起出差我老板都觉得很惊讶,因为我面对那些五六十岁的中学校长一点都不怯场,该跟人家讨价还价就讨价还价。所以你选择工作时一定要选择一个你觉得你可以做到如鱼得水又可以看到希望的工作。

Q; 今年是华风成立 4 周年,最后请说说对华风的寄语!

D: 其实我一直不希望华风走向太商业化的道路。华风有它的独特性,我相信只要华风它还有它自己的读者就一定能继续走下去。我希望它能保持自己的个性,还有华风的成员在做这本杂志时都能想到做这件事是为了别人而不只是 build up your resume,我们是为了传播中国文化。最后我希望十年,二十年之后我们回到 UO 华风还存在,一代一代的 Ducks 把它做得越来越好。

风之所向,芝城掠影One Day In Chicago

概况:芝加哥(Chicago)位于美国中西部伊利诺伊州,东临密歇根湖,是仅次于纽约(New York)和洛杉矶(Los Angels)的美国第三大城市。芝城同时也是全球最重要的一个金融中心,美国第二大的商业中心区,有着“第二城”的美誉。从密歇根湖面上吹来的风在这座城市的高楼大厦中呼啸穿过,人们因此又给了芝加哥一个贴切的昵称:“风之城”(Wind city)。

一直想着有机会要去大城市走走,去体味一下那些繁华的景色。而在这个冬假,上天却出其不意的给了一个机会,让我提前领略了芝城的妖娆。 由于天气原因航班开始错乱,不得不在Chicago逗留一天。也仅仅就是这么一天,便已让我无限沉沦在这座城市的怀抱之中。芝城于我,就像是个掀开了一点面纱然后又迅速转过了身的舞女,只是匆匆的一瞥,已然惊鸿。 我对芝加哥的第一印象就是璀璨。 下了飞机之后在机场里迷了路。奥黑尔国际机场,全球最繁忙的机场之一,几幢登机楼之间需要坐着轨道列车到达。在人群中穿梭了二十多分钟以后终于成功的拿到了行李,然后满大街的找朋友的车。机场外等人的车队排成长长的看不见头的队伍,却井然有序的慢慢挪动着并没有堵塞的情况。不禁就对这城市的繁华产生了好感。 因为傍晚的缘故,天色渐渐地从浅色变成深蓝,然后墨黑。抬头看看天空,看不见什么星星。忽然间觉得也许是那些星光都掉落了下来,车流的灯光,高楼大厦的霓虹,整个城市华灯初上。灯光的聚散失焦,就像是灿烂闪烁的明星,点染了这个城市的夜晚。 几经波折找到了旅店。门前停满了各式各样的计程车;裹着长长风衣的服务生彬彬有礼的推着行李车打开厚重的玻璃门;酒店里温暖到令人窒息的温度与外面的寒冷有了鲜明的对比。安顿好了行李之后却还不晚,于是就下楼去走走。天有些微微的下雨,风从高楼之间穿梭着呼啸而过,吹起人们的衣角和头发。风之城,果然是名副其实。 酒店在芝加哥的Downtown,出门就是密歇根大道(Michigan Avenue)。这条街的宽阔和豪华不亚于巴黎的香榭丽舍大道,被誉为“壮丽的一英里”(Magnificent Mile)。街边有着最奢华的旅店和商场,灯火通明。在安静的小城里呆地久了,突然就对这样的繁华景象无法直视了。由于快要圣诞,商店中的布置都十分的有特色。红色的缎带蝴蝶结,绿色的圣诞树,白色的雪人,还有坐着驯鹿马车的圣诞老人。镀上了一层金色的灯光,让人在寒冷的街上感到一丝丝温暖和安逸。沿着Michigan Avenue和Monroe Street一路走着,风光和夜景都好,而且无论如何也走不出这高楼林立,就这样迷失在这片钢筋混凝土的森林里。而大城市里的人也似乎更注意自己的衣着打扮。许多人都裹着长长的直到脚踝的大衣。有着精致妆容的女士套着黑色的手套,踩着亮亮的高跟鞋,轻盈的挽着身边西装革履绅士的手臂,谈笑之间匆忙的走过。马路的中间车辆川流不息 。除了正常的各种车辆外,密歇根大道上还有缓慢行驶着的马车,应该是某种观光旅游的项目。在四周灿烂灯光的环绕下,装饰

