How to Extend Basic Partition Safely There are 3 basic partitions on my Windows 7 computer, and now I have no space left in partition C (system partition), which causes me a lot of problems. Therefore, I shrank partition D to get 20GB unallocated space and then used it to extend system partition, only to find "Extend Volume" was grayed out. Then, I searched how to extend a basic partition on the internet, and I was suggested to do like this: Create a new partition with the 20GB unallocated space, and then copy all data on partition D to the newly created partition. At last, delete partition D and extend C with space of D. --Source from http://www.partitionwizard.com/resizepartition/disk-partition-software-extend-b asic-partition.html That’s so complicated. Why can’t I just extend a basic partition under this situation? I need to know if there’s a much simpler way or whether there is disk partition software which woks better than Windows Disk Management. As a matter of fact, under Windows built-in Disk Management program, the partition which needs extending must be RAW or formatted with NTFS. Moreover, users can only extend a partition with contiguous unallocated space after the partition they want to extend. Nevertheless, the function "Shrink Volume" can only make the unallocated spaced located after the source partition rather than the partition which needs extending. Therefore, extending a basic partition with Windows Disk Management under that situation is impossible. Luckily, there is disk partition software which can extend Windows partitions successfully no matter whether there is unallocated space on the basic disk. MiniTool Partition Wizard is such a program. How to Extend Basic Partition Safely

There are 3 basic partitions on my Windows 7 computer, and now I have no space left in

partition C (system partition), which causes me a lot of problems. Therefore, I shrank

partition D to get 20GB unallocated space and then used it to extend system partition, only

to find "Extend Volume" was grayed out. Then, I searched how to extend a basic

partition on the internet, and I was suggested to do like this:

Create a new partition with the 20GB unallocated space, and then copy all data on

partition D to the newly created partition. At last, delete partition D and extend C with

space of D.

That’s so complicated. Why can’t I just extend a basic partition under this situation? I need

to know if there’s a much simpler way or whether there is disk partition software which

woks better than Windows Disk Management.

As a matter of fact, under Windows built-in Disk Management program, the partition which

needs extending must be RAW or formatted with NTFS. Moreover, users can only extend

a partition with contiguous unallocated space after the partition they want to extend.

Nevertheless, the function "Shrink Volume" can only make the unallocated spaced located

after the source partition rather than the partition which needs extending. Therefore,

extending a basic partition with Windows Disk Management under that situation is

impossible.

Luckily, there is disk partition software which can extend Windows partitions successfully

no matter whether there is unallocated space on the basic disk. MiniTool Partition Wizard

is such a program. In the following content, we will show users how to extend a partition

by using this partitioning tool.

Extend Basic Partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard

1. Launch the disk partition software to open its main interface:

2. Select the basic partition which needs extending namely partition C and choose the

function "Extend Partition".

Page 3: How to extend basic partition safely

3. Take free space from an existing partition or from an unallocated space to extend the

basic partition (here, we take free space from partition D), and then drag sliding button to

decide how much free space to take. Next, click "OK" button to go back to the main

interface.

4. Click "Apply" button on toolbar to apply changes to Windows.

After application, we can say disk partition software helps extend a basic partition

successfully. Therefore, when the function "Extend Volume" of Windows does not work or

there is no such a function in Windows, try using MiniTool Partition Wizard, and it can help

enlarge a basic partition in simple operations and without data loss.
