Summary

Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone is the first book of the series written by J.K. Rowling

and it presents the way Harry discoered he was a wi!ard and started a new life.

"or ten years# he had lied with his muggle$non%wi!ard& uncle and aunt# ernon and Petunia

(ursley# because his parents were killed by oldemort# considered the most eil and powerful

dark wi!ard in history# and Professor (umbledore# Professor )c*onagall and Rubeus Hagrid#

placed him in the care of them.

There# he had a terrible life# being neglected# tormented and abused but his cousin# (udley.

Shortly before Harry's eleenth birthday# a series of letters addressed to him arried# but they

did not let him read them. +n order to get away of tem# ernon decided to go on a small island#

but they were found by Hagrid# who told Harry that the (ursleys hae kept him from finding out

that he was a wi!ard an he had been accepted o Hogwarts.

Hagrid and Harry went to (iagon ,lley# a magically%concealed shopping precinct in -ondon

where he bought the books and euipment needed for school# Hedwig# the owl and the wand

that suited him best which happened to be the twin of oldemort's. /The boy who suried/# as

he was known among the wi!ards found out that he had a beuest from his parents left on a

deposit at *ringotts 0i!arding 1ank.

Harry made friends with Ron 0easley the day they meet at King's 2ross railway station# where

from they took he Hogwarts 34press. (uring the ride the reddish boy told him about a robbery at

*ringotts and they meet their future friend# Hermione *ranger and future enemy# (raco )alfoy#accompanied by his sidekicks.

,t school# the first%years took turns putting on the 5Sorting Hat6 to find out in which residential

house they were about to lie. Harry was afraid of being assigned to the sinister Slytherin

house# but he# Ron# and Hermione ended up in the noble *ryffindor house.

Harry reali!ed that his Potions professor# Snape# did not like him# but he was assured by Hagrid

that he had no reason to worry about# because he was not disliked. (uring their first flying

lesson on broomsticks# the teacher had to took 7eille# an in8ured boy# to the hospital and they

were told to stay grounded while she was gone# but (raco made Harry break the rule because

he flew off with their mate's ball and he followed him. 0hen the Slytherin threw it in the air#

Harry speeded downwards and caught it spectacularly# all this in front of Professor

)c*onagall's window. Happily# Harry was not punished# but recommended for the *ryffindor

9uidditch team.

0hile Harry was waiting for )alfoy for their settled duel a midnight# he had to hide# otherwise he

would hae got in trouble# but he discoered a three%headed dog guarding a trapdoor in the

forbidden third floor corridor.

1ecause of a troll found in the building on Halloween# the students were sent to their bedrooms#

but Hermione was missing# so Harry and Ron had to find her and aware her# but unfortunately#

they locked the troll and Hermione in the girls' bathroom. They managed to defeat the creature

and Hermione told a lie to protect the boys from being punished.

(uring Harry's first 9uidditch match# Hermione obsered Snape muttering a curse while her

friend's broom was 8erking out of control# so she reali!ed that he was 8in4ing Harry's broom and

set the professor's clothes on fire and he regained the control of his broom and made a one to

remember match.

,fter Harry had receied his father's inisibility cloak on 2hristmas# he started e4ploring the

school at night and he discoered the )irror of 3rised# which displays the deepest desire of

whoeer looks in it so he was always coming back there to watch he and his parents together.

,fter holidays# the three friends discoered that the three%headed dog was guarding the

Sorcerer's Stone# which was capable of proiding eternal life and unlimited wealth to its owner

and belonged to 7icolas "lamel# (umbledore:s old partner# the stone being the ob8ect Hagrid

brought from *ringotts.

,fter a while# Hagrid won a dragon egg in a poker game# but it was illegal to own dragons# so

his young friends try to contact Ron's older brother# who was studying dragons# and gie it to

him# but they are caught and seerely punished. Part of their punishment was to follow Hagrid

into the forest and find the one who was killing unicorns lately and Harry was attacked by a

hooded man drinking the animal's blood# but he was rescued by a centaur who also told him

that oldemort was the one trying to steal the Sorcerer's Stone.

The kids sneaked off to the forbidden third%floor corridor again after they had decided that they

hae to find the stone before oldemort does# and faced lots of challenges in order to get closer

to it. ;ltimately# Harry met 9uirrell who told him he must die. The professor put harry in front of

the )irror of 3rised because he knew that harry would see himself with the stone in his pocket#

but the boy did not told him the truth# and he also felt the stone in his pocket. oldemort# who

was inhabiting 9uirrell:s body realised that Harry was lying and instructs him to kill the boy. 1y

contacting the little wi!ard# the professor burned and Harry passed out.

Harry woke up in the hospital and (umbledore told him that he was saed 8ust in time and that

"lamel and he decided to destroy the stone. ,t the end of the year banuet# *ryffindor

anticipated Slytherin and won the house cup# after (umbledore had gien them lots of last%

minute points because of their success and then# Harry returned to the (ursleys to spend his

summer there.