的精致漂亮的马车就仿佛是童话故事里的一部分,而这有些喧闹的夜晚,在一瞬间也充满了浪漫和温柔的气息。脑海中不知怎么跳出了辛弃疾的词句:东风夜放花千树,更吹落,星如雨。宝马雕车香满路。凤箫声动,玉壶光转,一夜鱼龙舞。这西方世界的喧闹之美,居然也可以和千年之前的东方声色如此的相似。 城市之中有架高的轨道,列车的轰鸣淹没了一切宁静的思绪。那一刻你可以看得到人们脸上细致的表情,并且忽略他们谈话的内容。微笑的,严肃的,喜悦的,漠然的。不禁去猜想那一张张各异的脸孔之后都有怎样的故事,他们为什么欢喜,或者为什么沉默?在这样的流光和人群之中,每一个擦肩而过的人之间,都隔了一整座盛大的城池。没有过去,也没有未来,仅仅只是当下,心跳在这灿烂的繁华的夜晚。 然而也总有那么一些角落,收藏了一座城市的悲伤。在繁华熙攘的街边,随处可见衣衫褴褛的乞讨者。在寒冷的夜里他们默默地坐在路边,看着眼前人来人往。也有卖艺的少年拉着小提琴,悠扬的音色在寒冷的冬天里传的并不远,而他闭着眼睛,或许只是沉醉在了自己的世界中。这样极端反差的生活状态,在大城市里并不少见。Chicago是个犯罪率在全美排名很高的城市。在如此紧张压抑的世界中,人们为了生活和欲望,可以做出一切善良或者邪恶的事。 回旅店之前找不到什么可以吃的东西,于是去了Subway。在这样快节奏的城市里,几乎每个Block的转角有着M记,Star-bucks和Subway之类快捷的餐厅。可以想象那些在高楼里工作的人们在短暂的午餐时间,匆匆的跑出办公室,然后迅速的买好快餐又上楼继续工作,一手拿着汉堡,一手打着电脑。悠闲,的确是不大适合用来形容Chicago的。 回去之后站在窗边看看外面的景色。十一楼的高度,却看不尽这里夜晚的繁华——在楼和楼之间,永远是争相底地比较高度,而渐渐淹没一望无边的视线。 晚安,芝城。

第二天醒来的时候已经接近中午了,因为外边下着雨不见阳光,于是有些昏沉。-Check Out存了行李出去晃悠。仅仅还剩下半天的时间,我该怎样去欣赏这座城市呢?有了,就按着地铁线走吧。 芝城的地铁线分成两条,红线和蓝线。在地下的入口,有小小的售票Station,可以买一张充值卡然后刷进站。大城市的地铁站真的都十分陈旧,通往地下的楼梯狭窄得只能容一人通过,而地下的光线也昏暗的让人觉得有些发闷。站台于轨道之间没有护栏,依旧保持着最简单的构造,几十年如一日。而地铁本身也很古老,车内是纯色的木结构,木头的椅子和扶手。我自己倒是十分喜欢这样复古的感觉,似乎可以随着这样的车到达一些不知名的地方,甚至是不知名的时光里。 我的第一站去了Chinatown。好吧,我承认我是为了吃饭去的,但这一站的确去对了。芝城的中国城也有着一段历史,发展的很是不错。华埠主街叫永活街(Went-worth Avenue)。大牌坊是一定不能少的,朝外写着“天下为公”,朝内写着“礼义廉耻”。街上店铺以餐馆居多,其次是礼品店和南货店。强烈推荐那里的川菜和粤菜,非常正宗。而且虽然Chicago的税很高,但是菜本身的价格都不贵,瞬间觉得是价廉物美了。 饱餐一顿后又坐车返回了密歇根大道地区,开始我接下来的旅程。 芝城是座很文艺的城市,有46座博物馆、200多家剧院。她也有这世界上最大的公共图书馆,藏书 200多万册。误打误撞的去了芝加哥艺术学院(Art Institute of Chica-go)。学生票价是二十多刀的样子。这所学院是美国顶尖的艺术教育机构之一,由博物馆和学校两部分组成,建校于1866年。其博物馆以收藏大量印象派作品以及美国艺术品着称,如莫奈和梵高。其学院则旨在培养视觉艺术人才,闻一多就曾经在这所学校中进修。因为时间的紧迫,我只是走马观花的逛完了这座博物馆,却是逛的眼花缭乱五体投地。艺术的世界是无法理解的,也许正应了那句话吧,只可意会,不可言传。有一天,你是不是也该细细的去品味一下呢? 出来之后慢慢沿街走去千禧公园(Millennium Park),位于这个城市中心的绿地广场。云门(Cloud gate)是千禧公园的标志性雕塑,也算是芝城的地标。他的主体造型类似于一个椭圆,高33英尺,长66英尺,宽42英尺,重约110吨。市民们都亲切的叫他“豆子”(The Bean),因为远远地看去,云门就像是一个巨大的豌豆。城市的高楼和景色倒映在豆子光滑的不锈钢表面上,变成各种各样神奇的样子。人们纷纷对着豆子拍下各种扭曲的自己,欣赏着这个城市变了形状的姿态。公园的下边有个滑冰场,人们成群结队的轻快的笑着飞扬着。父母拉着萝莉和正太的手慢慢的教导他们,情侣们十指相

