Summary
Incumbents in the Office Assistant series perform a range of basic office support activities, including answering phones and directing calls, greeting and directing visitors, answering questions and performing routine clerical, data entry, and/or word processing.
Reporting and Supervisory Responsibilities
This classification has no supervisory responsibilities.
Typical Functions
1. Answers telephones, takes messages, and provides general information; greets and directs visitors; and answers routine inquiries.
2. Performs a variety of routine typing assignments including drafting basic correspondence and data entry.
3. Opens and routes incoming mail; distributes to department staff.4. Copies and or duplicates materials as requested; may oversee day-to-day operation of copy
machine.5. Establishes, maintains, processes, and/or updates files, records, and/or other documents.6. May order, stock, and distribute office supplies.7. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.2. Ability to prepare and print routine correspondence and other basic written material.3. Word processing and data entry skills.4. Skilled in the operation of basic office equipment.5. Typing skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Aptitude is required.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