扣幸福的转圈。伴随着动听的音乐,让冬天跃动了起来。 沿着公园一直向与城市相反的方向行走,走到了密歇根湖边(Michigan Lake)。湖水的颜色十分的神奇,那是一种淡淡的清澈透明的蓝绿色,有种特别深邃的魅力。远远地眺望,可以看得到著名的海军码头(Navy Pier)和博物馆区。风沿着湖面上吹过来,有大群大群的海鸟飞过。这该算是城市里的一抹清新了吧。 我的最后一站是西尔斯大厦(Willis Tower)。提起摩天大楼,人们总会想起纽约。但其实美国最高的大楼并不在纽约,而是这座在Chicago的西尔斯大厦。这座大楼的上方有两根直冲天际的巨型天线,让他看起来很是卖萌。这幢摩天大楼由1600名工人用3年时间建成,坐落在市中心偏西部。1974年对外开放,当时为世界最高建筑。这项纪录保持了20多年直到1996年才被马来西亚首都吉隆坡一 幢新楼打破。大厦的房主是美国最大的一家零售商西尔斯公司。公司的总部就设在这里,它的7000名职工占用大楼下面的50层,上面的50多层用来出租。大厦的第103层叫摩天台(Skydeck),设有瞭望台,对游人开放。给我的感觉和Seattle的Needle Space一样,只不过还要高出太多。乘坐特快电梯用时1分47秒可以到达。Skydeck有三个玻璃全透明的观察点,站在里边就像是悬空站在了几百英尺高的天空中。 在瞭望台上可俯视芝加哥市全景。只可惜我去的这天一直是阴天有小雨,空中的雾气很重,能见度特别的低,看出去几乎是纯白的一片,只能用心体会了一下俯瞰城市的感觉。 很快的又是一天的傍晚。我折回了旅店取了行李去机场。一路上灯光又渐渐地点亮了芝城的夜晚,只是这次我是要向你道别了。1891年当英国作家吉卜林来到芝加哥之后说,“我邂逅了一座城市——一座真正的城市。人们叫它芝加哥。”而我在21世纪的今天,也同样的对这个地方一见钟情。只愿下一次的相逢不要像这样太匆匆;重游故地,只有细细品味,才会领略这座城市的风情。

2012年5月,一部名为《舌尖上的中国》的七集纪录片在网络上引起了极大的关注,也勾起了远离故乡美食的海外留学生们肚子里的馋虫。不过,与出国前想象中的梦幻般的留学生活不同,由于中西烹饪习惯的差异,身居异乡的中国学生很少能够接受当地的主流饮食,普遍面临饮食上的“水土不服”。

初到北美的中国留学生会被当地的一些特色美食所吸引,美国的汉堡和披萨、法国的奶酪和面包、西班牙的火腿和海鲜饭、德国和比利时的啤酒、希腊的橄榄油、印度和东南亚的咖喱、日本的寿司和拉面、韩国的泡菜和烤肉、墨西哥的卷饼和薯片、巴西和阿根廷的牛排烧烤……而美国相对低廉的食品价格更是让无数留学生大为感慨,在国内充满小资情调的哈根达斯和星巴克在这里不过是路边店和超市货的代名词。面对琳琅满目的商品和令人动心的价格,不少留学生在最初落地美国的一段时间内充满了幸福感和满足感。虽然这些美食诱惑着中国学子初来乍到的味蕾,但它们都是“小食怡情,常食亏胃”。享受完各国风情的大餐或者经年累月的快餐果腹之后,大多数留学生的中国胃就已经向自己提出了强烈的抗议。饮食热量高吃了发胖,不习惯西方烹饪方法,甚至整天快餐冷食导致身体不适、消化不良,都是留学生们经常抱怨的理由。

为了回味家乡菜的味道,犒劳一下漂洋过海跟随自己的中国胃,不少同学会把目光转向当地附近的中餐馆,以求改善伙食。然而除了纽约、旧金山等华人聚居区外,美国大多数城市的中餐馆似乎与留学生们一样水土不服。不少打着中餐馆旗号的餐馆里的菜单充斥着左宗鸡、蒙古牛等奇怪的菜式,而宫保鸡等少数熟悉的菜品味道也与国内相差甚远。有人说地道的中餐没有办法被大多数美国人接受,为了照顾美国人的口味,大多数美国的中餐馆都把传统中餐菜式改做成酸甜

口味。还有人甚至注意到了一个有趣的现象:美国的很多中餐馆是墨西哥人掌勺的,而日本餐馆大部分是中国人掌勺。由此一来,留学生们想从餐馆里寻找“家的慰藉”,实属奢望。

想要拯救自己的中国胃,满足自己的味蕾,不少留学生因地制宜,充分发挥当地有限的超市资源,锻炼出一手中西合璧的好厨艺。自己开火做饭也能节省一些开支,同时冷清寂寞的公寓里也会因烹饪多出一些家的温馨。但自己做饭也会面临新的问题,工欲善其事必先利其器,美国厨房里最常用的厨具是烤箱和平底的炉子,烹饪习惯跟中国完全不同,各种食谱里也少有炒菜,都是以烧烤、焖煮、油炸为主,这对中国胃来说很难适应。好在网络时代交流通讯获取信息的成本非常低,在QQ或者电话里向父母请教,在博客和微博上面搜罗各种中式食谱都是可行的方法。而在超市里面对自己以前没见过或者没留意的各种蔬菜、调料,庖丁解牛般注明的猪牛羊肉的部位,不少留学生们买回菜了却完全不知道该如何下锅。不过好在一回生二回熟,经历了几次“暗黑料理”之后大家都摸出规律了,做出可口的饭菜也是顺理成章的事情。几个月后,不少人也会惊讶的发现留学之后,自己的做饭水平比英语水平进步得还快,“本来以为去新东方学校是来提高英语的,没想到自己是来新东方厨师学校锻炼厨艺的。”

《舌尖上的中国》的热播,在海外留学生群体当中引起极大反响。不少人在思乡之余,把更大的热情投入到了发掘当地美食、提高自己厨艺的伟大事业中。即使条件有限,学习繁忙,留学生们还是能够凭借自己的聪明才智以及勤劳双手,练出一手中西合璧的好厨艺。 “我们的舌尖要靠我们自己来满足,如果拍一部《舌尖上的留学》,那一定是一部留学生的厨房史。”

On May, 2012, A seven-episode Chinese TV documentary “A Bite of China” has been broadcast on the network and attracted wide attention, and it also brought overseas students’ taste bud back to their hometown. However, compare to the student’s imagined fantasy overseas life before leaving their counties, the school live is very different. Because of the food culture differences between Eastern and Western, Chinese students are very difficult at finding local mainstream food. The majority of them are not acclimatizing with the food. Many Chinese students attracted by various local cuisines when they first got in the United States, such as American hamburger and pizza, French cheese and bread, Spanish ham and seafood fried rice, Germany and Belgian beer, Greek olive oil, Indian and Southeastern Asian curry, Japanese sushi and udon, Korean kimchi and BBQ, Mexican tortilla and chips, Brazilian and Argentine BBQ steak… Moreover, the low price of American food surprised even more students. Instead of Chinese white-collar’s favorite, which are Haagen-dazs and Starbucks, they are just synonyms of normal products in the supermarket or roadside shops. Facing with the variety of goods and inexpensive prices, a lot of students filled with happiness and fulfillment in the U.S., in a short time. Although these dishes enticed the taste buds of Chinese students who had just arrived, they are “Cheering with a little, losing stomach if eat too often”. After enjoy various countries’ best dishes or long time feed by fast foods, most of students are strongly agented by their “Chinese stomach”. Therefore, many students often complain that they have been gained a lot of weights after eaten high-calories foods, not accustomed to Western cooking methods, and eaten cold-food and fast-food all day can lead to physical discomfort and indigestion.To memorable the taste of local cuisines, and reward the overseas’ “Chinese stomach”, many students turn their attentions to the local Chinese restaurants for more food choices. Other than the New York, San Francisco, etc. which city has big Chinese residential area, the most of Chinese restaurants are also not acclimatized similar to students. Many so-called Chinese restaurants’ menu is full of odd dishes, such as Tso’s chicken, Mongolian cattle, and others, and Kung Pao chicken and a few of other familiar dishes tastes far cry from domestic. Some people say that the authentic Chinese food is very difficult accepted by the Americans, in order to take care

of American’s taste, the majority of Chinese restaurants change the traditional Chinese dishes to sweet and sour taste. Some people even noticed an interesting phenomenon: a lot of restaurants in the United States hire Mexican chef, and Japanese restaurants hire Chinese chef. As a result, it is wishful thinking for the students who want to find “home consolation” from these restaurants.Many students want to save their “Chinese stomach” and satisfy their taste bud, they “when in America do as the Americans do” to give full play to the limited local supermarket recourses, and build up very good Chinese and Western cooking skills. Cooking by themselves can save some expenses, and give some warmth of home feeling to their lonely apartment, at the same time. However, cooking by their own brings new problems. If they want to do well, they must sharpen their tools first, and most of common United States’ kitchenware is oven and flat bottom stove. The cooking habits are totally different with China, very few cooking recipes have fried vegetables, and most of them are mainly focus on barbecue, simmer, and fried, which is hard to satisfied those “Chinese stomach”. Fortunately, the costs to access information and communication on the Internet is very low, using QQ and telephone to get advises from parents, collecting the variety of Chinese recipes are also feasible methods in Weibo and Blog. Nevertheless, many students do not know how to cook various vegetables, spices, specific pork, beef, and mutton parts, which they never seen or did not pay attention before in the supermarket. Fortunately, “awkward at first but skillful later on”, after experienced several “Dark cuisine”, make delicious meals are very logical thing. Several months later, a lot of student astonished by the improvements of cooking skill, which is faster than learning English. “Originally, they want to improve English in New Oriental School, but they did not expect to go to the New East Cuisine School to improve cooking”. The success of “A Bite of China” results in a great repercussion among the overseas students, and many of them shift their passion from homesickness to explore great local cuisines and improve their cooking skills. Even though the condition is limited by studying, they are still able to rely on their ingenuity and hard working to cook and mix Chinese and Western food together very well. The tongue satisfied by our own taste, if someone shoots “A bites of study aboard”, it would becomes the history of overseas students’ kitchen.

小时候的我最喜欢放暑假了,因为可以到老城南我外公家去。外公家住在上江考棚,那里大多是清代和民国时期的老房子,一进一进的,有厅堂,有院落,有天井,还有夏天特有的慵懒的时光。

外公喜欢画国画,最擅长的是工笔花鸟。到外公那里,可以吃到炒米糖,可以喝到茉莉花茶,可以看他一笔一笔地作画,还可以听他手捻美髯吟唐诗,听他绘声绘色讲古人的故事。

我还记得外公家的一屋一瓦,一窗一门,尽管这处老宅已经拆除二十多年了,这一带也早已是高楼林立了。从我家贡院街出发,经夫子庙广场,过文德桥,再到炒库街,穿大油坊巷,拐进马道街,便到了上江考棚。用手轻轻摇动古铜色的门环,喊一声“外公,我来了!”不一会儿,便听到外公迟缓的脚步声,听到门闩被拉开了,外公盖满白发的头从门里探了出来,看到我了,笑眯眯地说:“哦,哦,来了!”若小门是虚掩的,我便轻轻推开半扇,“吱呀”一声,侧身溜进门里,有时会趁外公背身之际,猛叫一声“公公!”吓得他老人家一个劲地拍着胸口,笑着嗔怪道:“哟哟哟,坏孩子,吓死我啦!”

外公家住的是院落的最后一进,厅堂内挂着一幅古代国画人物长轴,两边是一幅对联,写的什么我已记不清了。厅堂给我印象最深的,要数门上的那一块块颜色各异的印花玻璃了,到现在我都能记得玻璃的颜色和形状,以及在一天中不同光线下折射出的不同光感。我曾被夏日黄昏时分玻璃投映在地上的斑斓光影莫名地感动过,也说不清当时为什么会有一种

想流泪的感觉。印象最深的要数外公家天井里的

那口老井了。老井的井圈是青石的,高于地表,井圈外的地永远是湿滑的,背阴处青苔丛生。井圈内测,因为打水时井绳上下的磨损,一道道刻痕清晰可见。我闲得无聊时,常常会趴在井口,照镜子似地脸朝下,还时不时地干吼几声,听井下传来的回声,自得其乐。我学会了用小木桶打井水,一寸一寸地放下麻绳,感觉小木桶已接近水面时,手腕一抖,只听“噗”的一声,小木桶翻入井水中;感觉装满水了,再一寸一寸地往上提,要注意保持水桶的平衡。这时性子不能急,否则拎上来的水连半桶都不到。记得有一年夏天,天气实在太热,我在井台上偷偷拎了几桶井水冲凉,被外公发现了,好生训斥了我一通,说会伤了身体,吓得我再也不敢这样做了。

外公是地地道道的北京人,说着一口好听的“京片子”,宛如歌唱或京剧念白。外公“外派”我干的活有两样,一样是替他购买南京生产的“北京吃食”,而且非“桃源村”不可,我记得有萨其马、“蜜三刀”和“金缸其”;另一样是购买国画颜料,在新街口的南京工艺美术商店,像朱砂、石青、藤黄、花青、酞白等名称,到现在我还能记起,这些粉状颜料都是用宣纸包装的,上面盖着商家的朱红色的“店印”。当然,每次干完这些“外派”活后,外公总是笑呵呵地从他那装饼干的铁听子里,拿出各种好吃的“犒劳”我。

在外公家,不仅可以吃到许多好吃的,更重要的是能看到许多好看的杂志和书籍,我印象比较深的杂志有《语丝》(解放前出版的)、《新观

察》、《长春电影》、《大众电影》、《上海文学》、《收获》等,书籍有《古城春色》、《苦菜花》、《三家巷》、《野火春风斗古城》、《红字》等,特别值得一提的是,我当年在外 公家读的《红字》,外公后来送给了我,我一直珍藏着。每当看到这本书,我就会想起那时在外公家读这本书时的情景,虽然当时年纪小,还读不懂这本书,但封面和插画留给我的印象很深。

感谢我的外公,在他那座老城南的老宅里,我最初熏染到了书香,从小就爱上了读书,并渐渐养成了读书的习惯。“斜光到晓穿朱户”,那五彩玻璃投下的斑斓的光影,勾勒出一个少年读书的剪影,定格为一段老城南的记忆,一直鲜活地留存在我的脑海里。

关于老城南的记忆,在我,已经是斑斑驳驳的了,就像生满青苔的老井。随着城市建设大规模的改造,老城南的最后一抹诗意也行将消逝。我的心在催促我:“快去为它留个影吧!”昨天是星期天,我背着相机来到老城南仅存的几条街巷。也许,人们很难相信,在如今高楼林立的南京城,竟还有这一片古意苍苍、已显颓败的街巷院落,竟还有这一代代在这里生生不息的我的乡亲们。

我怀着一种只有我能理解的复杂感情,拍完了这组图片,心里忽然生出几许怅惘。我在想,当这粉墙黛瓦的马头墙、刻痕累累的老井、泛着锈色的门环、幽深清寂的窄巷最终一旦消逝后,还有什么实物实景可供我们这些南京人去回忆、去感怀的呢?

Chinese Philanthropic Leadership Association, as the first student group that focus on philanthropy and

leadership development, was founded by two Chinese students, Fangdian Du (founder of Huafeng Magazine) and Xuanyao Zhu on January 29th, 2011. Although CPLA is an under three-year-old association, it is a professional group that has tremendous impacts on students of University of Oregon. As the only Asian student organization that has been on the cover of LCB Magazine, the purpose of CPLA is not only developing philanthropic in China, but also practice the leadership of CPLA members in order to induct them to be philanthropic leaders in the future.

The reason that CPLA, a only three years old association, grows so fast is because the summer projects held each year. The first summer project of CPLA is called Transforming Waste Into Empowerment, that is, by collecting used textbooks and other outside-classroom reading materials and shipping those books to children who cannot afford them in rural China, CPLA

brought those children knowledge, happiness and human warmth. The summer project of the second summer is called International Leadership Syndicate. In the project, CPLA brought three graduate students and a doctor candidate to China. We worked with Hunan Environmental Protection Action Association together to investigate the water quality in China and to teach Chinese high school and middle school students how to make Water Pasteurization Indicator (WAPI), which is used for energy conservation and emission reduction. This project was an enormous success. Not only Hunan TV has broadcasted it, but also many celebrities such as Daniel Wu, Han Wang and Ge Hu, have sent us their support to our project as well as to our organization. Members of CPLA also have attended Clinton Global Initiative University with our ILS project and acquired appreciation from President Clinton.

As this coming annual summer project, No Child Left-Behind, CPLA will focus on the problem of Chinese left-behind children. We

have noticed that there are currently around 5.8 million left-behind children in China. Their parents are always outside working. The only possible time for their parents to go back home is the Spring Festival. Sometimes, the difficulty of getting train tickets or other transportation tickets would make it almost impossible for some of those parents to go back home. Left-behind children have serious lack of care and affection. Majorly, those children live in remote villages. The living conditions at these areas are usually so harsh that some basic living needs cannot be satisfied for these children, such as food. Another huge problem of left-behind children is education. They do not even have enough learning necessities. Some areas do not have schools, or some would have school with broke window and ceilings. When we asked about those children’s dreams, a lot of them answered, “I want to eat meat tonight” or “I want to work just like my parents, so they would not have such heavy burden”. This summer, CPLA will go to an elementary school that is located in a village where many left-behind children are gathered with many volunteers to

CPLA之所以成长的如此飞快,全离不开每年的暑期项目。在成立之初,CPLA第一个暑期项目的名字是TWIE(Transform-ing Waste Into Empowerment),CPLA通过收集在城镇小孩的淘汰了的教科书和课外读物,再把他们捐赠给农村小学里的付不起书本费用的小孩,带给他们更多的知识,快乐和温暖。第二年的暑期项目为ILS (International Leadership Syndicate),CPLA带领了三名美国硕博士和一名印度籍研究生回到了中国,与湖南环保社团联合会一起关注中国水质,教导初中生制作一个叫做WAPI的水杀菌指示器来起到节能减排的作用。这个项目取得了巨大的成功,曾经被湖南卫视报道,也得到了众多明星的支持,比如吴彦祖,汪涵和胡歌等。CPLA成员也带着我们每年的暑期项目参加了两界克林顿全球倡议研讨会(Clin-ton Global Initiative University),也获得过前任总统克林顿的关注和赞赏。

今年,CPLA将会关注于中国留守儿童的这个问题。我们发现,中国目前有5千8百万留守儿童。他们的父母常年在外打工,一年只有春节才会回家一次,甚至有些父母因为紧张的春运,连这一次家都会很难回,留守儿童是十分缺少关爱的,孩子们的家通常都地处于偏僻的乡村,有些孩子连温饱都达不到,经常饿一顿饱一顿。留守儿童的教育也是很大的一个问题,他们没有好的读书条件,没有那么多愿意弯下腰,愿意融入的老师教导他们做人的道理。当被问及他们的梦想时,很多孩子都只是回答:我今晚想吃肉。亦或是我想象爸爸妈妈一样去打工。今年夏天,CPLA会带领志愿者们,来到一个湖南留守儿童聚集的贫困的小学,给孩子们送关爱,送温暖。CPLA希望通过筹资,宣传,获取赞助,以及和留守儿童建立一对一的心灵导师的关系,实实在在的影响留守儿童的未来,同时,CPLA也会成立专属助学基金,帮助那些品学兼优的孩子完成

学业,让他们明白他们的人生不需要重复父辈的无奈,他们是有人关爱的。

在两年多的成长历程中,CPLA不仅关注祖国的慈善事业,作为留学生社团,我们在美国当地已经举办了多次社区服务。CPLA成员也完成了总计进百小时的志愿者经历。涉及到有Eugene当地的敬老院(Holly Residential Care Center),成员们耐心的和那些没有自理能力的老人交流,和老人们一起做趣味益智题,以及做手工装饰品来欢度万圣节,与她们共享欢乐的时光。成员们也去过宠物收留所 (Green County Humane Society),为可爱的小猫小狗们大扫除,给他们一个干净温馨的小家,不用再流浪。在一年一度的马丁路德金纪念日,CPLA的成员们还去过Eugene当地的威拉米特高中(Willa-mette high school),为那儿的学生重新粉刷教室的墙壁,给他们的操场铲草,给他们带来一个焕然一新的读书环境。同时, CPLA的成员们还去过 Greenhill Humane Society种树,给大自然多添一点新鲜的空气。我们愿意把自己的爱都用在公益上,让这里因我们的存在而更美好。在接下来的日子里,CPLA将举行更多的社区服务活动, 尽我们的努力来让Eugene变得更加美好。

为 了 保 证 每 年 暑 期 项 目 的 顺 利 进行,CPLA的筹资小组也在校内举办了很多项目筹资活动。饱受大家喜爱的就是CPLA的传统项目!flea market跳蚤市场!CPLA收集大家不再需要的衣物,玩具,教科书等等,回收这些资源然后再卖出。以极低的价格卖给有需要的同学,真正的做到物极力用,环保不浪费。此外,德州扑克竟标赛也是大家比较热衷的一个项目,通过技巧和心理的较量,让大家感受到不同文化纸牌的玩法,为大家丰富课余生活的同时,也筹集到了暑期项目的资金。这个学期,我们依旧会为大家带来有趣的活动,希望大家能踊跃报名,为慈善事业出一份力!

俄勒冈大学中国青年慈善领袖会(Chinese Philanthropic Leadership Association)是2011年1月29日由两名中国学生, 杜芳甸(同时也是华风创始人)、朱宣瑶创立的第一个着重于公益慈善及领导力培训的学生团体。作为一个创立不到三年的组织, CPLA有着超乎一般的影响力和专业性。作为UO唯一登上商学院年刊的亚洲学生组织,CPLA的宗旨不仅仅是为了发展中国慈善事业,它更注重通过不同的公益项目来锻炼成员的能力,培养他们成为中国未来的青年慈善领袖。

After more than two years of development, CPLA is not only conducting philanthropy in our home country, as an international student organization, we have also done many community service as well. CPLA members have finished hundreds hours of volunteers including: spending Halloween and playing Trivia with residents at Holly Residential Care Center, cleaning for lovely cats and dogs at Green County Humane Society, painting walls of classrooms at Willamette High School, planting saplings at Greenhill Humane Society and so on. In the future, CPLA will get involved with many more community service, and try our best to make our community better.

In order to make sure to succeed our summer project, the fundraising group of CPLA has held many fundraising activities on campus. The most well-known and popular activities would be our Flea Market. CPLA collects clothes, books and others from students and sell them all out with an extremely low price in order to avoid any unnecessary waste. In addition, Texas Hold’em Tournament is another popular activity. These activities have not only enriched our students’ extracurricular lives, but also raised funds for our annual summer project. This term, as always, CPLA will hold many interesting activities as well, hope all of you could join us together, to gather your own contribution to philanthropy!
